April 16, 201114 yr I think it's because nomura doesn't want to release too much actual game material in the launch trailer. Pretty much all the trailer looked beta. In the real thing Riku will have the way to dawn, because he won't participate in the mom with a sword, he has to use his keyblade. I hear a lot of people stating that they are in a dream of sorts because of the mark of mastery, but the thing is that that will only be a small portion of the game and the title being dream drop distance, I would be willing to bet much more of the game will take place with influence of that dream theme than just the exam. That being said, I doubt the beta trailer's contents isn't that far off of how the game will be (with the exception of the hundreds of soras raining down lol).
April 16, 201114 yr Knowing Riku's could be in a dreaming stage his Soul Eater could evolve into Way to Dawn. But like Mog said it could be because Nomura doesn't want to reveal too much.

April 17, 201114 yr tutti frutti. One of my guesses is that Nomura is probably using the Soul Eater as a based for Riku's weapon for testing the game out, probably since that is may take more time to make the design for the Way to Dawn, though I have nothing to back this up. Another guess is that it may seem off to see Riku in his old attire, but wielding the Way to Dawn. (But this guess is just me.) Another reason may be that Riku could be given the ability to weild both weapons at will, I guess it would be similar to how Mickey is able to weild both Star Seeker and Kingdom Key D as he sees fit. But only time will tell.
