EVA

PROLOGUE:

(A large castle sits in the distance. The remnants of a once beautiful city sit at the foot of the castle. A large group of undead and people, who are still alive, are ravaging the city, killing off the remaining citizens. A group of the undead breaks off from the city rushing into the distance. They are rushing toward a lone woman. She appears to be in her late 30s, early 40s. This woman has short blonde hair, glistening silver armor, and a thin scar on her left cheek. She appears to be war-torn and depressed. She clutches the cross necklace, embracing her neck. She tugs on it, ripping the necklace. Her hand glows with a white light and the cross expands in size. She lowers her hand and a blade extends out of one end of the cross. She glares at the oncoming group of undead. She extends her free hand and releases a flurry of ice. The group becomes encased in ice. She rushes at them and cuts them down, as they are powerless to stop her. Many of the other monsters in the city see her coming and decide to greet her. She doesn’t slow down, ready to end this. She cuts through a few of the first monsters and then starts waving her hand around and mumbling under her breath. A lightning bolt strikes down, paralyzing a large chunk of the army. She continues on, shredding the undead, mercilessly. She appears to have the upper hand for a while, but then their numbers begin to overwhelm her. Undead monsters rise from the group, adding to her problems. One of the undead monsters clubs her in the face, knocking her to the ground. She quickly looks up to see that they’ve surrounded her. But, a flurry of arrows tears through each of their skulls. Suddenly, the woman is scooped up off the ground by a large heavy-set man.)

Woman: Matt! You showed up!

(The woman wraps her arms around his neck, as tears pour down her cheeks.)

Matt: Yeah I did! You should’ve never come here by yourself!

(Flurries of arrows continue to spray down on the undead around them. The woman stops hugging him and he sets her down.)

Woman: I had no other choice, you guys wouldn’t help me!

Matt: Then you shouldn’t have come at all!

Woman: And just let them win, after everything they’ve done! No thanks.

(She turns and picks up her cross/sword. An arrow soars past her head and into the skull of an undead, running up behind her.)

Woman: I can see that Rusty’s here.

(Rusty waves at them, from atop the nearby cliff. He’s a thin, tall guy, with a bow and arrow and a deadly aim.)

Matt: We were worried about you. It seems that we had a right to be.

Woman: Thanks for your help, but it would’ve been nice to know that I had it in the first place.

Matt: I’m sorry. But, this is a big job for just the three of us. Things ain’t what they use to be. What makes you think you can take this guy down, if even HE couldn't?

Woman: …I’m not sure that I can. But, I have to. If I don’t do it now, he’s only going to get stronger.

(She rushes into the city, prepared to face the undead army.)

Matt: Dammit, this is no time to be stubborn!

(Matt rushes after her, helping her take down the undead army. Between the two of them, they make it look like a piece of cake. She slices them apart and Matt punches them in the face, smashing their skulls in.)

Matt: If you think you have what it takes then get your ass over here! You don’t have time to waste your strength on these idiots!

(She nods her head and rushes toward Matt. Matt scoops her up and tosses her toward the castle. She mumbles something under her breath and the castle wall collapses, allowing her to soar inside, unharmed. She lands just beneath a set of spiraling stairs. She quickly makes her way up the stairs, stopping outside a massive set of double doors. She takes a deep breath, as a tear runs down her cheek.)

Woman: It finally ends here. I’m just sorry that it has to end like this…

(She kicks the doors in and readies her sword. She sees a thin silver-haired man clothed in skin-tight black clothes, turned away from her. He is looking out at the city.)

Man: It’s been too long, Eva.

CHAPTER 31:

INT. GARDIA-MORNING

(Eva slowly wakes up and looks up to see Matt carrying her through the city. Matt’s tears fall on Eva’s forehead, startling her. Her eyes burst open and she sits up, startling Matt. Matt sets her down and wipes the tears from his eyes.)

Matt: Are you alright?

Eva: No… No, I’m not alright!

(Eva bursts into tears and drops to her knees.)

Eva: Dan! Daniel… he’s dead! I don’t know what happened, but I watched him get ripped apart beneath the city! I don’t know how or why, but it just happened!

(Eva vomits onto the ground, as her nerves skyrocket. Matt’s tears come back as he struggles to tell her who else has died.)

Matt: Eva, this probably isn’t the best time to tell you… but… Ben, Jack, and your dad… they’re gone. They died in battle.

(Eva’s eyes widen, she bursts into tears, and screams out, until her lungs give out. Rusty walks up and leans down, looking Eva in the eyes. Rusty opens his mouth and stutters.)

