PS Vita sells 321,000 units in first 2 days in Japan

Posted

The PS Vita launched in Japan on Saturday and now it appears that the next generation portable game console from Sony has started its life with sales of 321,000 units in its first two days. Reuters reports that those sales numbers come from third party research firm Enterbrain rather than directly from Sony.

If those sales numbers are true, it also means that the PS Vita didn't sell as many consoles as Nintendo's 3DS, which sold 371,000 units in its first two days in Japan earlier in 2011. While the 3DS started strong, a lack of popular games combined with a high price tag caused sales to stall. Nintendo was forced to slash the price of the 3DS worldwide in August in order to boost. Sony's first portable game console, the PSP, sold 166,000 units on its first day of sales back in 2004. So far the PSP has sold 73 million units.

The PS Vita's Japanese launch was not 100 percent smooth. Some users complained that the console they purchased had an unresponsive touch screen and software issues. Some users claimed that the entire console froze and stopped working. Sony has issued both an apology and as well as a firmware fix for the PS Vita. The console makes its debut in US and Europe in mid-February 2012.

YEA! SCREW YOU VITA! xD

Looking forward to the price slash for the PSV xD

If they cut the price and officially announce BBS v2 it's sold. Until then the technical issues will be solved too.

The only way that I'll buy a Vita at this point is if BbS V2 is a real game and out only on the Vita, other than that, I'm not getting one.

You know, there ARE other great games besides KH you know.Just because KH isn't on the system doesn't mean the sytem isn't interesting. There are plenty of other great game series to play.

Yeah, I know that. I'm a fan of most of them. But no game on the Vita currently is interesting to me

Pretty good, I think. I hope the 3DS and Vita continue to do well and show those dang smart phones their place.

Probably won't get a Vita though, Sony's exclusives don't really interest me, and the memory card prices a huge turn off.

If BbSV2 is announced, then next christmas, I'll get one :)

Other than that, still not sure if I'll get it or not.

I will get PSV but most likely not at launch and properly later in 2012 but PSV has tons great games on it and in my opinion most appeal to me than 3ds.I wonder if release it so close to holiday affected the sales.

This is why I always buy consoles and handhelds a year later.

Waste of money. I hear someone got a stained screen.

Enterbrain?

What does RPGMaker have to do with this.
