Next Smash bros may take 4 years?

Posted

Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai has reiterated to fans that the next Smash Brosgame which is due out on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U will take a while, but fans patience will be rewarded. Sakurai has always stated that the game is very early is development andmentioned earlier that there had been ‘no progress’ on the highly anticipated game.

“I can’t really say anything until things settle down with Kid Icarus,” Sakurai told Kid Icarus… And a lot of it will depend on the team that I end up assembling for Smash Bros. It may take a while, but I think your patience will be rewarded.”

So in other words: Don’t expect Smash Bros to be shown off at all this year, and definitely don’t expect it to be released. At best, I think we’ll see a sneak peak at E3 2013, but we have been told the development of this game may take upward of four years, so there’s a long while until we’re going to get our hands on it.

So, what are your thoughts about this?

I doubt it will take four years. Probably 2, but I think he just wanted to give the fans food for thought.

LOL @kingdomhearts125,

I was just gonna make a thread about that...

xD

As long as it turns out great, I don't care how long I should wait. :D

I don't care how long it'll take. I really like the idea of it being on 3DS.

I forgot they were making a new one.

Obviously, there's no rush for me. The more time they take, the better it should be. I just want Zero Suit Samus' sexy back for the sequel.

2 years is pretty short for a game like Smash Bros. I mean, Brawl had something like half a years worth of delays, and ultimately took over 3 years to make.

And Sakurai is just getting crazier and crazier

I know it will take a while, but I also know the game will be great no matter how long it takes!

Its all dependent on what people he gets.

I'd say it depends more on if Nintendo is smart enough to take the reigns away from Sakurai.

I mean, the guy was complaining about how difficult it was to come up with more than 35 characters for Brawl, when he has ALL NINTENDO FRANCHISES EVER to choose from.

I mean, Dissidia managed 22 characters based solely on the protagonist and antagonist of the 12 main games, the last two of which only got one of the above.

If it's worth the wait, I'll buy it.

I expect Pokemon Trainer Red and Gold, Zororak, and throw in Kumatora or Paula.

He craves perfection and that includes character choices. Hopefully we will see more than 35 this time, but Im pretty sure he had his reasons for limiting to 35.

His reasoning is that it's hard to think up more characters. It has nothing to do with 'perfection' which any self-respecting game spokesperson should know is impossible.

He is a perfectionist actually. I dont think he literally doesnt know all the characters, but he doesnt know which characters would be best.

In an interview he specifically said he found it difficult to think up any other characters.

As I stated he knows the characters, but not which ones would fit the game

That's silly. You don't 'fit' in a Smash Bros game.

If you say so.
