Blade Of Alchemy (KH&FMA fanfic)

Posted

Hey all, this is a fanfic where I intend to mix KH and Full Metal Alchemist. The events in this story are my own ideas of the events that take place after the movie "Full Metal Alchemist: Conqueror Of Shamballa", with a little mix of Kingdom Hearts.

Just a heads up, by the way, this fanfic is related to the original FMA and it's movie (FMA:CoS). I'm not going to connect it to FMA:B or the OVAs mainly because I haven't seen them X3

Well I hope you enjoy it http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/happy.png

Chapter 1: Amestris

(

)

Winry Rockbell, now nineteen years old, stood in front of a grave in her home town-Resembool. She gently placed the flowers by the grave as she did so every month. It had been two years since she had last seen Edward return from the gate in the underground city, beneath Central.

Winry's life had not been an easy one. In her childhood, her parents had been killed in the notorious 'Ishbalan war'. Several years later she had lost Edward and when she finally got him back, he had left again. Shortly after Edward returned to the parallel world he had come back from, she realized that Alphonse too had disappeared and was the first to reach the conclusion that he had followed his brother into the gate Later she discovered that Wrath had also disappeared and after a week she stopped searching, telling herself,"When he wants to come back, he will".

Winry took one last look at the grave before leaving. It had been almost a year since the woman who raised her, after the death of her parents, passed away. Winry's grandmother was the one who had inspired her into becoming an auto-mail designer and had taught her how to do so. After the disappearance of both the Elric brothers, her grandmother was the only family she had left and with her gone Winry felt there was only one thing left for her to do now- find Edward.

Winry now lived in Central with her pet dog. This also allowed her to be close to her friend, Sheska, the librarian at Central.

(Music stops)

It was a little past sunset. Alex Louis Armstrong, often known as the 'Strong-arm Alchemist' walked by a street in Central happily humming to himself while carrying some construction material for a building which was being repaired after the strange incident that caused a lot of damage to central two years ago. Most of the city had been repaired, thanks to the use of Alchemy. Now all that was left was to cover up the large hole in the ground that showed the underground city. There had been too many questions about it and Central Command wanted to cover it up to avoid all the annoying questions.

He passed by an alley when, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a small girl in a black cloak, sitting in the far corner of the alley. She simply sat there, holding herself like she had been affected by trauma, staring at the ground through her blue eyes like she had been hypnotized. He decided to confront her.

She sat there, confused, scared, haunted by questions. She had woken up in this alley only a few hours ago. She had never been here before. What worried her more was that she was alive. She sat in the corner of the alley and stared at the ground as words and questions echoed in her head.

......"Then, come back with us..."

.........................................................................................................................................................."Insolent puppet..."

................."Go on! You keep running, but I'll always be there to bring you back.."

...................................................................................................................."Figure out who really needs you more..."

"Even I won't be able to remember you..."

..........................................................................................................................................."Where am I?"

................................."How did I get here?"

........................................................................................."How did I..?"

"Young lady, what are you doing here all by yourself?", came the words from a very tall, broad figure in front of her.

She finally looked away from the ground and looked at him. He was probably twice her size, with a little bit of blonde hair and a large yellow mustache. He wasn't wearing a shirt and had an extremely muscular body, to the point where it was a bit scary. She didn't reply and simply returned to staring at the ground.

"Where is you family?", he asked yet again. She still didn't reply. Armstrong sat on one knee near her and put down the construction material.

"Do you have any friends?". For the first time he saw a response. She nodded, but for some reason a small tear rolled down her cheek.

Louis was not a fool, he immediately decided not to ask her about her family or friends. He remained silent for sometime.

"What is your name?", he asked.

Finally she replied, not with a nod or a head-shake, but with a word, "Xion (shi-on)".

"Well, Xion, I must tell you that a dark alley is not safe for someone your age. Come with me, you look like you could use a place to rest", Louis Armstrong replied with a friendly look as he offered her his hand.

Xion continued to stare at the ground for sometime and then stood up and nodded slowly, still looking at the ground. Armstrong got up, picked up his construction material and said,"follow me", as he began to walk out of the alley.

Chapter 2: Central

They approached a large, heavily guarded building. There were several men in blue uniforms carrying rifles of different kinds. Tanks were also present in the area. Xion had never seen weapons like these before. As they continued walking Xion spoke,"Excuse me"

"Yes?", Armstrong asked as without stopping or turning around.

"I never got your name", she said. He suddenly stopped and became silent. Did she ask the wrong question?

Then came the reply," I'm glad you asked" and suddenly he turned around. "Major Alex Louis Armstrong THE STRONG-ARM ALCHEMIST!", he said as he flexed his over-sized muscles and sparkles appeared everywhere.

Xion giggled," it's nice to meet you major". She was feeling a little better now.