Rusty: I-I-I’m sorr-rry, Eva. I’m s-sad t-t-t-too.

(Eva reaches out and hugs Rusty, completely distraught. Matt stands there, unsure of what to do.)

INT. SERIAH-MORNING

(The remainder of the Benegaian Brotherhood returns to Seriah. Many of the Knights return home to greet their families. Some families aren’t as lucky. Eva, Matt, and Rusty make their way to the castle to inform the King of the turnout.)

EXT. THE SERIAHN CASTLE THRONE ROOM

(Eva enters the throne room, while Matt and Rusty stay in the hallway. She bows to the King. He appears surprised.)

King: You may rise. Where are Commander Ross and Commander Bradford?

Eva: …Sadly, they both died in battle.

(The King appears genuinely choked up, by Eva’s words.)

King: …That is indeed unfortunate. I would like to hold a funeral ceremony in honor of all of the Knights that sacrificed their lives in the battle at Gardia. I will begin the preparations and I will inform you when I figure out when it will be held. Also, I would like to apologize, first-hand, for your loss, Lady Eva. I realize that things will not be easy for you for a while. I want you to know that we are all here for you. This city is your home and we all are your family. You know that, correct?

Eva: Of course, my lord. Thank you for your kind words. If you’ll excuse me, I have the unfortunate task of telling my mother this news, as well.

(Eva clears her throat and holds back her tears, as she bows to the King. She gets up and then exits the throne room. She looks at Rusty and Matt for a moment, but then walks by them, heading home.)

EXT. THE BRADFORD HOME

(The sky is dark and it looks as though it is about to rain. Eva walks up to her home, only to find her mother watering the garden. Lily looks up and leaps up, happy to see that her daughter is safe. She hugs her daughter, filled with energy at knowing that she is finally home.)

Lily: Where’s your father?

(Eva begins to lose her composure and quickly gets choked up as she tries to answer her mother.)

Eva: He… he fell in battle.

(Tears pour down Eva’s cheek, as her mother stumbles backwards, unable to believe that her husband is gone.)

Lily: No…

(Tears gush down Lily’s face. She quickly covers her face and drops to her knees.)

Lily: No, no, no, NO, NOOOOOOOOOOOHHHOOHOOOOOOOOO!

(Eva drops down and embraces her mother, allowing Lily to sob into her shoulder.)

INT. SERIAHN CASTLE FOYER-EVENING

(The citizens of Seriah have gathered in the foyer to honor those that died in order to protect them. A large picture of Henry and a large picture of Daniel sit at the front of the foyer, as they are the Knights that are mainly being honored. Lily is kneeling before Henry’s picture, bawling her eyes out. Eva is sitting at a table with Matt and Rusty. All three of them are sitting in silence and dwelling on their depression. Suddenly, the King rises from his throne and stands next to Daniel and Henry’s pictures.)

King: I would like to thank you all for coming this evening.

(Lily gets up and sits down at a nearby table, trying to calm down.)

King: This war has brought many a tragic loss. I am proud to say that it is over, but at an unfortunate cost. I want us all to take a moment to pray for those that are no longer with us.

(Everyone in the room bows their head and closes their eyes.)

King: Dear God, we take this moment to ask that you bless each and every Knight that was involved in this war and every family that had to suffer, because their loved ones were involved in this war. We thank you that you were there, watching over us, every step of the way and we pray that you find it in your heart to forgive us for the sacrifices that we had to make in order to ensure this newfound era of peace. Amen.

(Everyone in the room repeats the “amen” and then opens their eyes and lift their heads. The King clears his throat.)

King: On a brighter note, I would like to take this moment to honor one Knight in particular. Lady Eva, if you would please come up here.

(Eva is filled with confusion, as she slowly rises and makes her way up to the King.)

King: Lady Eva is the first female Knight of the Benegaian Brotherhood. This is quite the accomplishment in itself, but aside from that… she took on the Empress of Nethergaia and killed her, ultimately ending this war. For this feat, I would like to personally promote you to the rank of Commander.

(The citizens of Seriah begin to clap and cheer in Eva’s honor. Even Matt, Rusty, and Lily, who are still in tears, clap in Eva’s honor. Eva looks out at the crowd, stunned.)

Eva: What? Are you kidding me?!

(The crowd grows silent and the King stares at her in confusion.)

King: I’m sorry?

Eva: You would do this at a time like this?!

King: Lady Eva, this is an honor. I don’t think that you should be offended by this.

Eva: I’ll tell you what I’m offended by! I’m offended that you could turn a funeral for a great man and turn it into celebrating something!

