Do you all remember when Aqua met Kairi and Aqua said this line right when Kairi's grandma came:

“Kairi, about that light--”? Personally, i think that Aqua was either gonna tell kairi about the keyblade or the inheritance ceremony that just happened when kairi was being chased by Unversed. What do you all think?

It's possible, but I think Aqua didn't see Kairi hold the handle of her Keyblade. I think only Terra was aware of his Ceremony.

She was talking about the magic spell she put on her.

I think that's it.

No. Because Aqua put the spell on kairi AFTER she said this line. Watch the scene again.

How could Aqua not see kairi's hand? She was looking right at her.

She was in what we call her "Battle Stance," she was looking at the monsters and worried about protecting the girl that she didn;t notice she has done the ritual. She probably only felt Kairi's hand.

Hmm...maybe. But what Aqua7KH said makes sense, too.

To me it looked like Aqua's full attention was on Kairi as she was holding the Keyblade, right before her attention was turned to the Unversed. Also, she said, "I can feel the light." It might've been radiating through Kairi's grasp on the Keyblade. So I think Aqua was aware that Kairi was holding it. But she may or may not have been aware of whether the Keyblade accepted Kairi as a wielder.

Well, she might've been saying that to start to ask for Kairi's permission to cast a spell on her (because the spell was about Kairi's light guiding her to someone else's), but when she saw that Kairi's grandma had come for her and she had to leave, Aqua just went for it.

She felt the light in the area, kinda like how Riku can "smell" the darkness, even though nobody was there.

When kairi ran over to Aqua she put her hand onto Aqua's keyblade and Aqua looked at her. i'm betting that she saw kairi's hand, but like you said, Aqua was probably more concerned about the Unversed at the time.

Yeah that's where I'm getting too, she was too worried about her safety.

i still think that Aqua was about to tell kairi about the keyblade or the ceremony before kairi's grandma interrupted.

Yeah, she probably thought you need to hold out the keyblade in order to pass the ability.

Yeah but what she didn't know was the ability was already passed onto kairi.

She probably didn't remember in the heat of the moment.

Its not even confirmed that Kairi is a keyblade wielder yet anyway.

Nomura said that she is a wielder. Here's the proof:

So the letter Sora receives in the ending has to do with the Mark of Mastery?

Nomura: Well how about that. Incidentally even though kairi can use a keyblade she won't be a testing candidate.

Kairi receiving the power from Aqua was a mistake.. I'm almost sure Nomura said that in an interview...

if i remember correctly Nomura said that it was an accident not a mistake. But bottom line accident or not kairi's a keyblade wielder and she got the power from Aqua.

If you could find that interview it would be great ^^. And yes of course, but she still sucks as a wielder as of now.

Here you go:

#1:

Kingdom Hearts BbS Ultimania "The Keyblade Inheritance Ceremony is performed with a Keyblade Master touches someone using a Keyblade. When Kairi was running away from the Unversed in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep she grabbed Aqua's Keyblade, which performed the ceremony. That is why she is able to use a Keyblade in Kingdom Hearts II to help Sora".

#2:

After living on Destiny Islands for 11 years she’s most likely a decent fighter and judging on how she went straight into fighting the Heartless in the World That Never Was she seems like a natural fighter too. So the more she uses her Keyblade the better and more skilled she’ll get.

Kairi is a Keyblade wielder, but not a candidate for the Mark of Mastery exam. She received the Ability to wield the Keyblade by accident from Aqua.

Yes! Thank you!

Yes! Thank you!

To go a little further, she unintentionally received the Keyblade from Aqua. Aqua never meant for it to happen, nor did Kairi, it was a total unintentional incident.

tutti frutti. I would have to agree with BondlessHero on this one. In short, Kairi was in danger and Aqua, along with Mickey, jumped in to save her. In the heat of the moment, I didn't think that Aqua would have noticed that Kairi had touched her Keyblade at the time, which did unintentionally give Kairi the ability to wield the Keyblade. Even though Kairi is a wielder, without a Keyblade as of now, she could become better if she had one on top of having experience to fight.
