Why is Radiant Garden dark when Terranort is there and why is it so isolated? I know that it is done for dramatic effect but I have never seen Radiant Garden not be surrounded by light, it is even called the city of light save for the time when Malificent took it over?

Reading too much into it. Why in Twilight Town no one notices when Roxas faces a huge Xion that's the height of a building in 358/2 days? Radiant Garden was dark because a dark presence came and a epic battle was going to happen. Birth by Sleep is 10 years before KH1. In KH1, Leon says Maleficent took over the worlds 9 years ago.

Just a hunch, but... it was night time. Just like night happens on Destiny Islands. No matter how bright a place is, time of day still changes.

Namine and DiZ can't stop time. They just stoped the virtual Twilight Town, as they had control over it. They can't do it anywhere else. It's like playing a game and pushing the pause button.

Really? I thought it was because it was nightfall. If you noticed carefully, the fountains are off which made me confirm my speculation that it was nighttime.