King: Lady Eva…

(Eva storms out of the foyer, clenching her fists and holding back her tears. Matt and Rusty quickly get up chasing after her.)

EXT. THE SERIAHN CASTLE

(Eva bursts through the double doors, soon followed by Matt and Rusty.)

Matt: Eva! What the hell were you thinking?!

(Eva turns around, completely overwhelmed by her own anger and emotions.)

Eva: What the hell was I thinking?! What the hell was he thinking?! How could he do that?!

Matt: No, Eva! You were in the wrong and you know it!

Eva: Oh, I’m wrong, just because I’m sad that their dead!

Matt: No, you’re wrong because you’re being selfish! Did you hear yourself up there?! “A funeral for a great man!?” What the hell happened to everyone else that died, Eva?! You only cared that Daniel died!

Eva: Dammit, Matt! He proposed to me! Of course I give a shit that he’s gone!

Matt: There’s nothing wrong with being upset Eva! But, you get lost in your own little Dan and Eva world and you forget about everyone else! In case you’ve forgotten, Ben died, Jack died, your dad died! A lot of other people died! That funeral was for all of them and one damn moment to thank you for your hard work and you blow up?!

Eva: Then you of all people should understand! You had friends of yours die and what you don’t give a shit?!?! How can you just throw that pain aside, like it’s nothing?!

Matt: Of course I’m in pain, Eva! I miss all four of them! I’m even sad that some of the Knights that I didn’t even know are gone! But, you’re only sad because one or two of them are gone and you’re letting it affect everyone around you! Do you even care that Jack and Ben are gone?! No! Of course you don’t, you guys weren’t even friends to begin with!

(Eva goes to say something, but quickly stops.)

Eva: …What did you say?

Matt: You weren’t even really friends with us. You only cared about Daniel and you know it.

(Eva gets choked up and then turns around and storms off, as tears pour down her cheeks.)

Rusty: T-that was cold, M-matt.

(A lone tear pours down Matt’s cheek. He turns around and looks at Rusty.)

Matt: Are you serious, man? It’s true and you know it!

Rusty: N-no, it’s not. She loved Dan, Matt. Of course she’d spend time with him and think about him-m m-more. You’re just mad and you’re doing the same thing she’s d-doing. You’re letting this affect the people around y-you.

Sooo sad ...But Daniels not really dead is he ?

I don't want to spoil anything for you, but I will say that something will obviously happen, considering that I haven't ended the story, yet. lol As you remember the prologue to the story said that Eva was 40. So, there will be some sort of plot going on, until she's 40 and she is currently 21. Whether that's a timeskip or not, I'll leave up to your imagination. :P

CHAPTER 32:

(Matt looks back at Eva and watches as she makes her way into the city, not once looking back.)

INT. BEN’S HOUSE-EVENING

(Matt is lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. He is having flashbacks of some of the important moments in his life. When Daniel was following Eva on her dates with her possible suitors, Matt was also following, but stuck to the street and alleyways. When Daniel saved Eva from her last suitor’s perverted advances, Matt was on his way, but was too slow. All those times that Daniel was sitting behind Eva’s house, staring at the night sky, Matt was sitting in the front yard. Every week that Matt was off at war and Eva was stuck in Seriah, Matt sent her a letter, as well. Matt wipes a tear from his face and gets up, heading downstairs. He pours himself a glass of water and then looks into the living room. He sees Rusty lying on the couch, looking at him.)

Matt: Can’t sleep, either?

Rusty: …I know that you like Eva.

Matt: …What makes you say that?

Rusty: Just by knowing y-you most of my life. I-I could just tell. I think that most of us knew r-really.

(Matt sits down on the edge of the couch, next to Rusty’s legs.)

Matt: So, then Dan knew that I liked her?

Rusty: I’m not p-p-positive, but I think so.

(Matt shakes his head, while staring at the floor.)

Rusty: That’s probably why he waited s-so long to propose to her.

Matt: What?

Rusty: Daniel l-liked her from the moment he met her. He only g-got more and more inf-fatuated with her as time went on. But, he never made a real move, until before we left for Gardia.

Matt: I just thought that he was being shy…

Rusty: No, Matt. You were being sh-shy. Daniel cared about her and he made that fairly c-clear. But, he didn’t make a move, because he wanted to give you a shot. He was looking out for you the whole t-t-time. But, when he realized that you weren’t doing a damn thing, he made his move. You shouldn’t be m-mad at either of them for that.

Matt: I know, but it hurts. It hurts to know that I was the fat loser in the group that could never get the girl.

(Rusty sits up and stares at Matt.)