They continued walking and entered the building. It was a rather busy looking place. People in blue uniforms ran around, some carrying documents, others simply walking about.

They reached a room. Armstrong opened the door and entered. There were a few other people inside, all of whom got up and saluted Armstrong. Armstrong saluted back at them and then all of them lowered their hands.

"Uh..Major, who's the kid?", a young blonde-haired man smoking a cigarette asked.

"Oh this is Xion. I found her outside, it appears she's lost", he replied and then turned to a young woman with short-black hair,"Lieutenant Ross would you and Denny mind watching her while I go and drop-off the supplies?".

"Not at all sir", Lieutenant Ross replied. Armstrong nodded and left. Ross nudged a blonde haired man sleeping on the desk beside her.

"What?", he said loudly as he woke up from his nap. Xion looked around, there were three other men aside from the ones assigned to watch her. The man smoking the cigarette sat behind his desk, ignoring her as he wrote something on a sheet of paper. The other man had white hair, except on the sides where it was black. He was playing chess with his.fellow who was slightly chubby and had orange hair. Clearly the man with the orange hair was winning.

Lieutenant Ross and her partner Denny approached. "My name is Maria Ross and this is my partner Denny Brosh", she introduced herself and her partner.

"I'm Xion", Xion replied.

Maria offered her a seat. "Do you remember how you got here?", she asked. She was nice, but was clearly serious about her job. Her partner Denny, on the other hand, looked rather lazy. Xion shook her head.

"Well kid, what DO you remember?", Denny finally spoke.

"Not much", Xion lied.

"You mean you've lost your memory?", Maria asked, looking concerned.

"Kind of", Xion lied again. Xion had no plan to tell anyone the truth about herself until she knew where she was and who these people were. After all, how many people would believe her if she said she was from another world and that she can wield a giant key that appears out of nowhere?

"Hey kid, did you try seeing a doctor?", the man with the cigarette asked.

"She's a kid who's lost her memory, Havoc, and what's more is that she probably doesn't even know where she is. I doubt a doctor would be the first thing on her mind", the man with white hair spoke.

Suddenly the door opened and a young, lady with a serious look on her face and blonde-hair entered the room. The others got up and saluted. "Lieutenant Hawkeye", Havoc said as she saluted back. After lowering their hands she looked at Xion and then at Maria and Denny." You do know kids aren't allowed in HQ, right?", she said with a slightly irritated expression on her face. Xion had the urge to say 'I'm not a kid', but decided to remain quiet.

"Major Armstrong dropped her off here. He said he found her outside and she doesn't remember anything either", Lieutenant Ross replied.

Lt. Hawkeye sighed. "Fine, but you better find her a place to stay soon. This isn't a daycare centre and it's not safe for people to wander around unguarded, understand?", she said firmly," Oh and get her something to eat". Lt. Hawkeye walked towards an empty desk and began to write on a sheet of paper.

"You heard her", Ross said to Denny.

"What? But why me?', Denny whined.

"Just do it".

"Fine", Denny sighed and left the room.

Havoc turned towards Hawkeye."So Lieutenant, any news?", he asked.

"We're still working on it. The Underground City might have something to do with all of this", she replied without turning away from her work.

" I don't get it, I thought Mustang destroyed the gate", the man with orange hair said.

"He did, but as you can see it didn't do much good", Lt.Hawkeye replied.

"Gate!?", a voice in Xion's head exclaimed.

"Um..Lieutenant do you think we should be discussing this here?", Maria asked.

"It's fine Ross, this is common information. Almost everyone knows", she replied.

The door opened again and Armstrong entered accompanied by a young back haired man. Much like Hawkeye, he also had a serious look on his face.

"Oh hey Mustang! You're back!", the man with orange hair exclaimed.

"That's Major Roy Mustang, Breda", he replied with a smirk.

"What? You got promoted? Aw man that means he outranks us again now", Havoc frowned.

Lt.Hawkeye, who had clearly noticed that Roy wanted to discuss something serious, got up."Is there something you wanted to discuss, sir?", she asked.

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I do", he replied. "Everyone, inside the office, now!". He gesture towards a door at the back of the room.

Everyone got up and walked towards the door. Ross was about to get up, but Armstrong stopped her.

"You need to stay and watch her Lieutenant. We'll fill you in later", he said and Maria resumed her seat.

Chapter 3: Lightning

After a minute of silence Xion turned to Ross."What did he mean by 'destroyed the gate'?", she asked.

"You don't know?".

"Not really", Xion replied.

"Well, see, about two years ago something strange happened. There were these strange earthquakes across the country and in several places these 'portals' started opening and some strange soldiers started coming out of them-"

"Soldiers?".

"Yes, but not like the ones here. They were wearing armor and they were covered in some strange, black thing. They appeared out of the Underground City along with some giant, flying ship."

