Pixar Announces Two New Movies, Including Dinosaur Project

Posted

article from ign

Pixar has taken some flack of late for delving into several sequels close together, with Toy Story 3 and Cars 2 opening back-to-back and Monsters University set for 2013 – though it should be noted next year's Pixar release, Brave, is completely original.

However, at Disney's D23 Expo today, John Lasseter announced the two Pixar films set to follow Monsters University, and revealed they are both original concepts.

The first project is produced by John Walker and will be the feature directorial debut of Bob Peterson, who wrote Up and Finding Nemo. The duo announced the project will be focused on dinosaurs and humorously revealed a logo for The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs. They promised to have an actual title soon, but in the meantime explained the film follows a "What if?" scenario in which the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs missed the Earth – and thus dinosaurs never went extinct. While there were no more specifics given, including what era the film takes place in, a piece of production art showed what looked to be a the silhouette of a human boy riding a dinosaurs - hinting at a story about a world where humans and dinosaurs co-exist. Coming from Pixar, I'm guessing this will be a much more thoughtful, emotional take on this type of story than The Flintstones.

The second project will be directed by Pete Doctor (Up, Monster's Inc.) and what he said about the concept was fairly esoteric – noting it would take viewers "inside your mind," revealing why we can't get things out of our head, why we forget certain things and more. This project also doesn't have a title yet – hence the logo we saw for The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind.

The Pixar dinosaur movie is set for Holiday 2013 and the Mind project is coming summer 2014.

Oh, my nephew will enjoy the dinosaur movie. He has so many dinosaur toys. If its 2013 then maybe that should be the first movie he sees in a theater. I can't wait to see what Pixar is bringing us next x3

aww u so lucky i missed that event, thanks for the post!

I'm a bit nervous about the dinosaur movie. Several movies from the 80s and 90s had the same premise and erm sucked horribly.

Pixar should be able to pull it off though.

Several movies from the 80's and 90's weren't made by Pixar either.

That was good, but I was referring to the Super Mario Brothers movie and that one with Whoopie Goldberg

Land before time was well, before time. It's a Dinosaur movie and is a great one.

I'm talking about movies that had the whole "Dinosaurs never went extinct" thing going on.

Probably, Pixar has a good track record. I have faith in them but I am a bit nervous.