Rusty: I n-never thought that. No one did. You made that up all by yourself. I’m sure that Eva never thought that. Why do you think that she cried when you told her that you weren’t f-friends? She cares about you, Matt. Just not in that way. It sucks, but you c-can’t help who you love. You of all people should understand that.

(Rusty pats Matt on the back and then gets off of the couch, heading to bed.)

INT. THRONE ROOM-DAWN

(Matt and Rusty are in the throne room, bowing before the King.)

King: Rise.

(Matt and Rusty rise and stand tall, in the presence of the King.)

King: I would’ve assigned Lady Eva to lead this mission, but unfortunately, she has resigned from the Benegaian Brotherhood and left Seriah.

(Matt and Rusty appear distraught over the news, but quickly try to control their emotions.)

King: Anyway, I would like the two of you to lead a small group of Knights to Gardia and salvage anything you can that may be of use to us. I was informed that the Nethergaians have built some marvelous things. I would like to see what they have to offer, in the hopes that we may put their advances to good use. Do you have any questions?

Matt and Rusty: No, sir.

(Matt and Rusty bow one last time, before leaving the throne room.)

Matt: Why do you think she left?

Rusty: I think she’s confused and upset.

Matt: Do you think we should do something?

Rusty: Yeah, our job. Just let her be f-for now. She’ll come back… when she’s ready. It wouldn’t be wise to force her to come back. Not after everything that’s h-happened.

Matt: Ugh, I guess you’re right. Well, we’d better get going. The faster we get to work the less time we’ll have to worry about it.

INT. THE BUNKER BENEATH GARDIA

(The bunker is empty, except for the bed and equipment used to keep the Emperor alive all these years. Suddenly, the black pieces that Daniel had split into, reform in the air above the bed. The pieces conglomerate into one large black gooey object. The object reshapes itself and turns into Daniel, albeit with gray elderly hair. Daniel lands on the bed and begins breathing heavily.)

Daniel: HAHAHAHAHAHA! It worked!

(Daniel’s voice sounds a bit different. He sounds as though the Emperor’s voice is echoing off of each word he utters.)

Daniel: IT WORKED!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

(Daniel begins to cough, violently, spewing blood onto the floor. He attempts to climb off of the bed, but falls, barely able to walk.)

Daniel: Dammit! It seems that it will take some time to get use to this body!

CHAPTER 33:

INT. SERIAH-19 YEARS LATER-MORNING

(Eva comes through the front gates of Seriah, riding a horse. She is now 40 years old, but still does not have the scar on her cheek from the prologue. She rides through the streets, quickly drawing the attention of the citizens.)

Middle-aged man: Is that Eva Bradford?!

Elderly woman: Lady Eva?! It couldn’t be!

(Eva continues through the streets, making her way to her mother’s house. She looks around her, noticing that the buildings have become nicer and the city, in general, seems to have advanced. Benegaia has been borrowing from Nethergaia’s technological advances, drastically changing their lifestyle. Television, indoor plumbing, electricity, and many other things have made their way into the Benegaian’s everyday lives. Eva leaps off of her horse, tying it to a stable outside of the castle. She walks up to the door and hesitantly knocks on it. Lily soon comes to the door and is amazed to see her daughter after all of these years. She hasn’t aged to well, dealing with the stress of losing her husband and daughter all in such a brief point in time. She bursts into tears and embraces her daughter, without uttering a word.)

Eva: I’m so sorry, mom. I was being selfish and I didn’t think about the consequences. I realize that you must hate me for leaving you after everything that happened.

Lily: Just please, stop talking. I don’t want to do anything, but hold you in my arms again.

(Lily sobs into Eva’s shoulder, heartbroken and a bit happier, both at the same time.)

EXT. BEN’S HOUSE

(Matt steps outside and stretches, enjoying the fresh air. He walks over to his mailbox and checks the mail. Rusty runs up, a little flustered.)

Matt: You alright, buddy?

Rusty: Eva’s back!

(Matt stands there for a moment, not sure what to do. He puts the mail back in the mailbox and begins to walk down the road, making his way toward Lily’s house. Matt reaches the house and knocks on the door, nervously waiting to see Eva. Lily opens the door and smiles at Matt.)

Lily: Hello, Matthew! Won’t you come in?

(Lily steps aside and Matt looks in to see Eva sitting at the kitchen table. Matt steps inside, as Eva looks away from Matt.)

Lily: I’m going to step outside for a moment.

(Lily exits the house, leaving the two alone. Matt slowly walks over to the table and puts his hand on the top of the nearby chair.)