"Was it also covered in that same, black stuff?", Xion asked.

"Yes. They caused a lot of damage before we could put an end to them. And now, just a few months ago these, other strange creatures started appearing. You've seen them, right?".

"Um...", Xion couldn't reply. Lt. Ross sighed.

"Where have you been all this time? Anyways, these creatures are strange, black monsters so if you see them, RUN, Okay?". Xion nodded.

"Strange..black..monsters...could it be?", Xion pondered over this for a while.

The door opened and Denny came in. "Here you go, a sandwich", he said as he placed a small paper-bag on the table. Xion took it out and looked at it for a while. The food she ate at the castle was much different from this, but , nevertheless, she took a bite. Xion's eyes widened. It tasted so good. She could just keep on eating. Unfortunately, this heavenly moment had to end.

The other door opened and the officers stepped out. Major Roy Mustang was the first to leave an headed straight for the door, followed by Havoc and Breda. All three left the room. Lt. Hawkeye came out and returned to her desk while Armstrong and the man with white hair came out last. Armstrong approached Xion. "Young lady, are you by any chance an Alchemist?", he asked. Suddenly everyone looked at Xion.

"Um..no?", she gave a nervous reply.

"Are you sure?", he asked.

Xion thought for a while and then replied with a 'yes'.

"Gee where did that come from?", Denny asked.

"I was just wondering. Alphonse Elric also lost his memory, remember?", Armstrong replied.

Suddenly a loud noise came from a distance followed by several other small, but loud noises. Xion quickly rushed to the window just as the sirens went off. At that very moment a young man barged through the door. "Sir we're under attack", he yelled. Everything happened so fast. Within a second everyone was running out of the room, more explosions were heard. Armstrong was already out of the door.

"Don't leave this room okay?", Ross yelled at Xion as she pulled out a pistol and left the room after everyone else.

Xion looked outside. It was still dusk, but that was not important. Outside several men ran around, taking cover and shooting at the incoming creatures. They looked a lot like the Heartless, but something was different. They were much taller, they had strange tentacles for arms and they could transform those tentacles into different weapons. Some had swords, some had guns and some were simply running at the soldiers like maniacs, hoping to slash them with their long tentacles. Xion noticed a strange symbol, that she did not recognize, on their chests. She had fought creatures much worse than this, but somehow this seemed to scare her a little.

Xion left the room. The corridors were nearly empty so she quickly exited the building and soon realized it was a bad idea. A tank exploded not far from her, stray bullets flew over her head, more explosions, more screams. The chances of someone who had never even seen a gun before, surviving in this battlefield were low. Nevertheless she proceeded.

Several civilians ran from the area as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, one of them, a little girl, tripped. Even more unfortunately, one of the creatures spotted her and began to walk towards her along with two others. Their long tentacles flapping around. The little girl looked at them, terrified. Suddenly Xion appeared in between them. A smirk on her face confused the creatures for a while. She jerked her arm to summon her Keyblade. But something went wrong. Her hand was still empty! The smirk on her face disappeared.

Roy Mustang spotted her as he fought the creatures using his well known 'Flame Alchemy'."Maria, Havoc, do something about HER before she gets herself killed", he yelled. Maria saw Xion as one of the creatures hit her. Xion fell down, she jerked her arm again, but still, no Keyblade!

"Xion!", Maria yelled as Havoc fired a bullet that tore through one of the creatures' head.

"One down, two to go", Havoc said to himself.

A stray bullet came and went through Havoc's arm. "Damn it!", he yelled. Maria quickly shot at one of the creatures as she attempted to get closer. She managed to kill it, but the other one had gotten too close. Xion stared at it in horror. It's eyes were not yellow like that of the Heartless, but they looked like human eyes, except, they were bigger and red. It's face was quite horrific. The symbol on it's chest glowed and one of it's tentacles turned into a sword.

"No, Xion!", came Maria's voice from a distance. The creature raised it's sword, ready to strike. Suddenly a bolt of lightning cut through it and the creature exploded.

Maria stopped, looking relieved. At the same time, the others had managed to destroy most of the attacking creatures and only a handful now remained.

"Ah, I see the Lightning Alchemist has arrived", Armstrong exclaimed as Roy burned another creature behind him.

"She could've come earlier", Roy commented and returned to fighting the remaining creatures.

"Winry", Maria said.

"Are you two okay?", asked the blonde-haired girl, who had just saved Xion's life.

"Uh..yeah", Xion replied, still recovering from her shock.

Without another word she ran into the battle field and joined Roy and Armstrong, summoning bolts of Lightning every time she snapped her fingers. After one last shell fired from a tank, the battle was won.

