It's sad when they have absolutely NO clue what you're talking about when you mention good old movies or music.

Examples: The beatles, The monkees, Abba, Enya (Oh, how I LOVE HER MUSIC.), Rick Astley, Herb Alpert, etc.

You may add to the list if you wish.

i'm the only person in my geography class that knows who Kurt Cobain is. this saddens me.

Tell me about it. Kids have no class these days.

Ikr. A lot of them don't even know about meatloaf or acdc.

I guess I have no class, I'm one of those people who don't appreciate most of the oldies, I don't despise them, there are some that I actually love, but really get on my nerves. Also, the people who used to like those kinds of things years ago liked the modern style of their times, so the generations are just evolving, if everyone just appreciated the "old" culture, then the new wouldn't exist and we'd live in a boresome world that would always be the same (I know that cause its always the same in my life and I completly hate it, I guess that's the reason that motivated me to search for the new instead of keeping the old).

Btw Koko, who's Kurt Cobain? x-x.

Kurt Cobain is the lead singer of Nirvana.

It's not that everyone should stay in the oldies, but honestly, just compare lyrics from today and lyrics that John Lenon wrote.

The decline in quality is so painfully obvious.

I agree with what Giginha said. If we stay in the past than the future is just going to be boring. People have to move on and stop living in the past. Soon life is going to hit them in the head with a brick and then what will they do? Sing a old John Lenon song?

no, they're not gonna rely on music to fix their problems obviously.

duh.

And it's not 'an old John Lenon song' it's called 'a classic Beatles song'

Sorry Koko, I read Kaiso instead of Koko x.x I should kill myself now. Bye!

Back on topic, it depends on the lyrics you say, I can't say that ALL the songs on those days were wonderful, beautiful and marvellous, there were plenty of trash as well, I guess that the only thing that's changed is who listens to each kind of music and what most people like.

(Well, music doesn't actually have anything to do with the way we solve our problems, I was just mentioning about culture, not lifestyle)

yeah I understand what youre saying xD<3 I was replying to the post above me.

Sure, there was trash back then to. But think about it, the 70s, 80s, and etc, had legends like The Beatles, Nirvana, KISS, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and so many more who actually wrote their own songs and had talent.

Who do we have? Ke$ha singing about glitter. Rappers, rapping about drugs and sex.

Well, it depends on which musics you're focusing on, I won't search for any of the ones I have in my MP4(since everyone knows that my memory is wonderful I just forget all the names x.x), also, I love Nirvana's musics, but I don't know much about the band itself, most singers have such great creativity that they copy other's musics, but I found some oldies like that too so, I guess there's no way we can compare the "oldies" with our "modern" since they are supposed to be completly different, being that each one is a reflex of their own time.

I'll admit in the past couple of years rap music has been stupid. But what do you have against rap? I guess some people just aren't cool :D.
I don't have anything against rap, just what they rap about is what gives me a problem. I don't want to be listening to some guy talk about how he banged this girl after getting high.

How about Cartoonnetwork? Kids these days know nothing about the greatness it once was.

Yeah I miss the CartoonNetwork from the past. It used to be so awesome. Even though the shows were quite idiotic.

I know for a fact that 4th graders don't know who Pikachu is. It's sad.

I think the cartoons they show now are stupider than what they did before. Looney Toons was awesome, Adventure Time has nothing on that.

4th graders do know who Pikachu is. Where are you getting your random facts from?
well here they dont lol. I'm not saying theyre hardcore facts, but where i live, elementary kids don't know who Pikachu, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tom and Jerry, or who any of those characters are

Well then those kids must not be learning anything. Are they slacking off or something? You can't beat the classics :D.

I think I'm the only one in my school who knows who Handel is. I'm also one of the 10 kids who know who Frank Sinatra is. My school has 1000 people in it by it.

These days, the most popular instrument is auto-tune and the most notable dance is the "get everyone in a cluster and jump up and down while humping every man woman and child. within 3 inches of you"

A few people in my class don't know things from NOW A DAYS, like who katy Perry is.

A boy in my class doesn't know the Beatles, and even asked us if they were Rock or Pop, and what is the difference from Rock to Pop. even the TEACHER facepalmed.

My teacher did the same thing when that happened.

4th graders not knowing Pikachu? I can't see that, but if they don't know how pokemon started....YES. lol

Frank Sinatra is one of my favorite singers ever. As for cartoonnetwork, is sucks harder than space now. I mean regular show?

i have quite an old taste when it comes to alot of stuff.

i can name tonnes of 70s, 80s, and 90s rock bands.

i watch quite alot of classic movies (probably only from the late 70s onwards mostly)

Some of younger kids find looney tunes boing and don't know what batman:the amianted series or Back to the future is.Music: 30's to 70's

Movies 40's to 90's or present