Eva: …Hi.

Matt: Hey. How have you been?

Eva: Not too bad.

Matt: That’s good… I just came over here to apologize…

Eva: Please don’t. I honestly don’t want to think about the past. It’s too painful. We both said things that we didn’t mean and I forgive you and I hope you’ll forgive me. But, I just want us to go back to the way things were.

Matt: …I’d like that.

(Eva gets up and hugs Matt.)

Eva: So, where’s Rusty?

Matt: He’s at home, relaxing. It’s our day off.

Eva: That’s cool. Well, if you’ll excuse me, I have a lot to do now that I’m back.

Matt: Oh, yeah! Of course, I understand. I’ll see you around?

Eva: Yeah, of course.

(Matt waves goodbye and slowly walks out the door, sighing under his breath.)

INT. SERIAHN THRONE ROOM

(The King is sitting at his throne. He has aged fairly well, but he is not many years away from his end. Eva walks into the room, much to his surprise. She quickly bows before him.)

King: Please rise, Lady Eva!

(Eva stands up and stares at the King, biting her lip. The King smiles, ecstatic to see her again.)

King: It’s good to see you after all these years! To what do I owe such an honor?

Eva: I wanted to apologize for my abrupt resignation from the Brotherhood. I realize now, that I was being selfish and stupid and just so many things that I should not have been. I failed you, I failed myself, and I failed my nation and for that I apologize.

King: It is quite alright, Lady Eva. I am just glad to see that you are safe. I had not heard much about your whereabouts these last few years? Would you be willing to divulge the reason for your absence all these years?

Eva: …Yes, of course, my lord. I was angry about the death of Daniel, my father, and everyone dear to me that I had lost in the battle at Gardia. I was quite puzzled about Daniel’s death in particular. You see, when I entered the bunker beneath Gardia, I found Daniel floating in the air, alone. There was a bed and some odd equipment, seemingly for medical use. He was ripped apart, before my very eyes and the remnants of his body disappeared. So, I traveled anywhere and everywhere, hoping to get answers. I studied more advanced sorcery, believing that it may have had something to do with Daniel’s death. I came across a highly dangerous sorcery technique, known as possession. This technique allows someone to remove the soul from another’s body, send it to the afterlife, and put their soul into this new vessel. The main use for this technique is to allow someone who is at death’s door to transport their soul into a younger body, so that they may live longer.

INT. SERIAH

(A skinny hooded man walks into Seriah. His long gray hair sticks out from beneath his hood.)

INT. SERIAHN CASTLE THRONE ROOM

Eva: This technique describes what I saw happen to Daniel.

(The King leans forward, becoming uncomfortable with what he is hearing.)

Eva: I believe that someone with an advanced talent for sorcery has possessed Daniel, more than likely a Nethergaian. Now with the medical equipment that was in that bunker, I assume it to be a very old individual, hoping to use Daniel’s body to live longer. Luckily the possession technique has some risks that the Nethergaians were working on overcoming. 1. The possessor must consume a lot of time in trying to adjust to their new vessel. Their soul was not made to use another body and therefore has trouble adjusting to a new body. 2. The possessor will suffer a great decrease in their sorcery skills, as sorcery requires a strong spiritual, mental, and physical connection. But, when the soul is placed into a new body, much of this connection is lost and some of the previous connection will never be able to be re-obtained. Despite the disadvantages that this technique seems to have, the possessor may be a powerful enough sorcerer that these disadvantages won’t do them much harm, especially after 19 years of getting use to the new body.

King: So, you believe that someone has possessed Daniel and has been using these last 20 years to get use to the body and hone their skills in order to re-ignite this war?

Eva: I do.

King: But, who would do such a thing?

(Suddenly, the doors to the throne room burst open and the hooded man steps in. Eva turns around, but has no time to react. The man teleports in front of the King and lifts him off of his throne, holding him by his throat. He crushes the King’s throat, using only his bare hand. The man uses his sorcery to create a large gap in the nearby wall. He tosses the King outside, throwing his body into the streets of Seriah. The nearby citizens break into a panic. Eva creates a large group of icicles around the hooded man, ready to strike. The man pulls his hood down and his hair turns brown, making him look exactly like Daniel. Eva hesitates and the man emits a torrent of flame, melting the icicles and causing Eva to leap away. The man rushes at Eva and pulls out a sword, slicing her cheek and making the scar that she had in the prologue. The man uses his telekinesis to send Eva through the gap in the wall and out into the city. Eva does a back flip and hovers above the ground, saving herself from her fatal fall. Suddenly, zombies rise from the ground and a large group of sorcerers begin to raid the city. Eva takes her necklace off and transforms it into a blade, preparing herself for battle. She begins hacking through the zombies, making her way toward the castle.)