"Daddy!", the little girl next to Xion yelled as she ran towards an old man coming out of the alley in search of his daughter. Xion got up and looked around. There were blotches of black liquid everywhere, but, to her surprise, the creatures hadn't caused much damage to the city, except for the awful smell coming from there bodies and the destroyed tank. Although it seemed like an hour to Xion, the battle was over in just a few minutes.

Lt.Ross approached Xion and slapped her. "I told you not to leave!", she yelled.

"I'm sorry... i thought I could fight them", Xion replied weakly.

"Fight them!?Your sorry!? You nearly got yourself killed!". Maria took a deep breath to calm herself down."You need to understand, it's not safe for you to run around like this", she said calmly.

"I'm sorry, I won't do it again", Xion assured her.

"Good. Now get back to the office and wait there, alright?", she ordered and then left.

Xion looked at her hand. "What....went wrong?", she said to herself as though expecting the Keyblade to simply pop up and tell her why it didn't come.

Chapter 4: An Odd Flashback

Earlier...

Xion stood on a large circular platform(station of serenity), confused. The platform was very different from what she was expecting. It was like a large piece of art in the middle of absolute nothingness that she was standing on. There was a picture of her on the platform with Destiny Islands in the background.

In front of her picture there were three small circles, each holding a picture of people she recognized. From top to bottom the first was of Roxas, the next was of Axel and the last was of Riku.

"What is this place?", Xion asked herself. A small burst of light and her keyblade appeared, floating in mid-air, not far from her. Next to the keyblade another object appeared, although much smaller than the keyblade,Xion immediately recognized it- a seashell that she had picked up on her first trip to the beach with her best-friends and kept with her at all times.

"You have a choice...." ,came a strange voice in Xion's head. She looked around. There was no one around. "...choose between the Key of power and the Shell...", came the voice again.

Xion looked at both objects. There really wasn't much to think about, she knew what she wanted. She walked and grabbed the seashell. The keyblade disappeared. "...you deny the Key for a mere seashell..?", came the voice, but it still sounded calm and warm.

"This is more than just a seashell!", Xion replied angrily.

The seashell suddenly started to become brighter till it was a beautiful glowing light. The light floated and entered Xion's chest. "What just..happened?", Xion wondered. A burst of flames and the Keyblade reappeared, this time in her hand.

"..the Keyblade exists for those who are pure of heart...".

"Heart?", Xion asked, but got no response. Everything started to fade out and the next thing she knew she woke up in an alley....

Xion opened her eyes and got up. She just realized she had gone to sleep clutching the seashell in her hand. The morning sunlight entered the room through the window. she got out of bed and began to walk towards the door when she noticed her reflection in the mirror attached to the cupboard. Her hair had gotten a bit longer and reached her shoulders. She heard someone talking outside and exited the room.

"Oh, hey. Your awake. How're you feeling?", asked one of the two girls standing by the table.

"Pretty good... Sheska, right?", Xion asked.

"Yep and this is my friend Winry", she replied gesturing towards her blonde-haired friend who sat on the table sipping a cup of coffee. Xion noticed there were several books on the table, one of which was clearly being read by Winry.

"Hey, you're the girl from last night, right?", Winry asked.

"Last night?", Xion wondered. Flashbacks of the previous night raced into her mind. How the creatures looked like. How they walked. How the keyblade didn't appear when she needed it. And most importantly, how she had almost gotten killed by one of the creatures."Oh, right. Why were those things attacking everyone?", Xion asked.

"I don't know yet", Winry replied.

Sheska poured Xion a cup of coffee.

"Um..thank you", Xion said as she took the cup. She looked at the coffee wondering what it would taste like. She took a sip. It was hot, but pretty good.

"May I take a look at this?" Xion asked Winry, gesturing to a small book with the words "Introduction to Alchemy" written on the cover.

"Sure go ahead". Xion picked up the book and began reading. She wanted to know what an alchemist was and why Armstrong thought she was one. She found it quite interesting and spent the next few hours glued to the book.

Chapter 5: The Note

Winry had left the apartment a few hours ago and gone to the 'State Library' to "do more research". Sheska too had left only a few minutes ago to get some groceries, leaving Xion alone in the house, still busy reading "Introduction to Alchemy". Xion had now changed back into her cloak after thanking Sheska for lending Xion her clothes for the night. Though Sheska asked Xion to wear something more fashionable she insisted on wearing the cloak.

So far Xion had read most of the book and now had a much better understanding of Alchemy. However, since this was a world where Alchemy was common, her knowledge on the subject was little more than that of the average ten-year old. Xion put the book on the table. "This still doesn't answer why Louis thought I was an alchemist!", she exclaimed.

"It could have something to do with that guy he mentioned...Alphonse, I think", Xion thought. She knew what an alchemist was, how alchemy was done and how a transmutation circle was made. But what made Armstrong think she was an Alchemist?. She immediately forgot about it when a question popped into her head:"Why am I here?".

