Have I found a plot hole? *Minor Spoilers*

Posted

Ok, so we know in BBS Pete is banished to someplace (can't think of the name) and Maleficent helps him escape. Keep in mind this is 10 years before KH2. Note: The next 3 sentences don't have anything to do with the topic, just something I found interesting Now lets fast forward to KH, in Villains Vale we never see, or hear Pete. Nobody ever mentions his existence and you would think he would be there with all the other villains. I just find it odd how he is absent here. End of randomness, now back to the topic. In KH2 Pete is trying to create an army of Heartless for Maleficent, and to turn Yen SId into a heartless. He reveals this when Sora and friends arrive at the Mysterious Tower. My question is, how does Pete not know Maleficent has been vanquished? I mean I don't think Pete is smart enough to come up with a plan like that, so I would think Maleficent ordered him to do it, since she hates doing things herself, but how could she do it if she was dead? This is something I've been wondering since yesterday and I just want to know the answer. And please don't respond with rude replies, if I said incorrect things let me know in a manner that isn't hostile and I will change it, thanks.

EDIT: Also could you guys please check out my other topic? http://kh13.com/forum/topic/39670-kh2fm-limited-mushroom-help/?do=findComment&comment=779861 It only has one reply and has been up for about a day and I really need help on it. Also I don't think people will reply to it on their own since it's buried in the forums now...

I don't remember the exact wording, but I figured it to be that Maleficent pulled Pete out of the RoD before she... well, got whacked, obviously. During that time, Pete was out amassing his Heartless army, so he wasn't around when she bought the farm. Of course, it still took him a year to find out... no explaining that...

Theory A - His reaction if kind of double-sided, IIRC. He acts all shocked but later when he goes to Villains Vale he says to himself "Maybe they did finish her off" or something. Maybe he had heard but didn't believe it?

Theory B - Being pretty worthless, Maleficent sent him out to collect hearts after she formed the Bad Guy Council Thing and so he goes out and collects hearts in different worlds. Later he becomes DELUDED enough to believe he can turn Yen Sid (who's probably famous in the KH universe) into a Heartless. Then he finds out his boss is dead.

Theory C - It's a plothole and there's no way Pete could go a year without finding out his boss got killed.

Well isn't the RoD like all black with those gray masses everywhere? The Place Pete was looked like the real between but I dunno. And how could Minnie transport Pete there? Even for Pete it's a bit harsh. and I don't think someone like Minnie could do such a dark thing.

Not ot mention that in KH2, Goofy said that Mickey banished Pete. Discontinuity is abound, amico. Don't strain yourself on it!

In BBS Minnie banishes Pete to someplace (Looks like the lanes between). Maybe he was banished twice? Idk

I have question about Pete as well. How in the world did that door that allowed Sora to go to Timeless River just suddenly popped out of the blue in Pete's possession?

Idk. Maybe since he wanted to go to the past so badly he got it?

Nomura logic.

actually i think merlin explained it as a door that only appears to people have need of it, or something to that effect.

I was always under the impression that Pete had been traveling around apart from Malificent to make heartless, I think he says something like that during the first meating with Sora and gang at Yen Sids.

Then that would explain the plot hole, but he would have to be alone for 1 year with no contact to Maleficent during that time

pete's actually a bit of a tough cookie. he may not be very smart, but he does pack a punch.

Pete was most likely was ordered to simply "seek out those with strong hearts" It stands to reason the the stronger a persons heart is the more darkness it can hold before becoming a heartless. More darkness=stronger heartless. Since Yen Sid was a former Keyblade wilder, and a former Master at that, his heart was exceptionally strong and the heartless he would have created could have been extremely powerful.

Pete, being, so thick-headed probably wouldn't have given much thought to not having heard for Maleficent for a year and likely didn't believe that someone as powerful as her could have been defeated by a brat and two of the kings flunkies.

Pete's "banishment" was more like a "time out" and was probably meant to be temporary. Minnie most likely planed to let him out but when she tried she must have sensed that he was already gone and probably assumed that Mickey had seeen fit to release him early.

As for the discrepancy regarding who actually banished him , it could be a translation error I know that "O-Sama" is Japanese for "king" and I can only assume that the word for "queen" is phonetically similar, leading to some confusion during the dubbing process.

Sora_Kuno is right, it's a translation error. They were using gender neutral words in Japanese, just like Roxas' "Why did he choose you?!" when he meant "it", it being the keyblade.

Oh I thought Roxas was talking about Axel since he chose to save Sora rather than bring back Roxas. I also used to think Roxas meant the Keyblade 'till I read about the Axel thing and thought that made more sense.

Me: "Nomura-san, What did Roxas mean when he said "he"? Was he referring to the Keyblade or Axel?"

Nomura: "That's up to that player. (laughs)

Me: DAMN IT NOMURA! ITS BEEN 6 YEARS! GIVE US A STRAIGHT ANSWER ALREADY!