Daniel: DO YOU LIKE MY LATEST TECHNIQUE?!?! HAHAHAHAHA!!! LET’S SEE YOU GET OUT OF THIS ONE YOU WORTHLESS BASTARDS!!!!!

(The zombies and sorcerers terrorize the city, killing many citizens and the unprepared Knights, as well. Princess Mia rushes toward the castle, worried about her father. Matt rushes up, hoping to save as many people as possible. A nearby zombie leaps toward Mia, but Matt jumps in the way and elbows the zombie in the head, crushing his skull. Mia turns around, completely in shock at what is going on.)

Matt: Princess Mia, I am Commander Matthew Ross, we are trying to lead as many people as we can out of the city. You need to get out of here, as soon as possible!

(Rusty rushes up and grabs Mia’s arm, guiding her toward the city entrance.)

Mia: Thank you, Commander Matthew! I am forever in your debt!

(Eva quickly becomes overwhelmed by the never-ending group of zombies, unassisted by the unprepared and rusty Knights. Matt leaps down from a nearby rooftop and smashes a nearby zombie’s head with a devastating punch.)

Matt: Eva, we have to get out of here!

Eva: Are you kidding me?! How can you just abandon our city like that?!?!

Matt: I’m not abandoning anyone! There’s nothing we can do! If we die then what did we do for this city! Nothing! We have to get as many people as we can out of here and we need to regroup!

Eva: I’m not going, you got that!

(Matt hits the back of Eva’s neck, knocking her out. He quickly catches her and picks up her necklace/sword. He puts the necklace around her neck and then hoists her over his shoulder. He reaches the front gates and sees Rusty and a group of Knights and citizens. Mia and Lily are among the group.)

Rusty: Are you sure about this, Matt?

Matt: No, but there’s nothing else we can do!

(Rusty nods and the two of them begin to lead the group out of the city. The group makes their way through the open field, eventually coming across a secret bunker in the side of a cliff. Matt and Rusty guide the group inside. They reach the end of the tunnel and enter a large room, filled with supplies in case of an emergency. Matt lays Eva down and then creates a small sphere of water over her head. He drops it and it splashes on her face, quickly waking her up. She coughs and then sits up and looks around, confused.)

Eva: What the hell, Matt?!?!

Matt: I had to do it, you wouldn’t listen to reason!

(Eva quickly rises to her feet, filled with anger.)

Eva: Dammit, stop trying to control me! I get that you care, but you’re being selfish! This is the same thing you told me not to do and now you’re doing it! I’m going back there and I’m saving Seriah, whether you help me or not!

(Eva rushes out of the bunker, filled with rage. Matt shakes his head and punches the wall, trying to figure out what to do.)

Rusty: Come on. You know you want to help her, so let’s just get out there and do this. If we sit around here, she could die and we’d only have ourselves to blame for not helping her.

(Matt thinks it over and then rushes past Rusty. Rusty smiles and follows Matt out of the bunker. Eva makes her way toward the city. She rushes toward the town, alerting a group of undead near the entrance. They break away from the town, prepared to attack. Eva yanks her necklace off and transforms it into a blade.)

Talk about making an entrance !

Next chapter is the last, so enjoy! xD

CHAPTER 34:

(She glares at the oncoming group of undead. She extends her free hand and releases a flurry of ice. The group becomes encased in ice. She rushes at them and cuts them down, as they are powerless to stop her. Many of the other zombies in the city see her coming and decide to greet her. She doesn’t slow down, ready to end this. She cuts through a few of the first monsters and then stops waving her hand around and mumbling under her breath. Suddenly, Matt scoops Eva off the ground.)

Eva: Matt! You showed up!

(The woman wraps her arms around his neck, as tears pour down her cheeks.)

Matt: Yeah I did! You should’ve never come here by yourself!

(Flurries of arrows continue to spray down on the undead around them. The woman stops hugging him and he sets her down.)

Eva: I had no other choice, you guys wouldn’t help me!

Matt: Then you shouldn’t have come at all!

Eva: And just let them win, after everything they’ve done! No thanks.

(She turns and picks up her cross/sword. An arrow soars past her head and into the skull of an undead, running up behind her.)

Eva: I can see that Rusty’s here.

(Rusty waves at them, from atop the nearby cliff.)

Matt: We were worried about you. It seems that we had a right to be.

Eva: Thanks for your help, but it would’ve been nice to know that I had it in the first place.