Xion pulled out the seashell from her pocket and looked at it."I hope they're both alright", she mumbled to herself. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed a few sheets on the desk. The topic immediately caught her attention. On top were the words "Parallel World...?" written in big, bold letters. They were full of handwritten notes, drawings of transmutation circles, a number of different calculations here and there and a separate document was attached to the notes by a paper clip. Xion picked up the notes and began reading.

............................................................................. Parallel World...?

"There's definitely no doubt about the existence of a parallel world. Several Alchemists who have tried Human transmutation claim to have confronted a large Gate(Details present in Dr. Fritz Wendell's theory). What's most interesting is that everyone who has seen the Gate claims that the Darklings look just like the creatures they saw in the Gate. Further research confirms that a parallel world exists beyond the Gate. There is a good chance that, that is where the Elric brothers are.

After the Flying Fortress incident it was discovered that the two parallel worlds could be easily connected if the Gate was opened from both worlds. On that same day it was decided that while Edward would return to the parallel world to destroy the Gate form there, Roy Mustang would do the same in this world. Unfortunately this did not seem to close the Gate and has now resulted in some sort of war with the Darklings. It is still not known whether these creatures have a leader or not. However since their attack patterns seem to be very useless they most likely have no leader.

So far not a single experiment has been done on any of them, because their bodies quickly evaporate a few minutes after death and capturing one alive is almost impossible.

Xion then saw a number of different calculations and alchemic drawings.

Posted Image

Since they were too advanced for Xion she turned over the page.

"Dr. Fritz Wendell is among the top Alchemy-scientists. He has presented a theory on the Gate and the parallel world."

Xion unfolded the attached document. It was not handwritten like the previous notes, but some parts were underlined. She began reading:

"What happens when an Alchemist uses Taboo Alchemy to restore a loved one back to life? Many such Alchemists claim to have arrived in front of a large Gate where they saw "The Truth". Knowledge of a parallel world that gives them the ability to perform Alchemy without the need for a Transmutation circle. Many of them have also lost a part of their body in their attempt. Not only that, but their attempt to revive the dead also ends up as a failure.

What happens to their body parts? Simple, they are taken by the creatures that live inside the Gate! It is clear that someone had opened the Gate from the parallel world in an attamept to enter ours. In this attempt they had not only allowed the Darklings to travel around outside the Gate, but have now opened a permanent entry point that cannot be closed so easily. This is well supported by "Miguel's World Theory".

There is still much to learn about the Underground City and I have no doubt that it is the only place where the Gate can be closed from. The Darklings are violent creatures. Even when the Gate was not opened, they would show their violence and greed by stealing the body parts of all those who came in front of them. I believe that they attack our world so that they can steal people's body parts and use them as their own.

Since the Darklings never attack during the day it can be assumed that they cannot fight against light. Also, since the Gate is open it means that our fellow parallel world is also facing the same enemy.

I now conclude my theory with a simple statement : 'The Gate can only be closed from both sides. Destroying them will only bring more harm rather than good'."

Xion put down the notes. "So that's what I'm here to do...."

Chapter 6: Horror Floats In The Sky

Xion put the documents back on the able just in time to hear a knock on the door. She opened it and Winry stepped in holding a few, very thick books."You're going to read all of that?", Xion asked.

"Yeah", Winry replied as she settled the books down on the table. Now there were enough books on the table to start a brand new bookshop , as long as the table didn't collapse from the weight of the books.

"Where's Sheska?", Winry asked.

"Oh, she went grocery shopping".

Winry didn't reply, she simply opened one of the books, took a deep breath and began reading.

Xion simply walked around looking around the house for sometime, when she noticed a picture hanging on the wall.

"Hey, Winry. Who are those guys with you in the picture?", she asked.

Winry looked toward Xion, then the picture and smiled a bit. "Those are my friends, Edward and Alphonse. We grew up together", she replied.

"Oh...", Xion simply said looking at the picture, not noticing that Winry had gotten up.

"So, Xion, what about your friends?", Winry asked.

"Oh, I..uh..", Xion stammered as flashbacks flew into her head. How they all sat together to have ice-cream after each mission. How Roxas and Axel meant everything to her. And how they had all been torn apart. The question was like a painful reminder of what she had lost.

Xion turned her head back towards the picture. "I..don't remember", was all she said.

Suddenly there was a small clicking noise behind her.

(http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGLT1zSc23E)

Xion turned around just in time to see a gun in Winry's hand, being pointed at her.

"You can drop the act, Xion!", Winry said fiercely.

"What?...Act?", Xion stammered in panic. Her eyes widened, her heart beating at full speed-something she had never experienced before.

"You think you could fool me with your fake Amnesia? Well I've seen someone who's lost his memory and you seem too normal as compared to him!".

