What are Link Portals?

 

When you are playing the game, you will often notice spiky pink circles on the bottom map screen. These are Link Portals, and either let you fight a set of Dream Eaters for a prize, or borrow a pre-set party of Dream Eaters for a short period of time. Most of these portals are named after various Disney or Square-Enix characters - such as Squall or Firion. These portals are random, and are not necessary for game completion.

 

Each combat Portal has a Bonus Objective, such as beating it within 20 seconds or pulling off 3 counters during the fight. Beating this objective will grant you an extra item after battle, usually a Royal Cake, Treasure Goggles or Water Barrel for raising Spirits. All prizes are random, though you always get a Dream Piece as the main reward - some of the rarest ones may only be obtainable in this way.

 

How do I access Link Portals?

 

This can cause confusion to a few people. Firstly, while you can see Link Portals on zoomed-out view - you must be zoomed IN to access them. When you stand on the corresponding spot of the map, a pop-up box will appear with the name of the portal. Tap on the box on the touch-screen to access the portal.

 

What are Special Portals?

 

Every world has six unique, fixed portals per character - 6 for Sora, 6 for Riku. The only exception is The World That Never Was, which has 3 per character. Only one of the six Special Portals available in each world is open at any one time, and which portal is active changes each time you Drop.

 

There are also Secret Portals that open up later in the game - these allow you to refight bosses, albeit much harder than the original fight. These portals are always available once you are far enough in the game, and are located in the boss rooms that you fought them in originally. I will list their locations as well.

 

How do I know which Special Portal is open?

 

At the bottom of the Start Menu (and shown on the World Map) is the Forecast screen. This screen shows a silhouette of the Dream Eater contained within the Special Portal that is currently open. It also gives a description for that Dream Eater, such as Lucky customer or Heavyweight hulk.

 

However, some worlds have two portals containing the same monster, so it's not always possible to tell exactly which portal is open. However, using this guide should help you narrow down the possible areas.

 

Once you beat a portal, the silhouette of the Dream Eater will show the Dream Eater's picture, and it will say "DONE!". The Portal will then disappear for the remainder of the game until you have beaten all of them - from which point you can replay them as many times as you like.

 

Once a Special Portal is beaten, it can be the "active" portal on the forecast again, but it will still be beaten. When this happens, there will be no open portal on that world, so you'll need to Drop again to change that world's portal. Therefore, the last few Portals are the worst since you'll need to keep Dropping to cycle the active portal.

 

What do I get for beating the Special Portals?

 

If you beat ALL the Special Portals for a character, you unlock a new Keyblade (End of Pain, same for both characters) for that character. All Special Portals give "Fantasy" level Dream Pieces as prizes, as well as normal Bonus Items. Bonus Items aren't too important, so I wouldn't worry about beating them all too much. And as I said before, once you beat them all, the game will allow you to access them all again to earn more items.

 

Here's the format for each Special Portal

 

To find Special Portals, first check your forecast for the current silhouette and check the Dream Eater description. Then see which Special Portals in this guide (for that area and character) match up to that description.

 

From there you can see which location that Dream Eater is located, or at least have a maximum of 3 possible places to look. Remember - if there isn't an empty silhouette, you'll need to Drop to change which portal is open in that area for that character.

if we do get a final mix of Kh 3d i hope they add in a secret portal for anti black coat but he has an oposite colour shceme so he is Anti white coat also he moves just like vanitas and YX.

For the ones in the Fountain Plaza of Traverse Town, how do we get those post-game if Julius is there...?

 

tough luck buddy, in that situation you can only explore Fountain Plaza after beating Julius, and you can check the hole where he came from if you want a rematch too.

Trust me, the guy's not that hard just be prepared. Most of his attacks are predictable, eventually you just know how to dodge them, and just land a command or two on him, bring 2 healing spells with you, take hi-potions along if you want.

The commands i used to beat him with Riku were simple, really. Curaga,Cura,Hi-Potion,Shadowbreaker,Thunder dash, Prism Windmill,Blizzard Edge and Spark Dive. The commands i used with sora were similar, but i took out the Hi-potion and the Spark Dive for the Ars Arcanum, i just love that attack

Make sure to stock on Attack Boost if you wanna take out his hp faster, some Magic Haste to speed up the healing spells' cooldown and hp boost, cuz those are always good haha

Second chance and once more are a must.

Secret Portals appear only after you beat the game.

 

after you beat the game, the secret portals will be in the area where you fought each of the bosses. They're not hard to find at all and they're always available to open too.

Yeah I tried a couple times but kept getting killed when I got cornered with Riku so far. Then flowmotion helped when he'd rush at you with his lightning fists. BUT, then he disabled ALL my commands so then I was powerless and he was on his last health bar. I got annoyed after that but I'll try again later.

 

yeah, you should be careful whenever he gets those lightning fists. I'm not sure about this, but I think those lightning fists become permanent when his hp is running out. This happened when i played as riku, but it didn't happen when i played as sora. That could be because i just finished him faster or something. Either way, use Dark Roll, i was able to dodge almost all of his attacks with it, but try not to use that sonic impact thing (that 2nd dodge after the dark roll) cuz you can get hit during the sonic impact. Pretty much the same dodge method a lot of people used against the Mysterious Figure in Birth By Sleep, but Julius is a lot easier than that

As for him disabling your commands,they're not too bad, so long a it doesn't happen to all your healing spells. If that happens, well... Good luck! haha

Can someone please give a strategy for defeating Special Portal 1 in Prankster's Paradise for Riku? I refuse to beat it without getting the bonus, but I can't find a strategy that DOESN'T involve falling in the water. That's what has been stopping me every time. I need a strategy!!!

I'm having a problem with all portals in La Cite Des Cloches ._. Even though I find the portals, complete them and pass them yet the dream eater in the forecast still appears as a silhouette.

I'm having some problems... For example: I have the silhouette in prankster's paradise with Sora, I have lucky costumer sighted, and I searched the possible areas for the juggle pup to appear... But in the whole map I don't get the link portal. Like it's nowhere, not only I searched the possible areas but the whole area. I'm getting worried it might be some glitch. If I drop until I get the same special portal, it will appear?

 

Well it looks like the glitch is now over, before I couldn't even see any other link portals.

I'm having some trouble. I've been dropping to find the silhouette of the Dream Eater that's for the Special portal, yet it doesn't show.

in traverse town there's on riku's side a kooma panda(heavyweight hulk) silhouette that i can't find anyware so i thought you should know where he is but... it doesn't stand here do you know where to find him?

Im starting to get really pissed off here. I have gone to multiple different locations listed on this list and none of the special portals are ever there. I checked every single location based on who the dream eater is and there is never a special portal there.