Matt: I’m sorry. But, this is a big job for just the three of us. Things ain’t what they use to be. What makes you think you can take this guy down?

Eva: …I’m not sure that I can.

She mumbles an incantation under her breath and the castle wall collapses, allowing her to soar inside, unharmed. She lands just beneath a set of spiraling stairs. She quickly makes her way up the stairs, stopping outside a massive set of double doors. She takes a deep breath, as a tear runs down her cheek.)

Eva: It finally ends here. I’m just sorry that it has to end like this…

(She kicks the doors in and readies her sword. She sees Daniel, albeit with gray hair, looking out at the city.)

Daniel: It’s been too long, Eva.

Eva: Cut the bullshit, I know you’re not Daniel.

(Daniel turns around and his hair turns brown.)

Daniel: Hahahaha! Of course I am, my dear. This body is still the one you call Daniel, but I’m merely pulling the strings.

Eva: How dare you?!?! How can you just use an innocent man like this?!?! You took his life from him! His soul is gone, never to return and you’re to blame!

(Eva rushes at Daniel, readying her blade. Daniel releases a fireball from the palm of his hand, but Eva teleports out of the way. She reappears behind Daniel, but he sees through her simple teleportation. He quickly turns around and puts his foot up, blocking her blade with his solid boot. Eva releases a burst of ice from her hand, trying to trap Daniel, but he breathes a breath of fire, melting the ice. Eva teleports and ends up on the opposite end of the room.)

Daniel: You can only teleport so far, for so long, my dear!

(Daniel rushes toward her.)

Daniel: You’ll simply tire yourself out tossing your sorcery around so easily! Hahahaha!

(Outside, the Knights that fled the city have begun to flow back into the city, ready to help Rusty and Matt fight back against the zombie army. Daniel uses his sorcery to rip the castle wall apart. The pieces hover around him, as an extra defense and offense. Eva readies her sword and charges it with a holy aura. She begins slicing through the hovering pieces of the wall with her enhanced blade. Daniel leaps in between the group of broken wall, while Eva is distracted. But, Eva has not once taken her sights off of Daniel and easily deflects his sword swipe. Eva summons a massive whirlpool around the two of them, cutting them off from the rest of the room. She quickly punches him in the face, knocking him into the water. But, the force of the water causes him to bounce back toward her. Eva kicks him in the chest and then cuts through his torso, with her energy-enhanced blade. Daniel yells out an incantation and summons a tornado, causing the water to disperse. He quickly puts his hand against his wound and mutters an incantation, healing the wound. Eva rushes at him, trying not to give him the chance to heal. Daniel begins to rapidly teleport around the room, trying to confuse Eva. Eva stands still, carefully watching and listening. Daniel unexpectedly teleports right in front of her and gets ready to stab her. He charges his blade with a black aura and nearly stabs her, but Eva leaps away and merely suffers the destruction of the piece of armor on her torso, caused from his energy-enhanced blade. But, Daniel doesn’t waste any time and quickly grabs her throat and lifts her off her feet. Eva struggles to breathe.)

Daniel: Hahahaha! If you can’t speak then you can’t utter any incantations!

(He tightens his grip and Eva sputters, gasping for air. Eva drops her blade and it turns back into a necklace.)

Daniel: Maybe you just aren’t as good of a sorcerer as you thought!

(Suddenly, a lightning bolt strikes down from the sky, pumping Eva and Daniel full of massive amounts of electricity. Daniel lets go of Eva and the two hit the ground, barely able to move. Matt looks up at the castle, terrified as he watches the lightning strike the remains of the throne room. He hears Eva and Daniel scream at the top of their lungs.)

Matt: EVA!!!

(Matt rushes toward the castle, knocking the zombies in his path aside. Daniel rolls around, coughing in pain. The electricity courses through his body, restricting his movements. Eva presses her palms against the floor, pushing herself up onto her knees. The electricity continues to flow through her body, causing her immense pain. Tears gush out of Eva’s eyes, as she rises to her feet. She stumbles forward and grabs her necklace off the floor. The necklace transforms back into a blade and she begins to stumble toward Daniel’s injured body.)

Daniel: D-did you GAGHEAAAGGGGHAHAHHHH! You can use s-s-s-s-sorcery without inc-c-c-c-cantations?!?!

Eva: GGGAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHH! Maybe I’m a better sorcerer than you thought!

(Daniel holds out his hand and tries to sling a fireball at Eva, but his body isn’t responding. Matt leaps into the air, teleporting through the air in an attempt to reach the throne room and assist Eva.)