"What? No..I...your making a mistake", Xion tried to say whatever came to mind.

"Who are you spying for?".

"What are you talking about?".

"You got awfully close to HQ, and now you're in the same apartment as someone who's in the Military! Would have been a pretty good plan if I hadn't noticed!".

"What? I'm not here to do anything!", Xion tried to explain.

"Well I guess you're not gonna tell me anything then".

Suddenly there was a large tremor that shook the entire house and perhaps, the city. Both, Xion and Winry fell. The gun slipped out of Winry's hand. The tremor stopped. "What's going on!?", Xion yelled.

Two small, bright purple portals appeared on the ceiling a few feet away from her and a Darkling popped out of each of them. The same as before, red eyes, unusually tall, awful smell and the glowing, purple alchemic symbol on their chest. They approached the duo with their long tentacles moving about. Winry immediately picked up her gun and shot one a few bullets at one of them. The Darkling quickly fell to the floor. The other managed to get close and knocked the gun out of her hand and threw Winry aside with it's other tentacle. It turned towards Xion and began to approach her. Xion got out of the way, just in time to avoid being lashed by it's tentacle. She quickly picked up a frying pan in the kitchen and threw it at it's face. The Darkling made an ugly noise as it took a few steps back. IN the mean time, Winry was back on her feet and quickly snapped her fingers. A bolt of Lightning struck it and the Darkling exploded into several small pieces.

Xion approached the other Darkling. It's body was evaporating, just as the document in Winry's notes said. Then came the sounds of alarms going off followed by several explosions. "You stay here!", Winry ordered and then ran out of the door. Xion ignored and followed her.

After running for sometime they both stopped and looked up at the horrific sight.

A giant Darkling, bigger than a two-storey building, floating in the sky. It had three heads in different places and several tentacles at least twenty times bigger than that of a normal Darkling. Each tentacle had a large, purple Alchemic symbol. There were small canons on it's body, each canon shot explosives wherever it could. It was truly a nightmare

Nonetheless Winry rushed to the battlefield while Xion stayed behind. Xion could see the battlefield from where she stood, destroyed tanks and dead soldiers covered the battlefield, soldiers constantly fired as many bullets at it as possible. One young man tried to run across it in panic and tripped and one of the three heads saw him. A large tentacle covered him as he let out a loud, agonizing scream. The tentacle soon left and returned to attacking the troops. All that was left in that poor man's place was blood. Xion covered her mouth with her shaky hands to keep herself from screaming. She couldn't bare to watch this. She clutched her beloved seashell. "Riku, Roxas, Axel...somebody.... please, help me!", echoed the words in her mind. Suddenly a large flash of light and for once, something good happened. She had exactly what she needed.

Meanwhile Winry reached the battlefield to find Roy Mustang and Louis Armstrong in the front line, making proper use of their alchemy to destroy the creatures tentacles. From what she could tell, they had been successful in taking out two of it's tentacles. Unfortunately there were several other Darklings across the battlefield. She snapped her fingers and sent bolts of lightning at a few of them and then did the same with the large, floating Darkling.

The Darkling, shot at her with it's canons, but she immediately jumped out of the way. She was soon helped up by Armstrong.

"Thanks", she said.

"Always a pleasure to help", Armstrong replied, smiling.

"If you're not to busy, maybe you could take care of them", Mustang spoke, gesturing towards the other, smaller Darklings approaching from another direction.

"Alright", Winry rushed to attack them. Striking them with lightning bolts, and even engaging them in Close combat where necessary.

The smaller Darklings were finished in a matter of seconds, but the large one was far from defeat. It continued pounding it's huge tentacles everywhere, shooting explosives from it's canons. Winry noticed it's large red-eyes and got an idea. She looked around and found Havoc just as she hoped for.

"Havoc, I think I know where to hit it!", she said.

"That's great kid, why don't you hurry up and do it then?", he replied, taking another shot at it with his sniper rifle.

"Because I need your help!".

"Alright, what is it?".

"I'm going to go distract it, once that's done, I want you to shoot it in the eye, okay?".

"Alright".

Winry quickly ran a few feet away from him and then shot a bolt of Lightning at one of the Alchemic symbols on the Darkling's tentacles. To her surprise it seemed to not only distract it, but also managed to do some damage. One of it's heads turned towards her and a large tentacle came towards her. Winry dodged it and, just as planned, Havoc shot it in one of it's eyes. The Darkling let out a very loud, ugly noise which echoed over the whole city.

It quickly turned all it's heads and canons towards Havoc and Winry. "Aw crap!", Havoc exclaimed as he and Winry quickly ran from their positions to avoid the large tentacles and canons being aimed at them. One of the explosives landed too close to Winry and caused her to fall. The sound of the explosion had caused a ringing sound in her ears which made it nearly impossible to hear anything else.

