So I was reading up on the two Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII games to come out, when something written about Versus XIII caught my eye.

Apart from the fact that Tetsuya Nomura contributes to the production of this game, there is another aspect that compares itself to Kingdom Hearts: It's combat system.

 

"Within recent interviews in Japanese video game magazines, director Tetsuya Nomura has stated that Versus XIII's gameplay will be a realistic derivation of Kingdom Hearts's battle system with some elements of a third-person shooter aspect. Nomura has also stated that the game will depart from the light and magical aesthetic of his previous directorial games (i.e. Kingdom Hearts) and opt for a darker, bleaker world that is intended to counter previous Final Fantasy installments."

 

My question is, will this blow Kingdom Hearts out of the water?

 

"As a testament towards his desire for realism, in the PlayStation Premier trailer, in contrast to previous Final Fantasy titles, Versus XIII had a greater display of graphic violence with an instance of blood."

 

I'd say that 9 of every 10 gamers have a shooting game/graphic game somewhere in their library. Combined with Final Fantasy and the real time RPG gameplay style of Kingdom Hearts, will this be the perfect game?

 

I'm really hoping they don't overhype this and leave Kingdom Hearts in the dark.

Who knows, I mean sure that Versus XIII will have similiar gameplay to that of Kingdom Hearts series and will have a story that's darker.It could be possible that versus could out shine Kingdom hearts. but then again we need Versus XIII to be a very good game in order for SE to start KHIII. And who knows, since KHIII is the most anticipated game that everyone is looking forward to, that might even surpass Versus XIII if it gets more popular. But still, FF has a way bigger audience than Kingdom Hearts does, so Versus XIII could possibly blow KH out of the water.

 

Also, just because Versus XIII will have similiar gameplay to that of Kingdom hearts doesn't mean that it might out shine KH series. Just look at FF XII, a lot of people thought that it will be even better at KH but it proved to be not all that great of a game. The story wasn't at it's best in that game as everyone expected. So it depends on how good the story is, and how the game play is as well.

 

But we will wait and see if that will happen in a few years to come.

Personally, I've always throught Versus should've been the flagship title in the FNC Compilation. From the little we've seen and heard about so far, I'm getting the impression that it'll be far more satisfying than XIII. But anyways, Nomura's taking what he's learned from the KH franchise and incorporating them into Versus, and what he can't include will go into future KH games. I wouldn't worry too much about it. FF is FF, and KH is KH. Everything else, KH125 already covered.

Wow, hope we get it so i can try it out, seems like it'll be one of the better games i'd ever play.

Honestly, I don't think it will outshine the series, but it might be better. To be honest, with the amount of time it's taking, I'm kinda hoping it's better. I've been looking forward to Versus for like ever!

Well, should I ever get a PlayStation 3, I will indeed get Final Fantasy Versus XIII, not only because it has great graphics and it's SO shiny, but because it's made me wait ______ (insert number there) years for Kingdom Hearts III! But I suppose if it has a similar battle system to the KH series - albeit more violent - then I should enjoy it. Because if I don't and all that time was wasted to make a stupid game... then... I'm gonna END Nomura... >

with all due respect to KH fans, I think that versus13 has the patental to outshine Kingdom Hearts just because the Final Fantasy series has been around longer then the KH series. But I hope that it dose not happend because personally I love the Kingdom Hearts games & im so going crazy to play KH3 sometime in the future. but I must agree with KingdomHearts12 about FFXII, im not so much of a FF fan becase RPG games like FF give me a hard time but FFXII did look like it was going to be a good game based on the trailer, however the game did not live up to the trailer, so we will have to wait untill versus13 comes out before we make jugdements. If versus13's gameplay is like the KH series or simmilar & has a good stroy then I might accually purchase it. I confess I may not be a big FF fan but I like the games.

Well, actually... The second game in the... whatever it's called XIII, FF Agito XIII, Is said to have similar gameplay mechanics to CC. This might be quite a good series o.o

Yeah, Agito XIII is said to have similiar gameplay to CC. And besides, by the time CC was out there wasn't really too big of an audience on KH.

Sure Versus may have all these shiny features, BUT WILL IT WORK?

Versus is a one-shot game, KH is a series.

 

Versus will be aimed at older teen/adult males, KH is aimed at any age group or gender, although teenagers would be it's main age aim.

 

Sure Versus may play like KH, but it won't be KH.

 

When Nomura FINALLY does KH III, it will be insane. 'Nuff said

I have no idea, it just looked a bit hardcore-action GRRRR BLOOD sorta manly thing.

I'm not trying to say it's not aimed at girls at all, because FF is aimed at both genders, it's just I'd associate what I've seen with a MAIN audience of Males.

Lol, yes. It is kind of sexist thinking that violence-ridden shoot n' slash action games are for guys only. I think there's a statistic up somewhere that girl gamers are slowly outnumbering guy gamers, which is funny to me

Anyway, I personally think that most jrpg games reel in pervy girls with impossibly attractive guys, then make the gameplay appeal to everyone else.

It's not exactly untrue. Games are generally aimed towards men simply because they currently hold a lot of the market. People are still usually shocked when a girl plays 'real' games (Despite it being very common, at least where I live)

But yeah, games tend to have scantily clad women, explosions, and some sort of intense combat to appeal to the (stereo)typical man.
