So when Terra arrives at the Enchanted Dominion and is in Aurora's room, Maleficent, as soon as she gets her hands on the heart, says something like "he said this would happen" (don't remember the exact words).

 

My question is: why would Xehanort tell her about the princesses of heart? What's in it for him? and was it even him? I'm confoosed.

Pretty sure it's because he agreed to help her if she tried to awaken the Darkness within Terra.

Maybe he planned to use her to collect the Princesses of Heart for him. Actually, that's kind of what happen. Maleficent collected them, was defeated by Sora and then Ansem (basically Master Xehanort' Heartless) stepped in and took control.

 

Also, it could be a part of all the 'seeds' Xehanort claimed to have spread.

So then there wouldn't be "the" 7 princesses of light, cuz i'm assuming Kairi wouldn't be one of them. Maybe he counted Ven, cuz even though he obviously isn't a princess, his heart is pure light.