Winry looked around, her ears still ringing. Soldiers ran across the battlefield, tanks exploded. The sounds of people screaming appeared very faint. "Fall back!", came a very distant voice followed by a few more explosions. Suddenly she noticed a cloaked figure jumping off a nearby building behind the Darkling, holding two strange weapons.

Xion landed on the back of the Darkling, holding her two keyblades( Oathkeeper and Way to Dawn http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/happy.png ) in her hands as she rushed towards the canons mounted on the creatures back. A few hits and she destroyed, four of the five canons causing the creature to let out that ugly noise again. Xion swiftly dodged the incoming tentacles and shot a few fireballs at one of the heads. On seeing the Darkling being distracted, the soldiers stopped retreating and continued to shoot at the Darkling. Havoc took the opportunity to shoot two more of it's eyes.

The Darkling jerked it's body and flung Xion into the sky. "Perfect", Xion thought. She quickly recovered and went back down towards the Darkling, pointing one of her Keyblades downwards as a white flame began to cover it.

Xion flew right into it with her Keyblades and huge explosion occurred. Within seconds the entire area -and everyone in it- was covered with black goo and a terrible smell. Soldiers rejoiced at the victory, as soon as they got used to the smell.

Xion emerged out of the middle of the field, covered in goo. "Ugh..disgusting!", she exclaimed, wiping off some of the goo.

"Xion!", came a familiar voice. It was Lt. Maria. " How did you do that?", she asked.

"It's a long story", Xion replied simply.

Xion talks to Armstrong..?!

Roy Mustang's in it!

Havoc and Winry aren't being completely useful in a fight.

This is excellent. All i'ld want to see now are HOMUNCULI

Chapter 7: The Ones Behind It All

"It looks like they've been planning this for a while", came a faint voice.

"I know. Damn it, we should've seen this coming!", came another voice, but slightly louder than the first.

Xion slowly opened her eyes, she was still feeling a bit weak. She was lying down on a portable bed in a large tent with several other beds. Most of these beds were occupied by injured soldiers.

There were a few bandages on her arm and forehead. She wasn't wearing her cloak, but was wearing a military uniform instead.

"She's awake", said a brown-haired man in a lab coat standing next to who were clearly Lt. Maria Ross, Major Armstrong, Lt.Hawkeye, Havoc and Roy Mustang.

"What happened. Where am I?", Xion asked as she slowly got up. Her right arm was aching a bit.

"You don''t remember?", Maria asked.

"Um...well there was an attack, right?", Xion tried to recall.

"Yes, there was. Far greater than any we faced before. You got injured and lost consciousness while fighting off the Darklings. Luckily Lt.Hawkeye pulled you out before we retreated", Armstrong informed her.

"Retreated?", Xion wondered.

"We had to leave Central. There were too many and we didn't have enough reinforcements", Mustang answered. Xion thought for a while. She was certainly starting to remember what had happened in the attack.

"What about Winry?", she asked.

"She still hasn't woken up", Maria replied.

"Oh...so where are we now?", Xion asked.

"Resembool", Armstrong replied. Xion got up and off the bed.

"Is there any plan to take back Central?", she asked Armstrong.

"We're working on it,but first we need to know what happened before the attack began", he replied.

"We know that you and Winry were present in the Underground City before the attack. We'd like to know what happened", Hawkeye spoke with a rather serious look on her face.

"I...uh".

"Tell us what happened, Xion", Armstrong spoke.

Xion sighed as she tried to remember. "You're not going to believe me", she told them.

"We're being attacked by strange creatures that appeared out of an unknown gate and have now taken over Central, killing over a hundred soldiers and injuring many more. I'm sure whatever you say isn't going to be very hard to believe now tell us what happened!", Maria demanded.

"Could you give us some privacy, doctor?", Armstrong asked. The doctor nodded and left.

Xion began to explain, first by confessing that she had lied about her memory and actually remembered everything, then she told them about the Organization XIII and her time there. Everyone except Armstrong looked irritated while Lt.Ross was enraged.

"IS THIS A JOKE TO YOU!?", she yelled.

"I'm not joking! It's true!", Xion tried to convince her.

"Lieutenant, calm down. Let's listen to what she has to say", Armstrong spoke.

Maria clenched her fists."Yes sir", she said reluctantly.

Xion took a deep breath and continued. She left out the details about her friendship and how she died - as a matter of fact she never even mentioned her death and instead made up a completely different reason for how she had arrived in Amestris. The story was sounding bizarre enough already and so lying was a necessity.

"And what does this have to do with the question?", Maria asked, still outraged.

"I was making sure you would understand what I'm about to say next", Xion replied. The expression on Armstrong's face went from looking serious to looking interested.

Xion took a deep breath and began to tell them about the incident prior to the attack.

A day earlier....