Daniel: DAMM-M-M-M-MIT! THE BODY ISN’T R-R-R-R-RESPONDING TO MY SOUL!!!

(Daniel cries out in pain, as Eva stumbles closer and closer. She reaches Daniel and lifts her blade above her head, preparing to strike. Daniel holds his hand out, trying with all his might to use one last spell. Eva brings her blade down and pierces Daniel’s chest. For a brief moment, time seems to be standing still. Matt reaches the edge of the throne room, but suddenly a lightning bolt strikes down hitting Daniel and Eva. Eva’s head flails back, as she cries out in pain. Daniel’s body flails around, but he is already dead and unable to feel the same pain that Eva is feeling. The lightning dies down and Matt watches in horror, as Eva’s blade transforms back into her necklace, and her lifeless body falls on top of Daniel’s. Matt stands there for a moment, but suddenly his body moves toward the two, almost as if he is moving out of his own control. Matt falls forward, horrified by what he just witnessed. Tears burst from his eyes, as he kneels next to his former best friend and his former crush.)

This is a short chapter, but it is also the last. xD

CHAPTER 35:

Matt: DAMMIT!!! DAMMIT!!! DAMMIT!!!

(The zombies that are rampaging through Seriah begin to disintegrate, no longer bound by Daniel’s magic. The Knights look around and slowly begin to relax. Rusty leaps down from the cliff and enters the bunker, escorting the citizens back into the city.)

Mia (narrating): Peace isn’t something that is so easily maintained. After nearly 20 years of a general calm, war had nearly resurfaced. Luckily, every time peace is lost, there are a brave few who choose to stand against such injustice. Unfortunately, those brave few may have to sacrifice everything just to do so. Things like friendship, family, life, their own happiness, and even love are so easily lost when you stand up for the general welfare of the world. Is it worth it? To most it is not. But, I knew many such people that would walk through Hell and back to save the ones they love and assure their peace and happiness. If it were not for these people I would not be the Queen that I am today. Most of them are gone, having sacrificed their life for what they believed in, although a few of them still live today, wiser and stronger than they once were. Russell Ross has gone on to become one of the most famed Commanders of the Benegaian Brotherhood, helping to ensure another long and prosperous era of peace. Matthew Ross went on for much bigger things. He and I fell in love, soon after and he more than rose to the challenge of becoming the next King of Benegaia. Lady Eva’s mother, Lily, died, a few weeks after her daughter, of a broken heart. But I am sure that she is in a better place, filled with all of these wonderful people that gave everything they had to acquire everything they could.

INT. A STRANGE WHITE SKY

(Eva is lying on a white cloud, surrounded by an endless white sky and too many clouds to count. She wakes up and sees Daniel standing over her. They have both reverted to their 20 year old selves. She sits up and takes his hand, quickly rising to her feet. He is wearing a stunning black tuxedo and she is wearing a thin white dress. She stares at him, falling head over heels for him, once again.)

Eva: Where are we going?

Daniel: Hahaha, to our wedding, of course.

Eva: Our wedding?

Daniel: I proposed to you, didn’t I? That wasn’t just some empty promise, you know. Everyone’s waiting, so we’d better hurry along.

Eva: Everyone?

Daniel: Ben, Jack, your father, the King, and so many others. Their all here to support us, as we take this next step!

Eva: But, what about Matt, Rusty, and my mother?

Daniel: They're still needed back in Benegaia. It’s not their time, but one day it will be and we’ll be right here waiting for them.

(Eva smiles and slowly begins to cry, overcome with relaxation and joy. Daniel leads her into a bright white light and the two disappear, ready to begin their next journey.)

A WORD FROM THE AUTHOR:

Eva is the first romance story that I ever came up with and considering that I have very little experience or influential stories to go off of, I feel that I handled it pretty well. I came up with this story, originally as a story about a young man and woman who rebel against a tyrannical nation and sacrifice so much for the good of others and for the long-term good of themselves. The story didn't seem to flow well, so I combined it with a story about a war between two nations, one run by Knights and the other by Sorcerers. Neither of these stories were bad ideas, but they didn't work so well alone. Hahaha, I guess you could say that sort of fits the theme of the story, as Eva and Daniel worked well alone, but couldn't stand to be apart. Anyway, I highly enjoyed writing this story and I hope that everyone reading it(although, I'm pretty sure that Flaming Lea was the only one who read until the end. lol) enjoyed it as much as I did! I will be returning to my story "Travis Mason" and to those of you who enjoyed this, I hope you'll give my other stories a chance as well! Again, thank you for reading "Eva!"
