Okay so. I been wanting to draw anime for a long time but I have NO idea HOW! I SUCK at drawing.

So I wanted to know. If you guys have any good tips on how to draw anime and people?

Or any videos that show you have to draw them. Sorry if this not go here.

I usually start with the face/eyes. It's easier to scale them afterwards.

It's best not to just look at anime for refrences; just spend time looking at anatomy books and what-not. It helped me out ALOT, holy crap. It's the only good thing that came outta college. But then again, I could've done that on my own for cheaper. :'c

Don't use anime as references, ever.

Start off with a bit of more realistic things and then work on building your own style.

Practice individual things like eyes and mouths and noses and then facial expressions and then heads and hair and then bodies and clothes and hands, arms, legs, feet, etc.

Practice lots and lots.

^ Exactly. Know the basic structure of the human body; how far apart should the eyes be? What muscles go where, the length of arms, legs, etc. Once you have a good feel for how the body is supposed to be drawn, you can do whatever you want with it and start forming your own style. You just gotta start with reality. ;D

Mm try looking at the picture while drawing without looking at the drawing paper

practicing drawing your shapes. My animation teacher made us draw circles, triangles, and squares (like 2 rows of each) as a warm up you know to get use to it, so that helps. Also my art teacher, when i was younger, always told us, while drawing, even if it first it may look horrible to just keep going until you finish because it could turn out even better then you wanted it. So when i draw i just start of with the head you know the circle and then from their i do the contour of the head. (but ya just have fun with it http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/happy.png)

If you wanna get good at anime OBSERVE!!! When you watch anime look at how they draw the faces when their sad, angry, happy etc... Also manga is better to help LOOK at the image!! Remember, all anime is very similar in art styles (usually it`s just a matter of proportion like the eyes and hair etc..) But anime can be hard, trust me I know!!! The smallest details can mess up the entire theme of the drawing!!! Also if you wanna draw good in general, don`t be biased to one genre!!! I've drawn live portraits!!! Steve Jobs, The Live Action Death Note films!!! And again practice makes perfect!!! grab a piece of notebook paper and draw literately anything!!! Draw a tree, a phone, a computer and those anime eyes, or that one anime head that you cant get right!!! Draw anything and everything!! Look at my deviant art if you wanna see some stuffs I worked on (and yes i`m 12)...

Best to use shapes such as circles, triangles and etc.... the build up a warm up and get some idea of what shapes of the drawing you want. Looking up human features is a good thing. Use a person who is willing to pose for you or try using yourself to get certain features of the human body you may want. Looking up human anatomy helps a lot.

Another thing and it's pretty damn obvious is practice, work on it as much as you can if you can only work on it for a few minutes or w/e then do that and just keep going at your own pace.

Obverse your surrounds, there are a lot of things you can get for reference.

Look at tutorials, there are some pretty good ones online.

Keep your work if you can, it helps to see your mistakes from past drawings.

There are other things you want to learn too, adding to the above. Pay attention to lighting, in the world around you and in photographs. Try learning up on the color theory as that's really important when figuring out interesting lights and shadows. Think about the texture of things and how you could replicate that texture. Like others have said, don't just start copying anime. The great thing about anime is that it is a cartoon style that is closest to representing life. Other cartoon styles are more dynamic and exaggerated. So there is a lot you can do without going to anime first, and once you do start drawing anime, you'll have a style of your own.

PRACTICE!

try looking at sites like posemaniacs and just sketch out a couple figures every day. you'll get a grasp on anatomy and bodies work. study proportions and use those to scale different parts of your drawings.

also, definitely don't use those "how to draw manga" books (or do what my ex-boyfriend does and copy screenshots from anime). 98% of the time they're really bad and will totally screw you over when you want to try and do something realistic.