Xion and Winry, both wearing the standard military uniforms, were standing near a large Transmutation circle in the Underground City. "This could be it. The gate that connects this world to the other one", Winry examined. There was a bit of blood on it and the circle was quite damaged.

"I think I know how to open it", Xion spoke.

"Honestly you keyblade wielders can be such a nuisance sometimes", came a mysterious voice.

"Who's there?", Winry asked as the two immediately got up and started looking around. Not far from them a dark portal opened and a man in a black cloak similar to Xion's stepped out. He removed the hood to reveal a familiar blue-haired man with an unforgettable "X" marked on his face.

"S-Saix?!B-but how!?", Xion stammered.

"Saix? No, my name is Sadism. You see, after Sora managed to defeat Saix, he was reborn in the place he first became a Heartless and was sent to this world to carry out a certain part of our Master's plan", he explained, his face just as cold and emotionless as Saix's.

"Your Master? ....Xemnas?".

"No....him", he said pointing to a figure that appeared out of a dark portal.

A bald old man, with golden eyes and an evil smile that struck horror, stepped out of the portal. Xion summoned her Keyblade.

"You...you're the one behind these Darklings aren't you?!", she spoke to him.

"Don't waste your time. This is just a fake", Saix told her as the old man suddenly transformed into an ordinary Darkling."Unfortunately the real Master Xehanort could not be here today".

Winry squinted at a familiar mark on his cheek. Her eyes widened."Y-you're a Hormunculus!", she exclaimed.

"Indeed I am. You see, there are three versions of everyone, scattered throughout different worlds. There was a version of Isa in this world. The one that you knew as part of the Organization came to this world and killed my original self. Using a bunch of worthless Dusks for equivalent exchange, he successfully used Alchemy to bring me back and assigned me a task. I had to cover this world and it's parallel in Darkness, while my other self helped our Master cover all the other worlds in Darkness. So I came across a woman known as Dante and offered my assistance to her in her attempt to forge the Philosopher's stone."

"What?! You were part of that!?", Winry asked.

"Part of that? The Organization was practically behind it! Some of the Hormunculi had already been created by desperate people looking to revive their loved ones, while the rest were created by the Organization! Greed, Pride, Gluttony were created by us while the rest were simply found by Dante. Dante brought them together and controlled them, while I controlled her.

Most of our plan was going well, until some of them began to develop pitiful emotions. And then there came the Elric brothers."

Winry's eyes widened."What do you know about them?",she asked.

"Well, they were really meddlesome , I can tell you that. When the Philosopher's stone was finally created I was ready to take it, but unfortunately it was lost when that stupid kid tried to bring back his dead brother. I was certainly angered and my Master was not very amused either. So you can imagine my joy when I realized that the gate had been opened from the other world!", Sadism gave an evil grin.

"And now, I can use these creatures to cover this world with Darkness and the Organization XIII's will come one step closer to their true goal; the formation of The X-blade(keyblade)!".

"The keyblade?", Xion looked at the Oathkeeper in her hand.

"Not that stupid toy you ill-informed puppet!", he said.

"Hey! Just where the hell do you get off calling her a puppet?!", Winry spoke furiously.

"That is what she is...or was. Isn't that right?", he asked Xion.

"Huh?", Winry looked at Xion.

Xion clenched her teeth. "Shut up!", she yelled and ran towards him.

He immediately made a simple hand gesture and a large Obelisk burst out of the ground in front of her. Xion immediately stopped as a four more Obelisks popped out of the ground at different places around the Transmutation circle.

The transmutation circle began to glow and repair itself as purple lightning emerged from it and connected to the top of each obelisk.

Sadism began to float into the air . He raised his hands and the purple lightning formed a large circle."Now witness the Darkness as it takes over this world!", he yelled.

Xion took several steps back.Suddenly a huge beam of purple light shot out of the Transmutation circle and through the roof, then out into the sky over Central.

Tremors shook the city as people rushed out of their homes and soldiers began to take position suspecting another attack. "Xion we have to get out of here and warn the others!", Winry yelled as several Darklings began to emerge out of the purple beam. Xion nodded and the two ran.

By the time they got to the surface several huge Darklings, most of which had never been seen before were attacking Central. There was gunfire and explosions everywhere along with screams coming from people running away.

"And then we fought them until we were knocked out", Xion concluded. There was silence for a while.

Armstrong and Mustang did not say a word. "An...eighth H-Hormunculus!?", Maria exclaimed.

"Those rats! They were behind all of it!", Havoc exclaimed.

"Be ready to move out in three hours", Roy Mustang announced and left the tent. Armstrong, Havoc and Hawkeye followed, leaving Xion and Maria alone.

"I'm sorry that I lied", she said to Maria politely.

"J-just get yourself ready", Maria replied bitterly and left. Xion sighed.
