Chapter 1

The news was all the same recently. Mysterious disappearances, and strange monsters that looked almost human appearing in those same places. Normally, I would roll my eyes and think this was a hoax.

 

But that would be if it weren't for the fact that my sister, Kairi, had gone missing. The monster that had appeared there looked like a human with fur covering its arms and legs, cowered over in a way that it stood almost like a dog, with the ears, eyes, and tail also of a wolf. I hadn't been there when she disappeared, but apparently she had been in a car accident shortly before, and the person who crashed into her saw the creature.

 

Now that Kairi was gone, however, her school stalker/ boyfriend-wanna-be, Seifer, had turned his attention to me.

 

"Come one, Namine. All I'm asking is one date!"

 

I glared at him. "Only in your dreams!"

 

"Aww, please, Nam?"

 

"No! Now go away!"

 

Seifer was about to press the issue further, when a teacher called him over. He reluctantly walked away from my desk, leaving me to heave a sigh of relief. Seifer was nothing but trouble. If only I knew how much trouble he was.

Chapter 2

When school ended that day, I chose to walk home rather than take the bus, since I wanted to stop by a small art shop in town that was walking distance from the school. I could call Tifa to pick me up later. She wouldn't mind, since her bar was close to the shop.

 

On my way to the store, however, I felt someone's gaze boring into the back of my neck. I whirled around to see who it was, only to catch a glimpse of something silver darting behind a tree.

 

"H-hello?" I called tentatively. "Is someone there?"

 

There was no response. I slowly turned and began to walk again, this time a little faster. Now I heard something in the forest that lined the sidewalk. I froze for an instant, then began to run. I didn't care if I overshot the art shop. I just wanted to get away from whoever- or whatever- that was.

 

Then I bumped into something. Something human. I squeaked in surprise, then looked up at who it was. "Seifer!"

 

He smirked. "Miss me?"

 

I backed away from him. "Were you following me?"

 

He shrugged. "Maybe I was, maybe I wasn't. Either way..." As he spoke, a petite girl with light purple hair and red eyes, as well as a tough looking guy with tan skin and black hair came out of a nearby alley, making me realize I had already reached the town. "...I have you right where I want you." Seifer finished.

 

I then realized that I should have taken the bus. But now, it was too late to have any regrets.
