I'm sure you've met one of them. There are people who call themselves a certain religion (Christian, Catholic, ect.), but they don't do anything to show it. They don't go to church, read the Bible, Quaran, Torah, or whatever they use, and their actions speak louder than the words. It's pretty clear that they either don't believe in whoever their religion praises, or that they just don't want to prove that they do.

 

What do you think when people do this? Do you do this?

 

I get sort of angry when I see things like that. If you truly believed in God, why are you doing some of the things you are? Why are you acting the way you do and saying the things you do, if you truly believed in Him?

 

I will admit sometimes I do let things slip. I don't mention to my friends when they ask me to have a sleep-over Saturday night that I can't because I'm going to church tomorrow. Sometimes I think I'm a little less steadfast in my Christianity, because not one person in my family is Christian, and they think it's just silly. I do try my best, though. No one is perfect.

 

I honestly think it's quite annoying when people do this all the time, though. Why are they pretending if they don't care?

Lol I dont think it's such a big deal. I dont go to church but I'm still catholic. Okay, I read the Bible once, I know it, I dont need someone reading it to me. When I feel I've done something horribly terrrible, I go do a communion or confess etc. Still, it doesnt mean I dont believe in him. I'm not a hardcore Catholic.

 

There are different ways of expressing yourself in a religion group than reading a book, gathering at an alter, or other things. If you don't, that doesnt mean you're a "fake" believer.

People can believe in him and not have to do anything to show it. Maybe they are too shy to go to church? Maybe they don't like reading? Doesn't mean they can't believe.

 

I can't say any reasons why I do or don't since I don't have a religion. But still. Humans are humans. They wouldn't be faking what they believe in.

I see what you mean, I know people that say there christian or whatever and they don't ever go to church or read the bible or anything, and say they believe what they believe, and still say they are part of that religion, It does sometimes bother me if someone says there a certain religion and they don't do anything for it and then believe there own thing, But meh I guess thats the way people are you can't make them.

I think she means those people parading around saying they're a Christian or whatever all proudly, and then not giving a shit about what they do .

There's a difference between people like that and people who go to church because of their family yet don't believe in it or have other reasons. I don't agree with the Catholic church for the most part but I still have to go. Ask me what I believe in I'll either say I'm Catholic or that I just believe in God.

But I think those "Fake" believers are those people who also go around saying "Oh you shouldn't do that, it's a sin!" just because they're a Christian, yet do the same thing.

I agree with Koko, for the most part...there are a lot of things in Christianity that I really don't believe in (like that anyone who doesn't agree 100% with whatever the Bible says is going to Hell), but I have to go because of my family.

 

But I do know a lot of people like the one's you're talking about; there are a lot in my town, for some reason. ._.' They tell people what they should believe in and what they should do, but then don't do it themselves. Annoys the shit out of me. =A=

I don't consider myself religious, but my mom wanted everyone to be catholic.

So I was, hum I forgot the word, you know when the priest throws holy water at you when you're a baby? yeah that.

 

But no, I am not religious, I don't consider myself to be catholic, but when people ask, I always say I am, because it normally doesn't make people feel much confortable with people without religion.

Well, I kinda do this in a way......Like, when people ask me what my religion is, I'll say Christian, but in actuality I'm not religious at all, if my friends were to ask, I'd say non-religious, because they wouldn't get all awkward and tense if I were to say that, as my friends don't care about religion (e.g. 1 is Christian, 1 is Catholic, some are non-religious) But if it's a random person, I'd just say Christian to avoid the annoying tension that makes me feel awkward..... So yeah, I don't know if that would be considered "fake", as I only say it if it's someone random that I think would get tense, make of that what you will (that isn't what you consider "fake" is it?)

Yeah, that's fine. : D I was just explaining you're supposed to mention a your opinion on it, but you can also add in your personal story.

 

I agree with a lot of that. It's hard sometimes to admit what you believe or what you don't. Though that is in a way what I am referring to by "fake believers". xDD

Yes.

Catholics believe in the pope or priest or.. yeah, one of those. I forget exactly which, sorry. They also believe in the Virgin Mary.

 

Christians believe that Mary was important, but she is not important in the way Catholics believe. Christians also don't think a pope or priest has any power.

 

They're in most ways basically the same, though.

Did you guys know I was once called a sinner for playing Kingdom Hearts? I know a fake believer. He said he was a Christian but I know he isn't. Here's why; he finds it funny to draw a cross inside a pentagram, he believes God and the devil are one and the same, he hates it when people say he isn't reading the Bible right when he repeats reason 2, and he goes around believing he's perfect and everyone else is a sinner. I find people like him really stupid
