Explanation of the expensive Sony memory card:

Muneki Shima, the head of Sony Division 2 Software Development, explained that Vita’s use of proprietary memory cards is to “ensure that all gamers are guaranteed the same performance since they can set the read/write speeds of the cards as opposed to letting users get their own microSD cards and ruining their gaming experience when they unknowingly pick up a lower speed card just because it was cheaper,” the post says.

The other reason is to help prevent piracy, since “the cards can’t be used as ‘mass storage’ on computers” and “will only sync with a proprietary Sony management program which will be mandatory for all Vita users.”

Game prices:

Also it was stated that the retail price of Vita games will be kept at 40$!

And buying Vita games on PSN will be 40% cheaper than the retail price which means downloading Vita games per PSN will cost ONLY 24$!!!!

That makes the abnormal Sony memory card prices not such a hard hit.

Account news:

The Vita will only allow 1 account. That means that you can't have multiple accounts to have access to multiple PSN regions and be able to get content which isn't available in your region.

So does that mean they're doing hard-copy games? I thought it was all digital. They're changing so much crap...

Their reasoning is a pretty lame excuse. They could have made their own cards, and still allowed people to use other ones, if they are willing to save a few bucks to potentially 'ruin' their gaming experience.

And the thing about the Vita online prices... it's very obvious they want to encourage online distribution, good on them, but don't you see WHY they are encouraging it? Because if you download all of your games, you're going to need memory cards. Expensive memory cards.

I want to be excited fro the Vita, but Sony just makes it so hard. Though I'll probably get one eventually, most likely once 3rd party memory cards come out.

Are you serious? Why shouldn't they offer hard-copy games? Buying hard-copy games is still more common and popular than downloading games.

Also just downloading them would eat your memory cards up in no time!

I'm not planning on getting a Vita, at least not for a few years, but all the memory card and retail vs downloadable game stuff will be really confusing! If you go with the downloadable ones, you save money when you buy them, but then not only do you not have a physical copy of the game, you have to pay extra for memory cards. Which one is cheaper?!

So does that mean they're doing hard-copy games? I thought it was all digital. They're changing so much crap...

They were always panning on having hard copies. Not everybody has a stable internet connection. They have said they would have cartridge based games since the start.

We all know that all of these procedures have the main purpose to make more profit.

Yeah I think it is sad that Sony is making the same mistake as with the PS3. Too late and way too overpriced to compete with the 3DS financially.

I think 3rd party memory cards will be available shortly after the Vita launch so no problem.

Sucks to be you.

Then apparently I've been receiving special, innacurate news from Sony from the beginning.

Thanks, Sony!

Gee I wonder why...

I feel like Im the only one suprised about the hard copy. I thought it was a download only system.

Why the firetruck would one make a handheld console without a cartridge system? That would be the stupidest thing to do!

I found out all of this last month.

I know what I read last month. You don't need IGN and other sites to find things out early.

I shall not be trolled.

This isn't an explanation of why they are so expensive. This is explaining why they made Vita memory cards instead of using SDHC. They still aren't giving us a valid reason why they are jacking up the price so high.

Because they're 'fast'

Because they're 'fast'

Because 'fast' cards don't exist unless Sony makes them
