Recently, i've been playing KH1 again and...

It's kind of jarring with DDD so fresh on my mind.

KH has become a completely different beast since its inception...

The game is much slower paced... and there are tonnes of optional bits... NPCs everywhere by comparison to later games... the combat is so much more strategic... Donald and Goofy die every other second...

Keyblades are handed out at meaningful intervals, and don't just arbitrarily appear at the end of a world

Disney is actually a factor

Sora is actually smart, and capable of putting two and two together.

It's not that hard IMO. FM is harder but you can skip cutscenes you've already seen there.

Was going to say this, and it's doubly so in Expert Mode.

 

Also, the fixed requirements for the secret ending is the same in each mode. Granted in KH there are two, but still it's nice to know that you're going after the same objective in each mode, just at a harder difficulty.

Aero and Donald's Second Chance and Second Wind abilities saved my butt in the Captain Hook fight.

Not necessarily just that a lot of the things that happened in KH1 he slightly forgets in KH2 because some of the things were still a bit distant to him after what happened in CoM. But he's also lacks in the ability to observe by time this happens.

I feel so sorry for sorry in the more recent games, every one thinks of him like he's got mental disabilities being so slow and all

In the first game he seems a lot more sharper.
