I am thinking about volunteering at an anime convention next year.

I have never gone to any anime/video game/comic convention.

Why do people go to cons?

More specifically, why do YOU want to go to a con?

What is fun there?

Actually the only thing that attracts me to go to a convention is a chance to meet some webcomic artists, so hopefully volunteering at one will allow me the chance

What convention?

I've been to 5 conventions and they're pretty fun. I go to cosplay and meet new people and make friends and geek out. It's a pretty interesting experience

I am going to one on Friday~

I go because everything I want to buy is all in one place with no shipping or handling.

And I like entering the art contests.

Cosplaying is fun.

Some of the speakers are actually interesting.

But mostly because people watching is HILARIOUS.

I've never been to one, but I think the idea of being surrounded by the things you love and other people that love the things you love is just an attractive setting.

What convention?

I dunno. One in the western US.

I'm not big into anime anymore and I haven't played video games in a long time. Perhaps it is because I want to people watch. Partially also because I have never been and I kinda want to say I have been.

I assume it is better to go with friends...

They typically have stuff other than anime at cons too, I've seen Adventure Time and Doctor Who and etc.

Going with friends is probably good too. I went to my second con mostly alone and it sucked

Let me know why you guys want to go conning.

I'm kinda numb to the whole con experience now. The only things I enjoy are the dealers room and voice actor panels...if there are any I know of anyway.

Missed the first con ever in my country -.-

Because my cousin doesn't like cosplayers.

I go to cons mainly to meet people. Its a great experience, plus it's super easy to make friends. Even if it is just for the weekend.

Staffing them is a similar experience. I've staffed 3 cons for the last 3 years. I'm not gonna lie to you. It can get stupid levels of frustrating if there is no synergy throughout the group.

I'd say, if you're going to start to go to cons, don't start out staffing them. If there is no co-operation with the other staffers, then it may ruin the first experience of cons for you. But hey, just my opinion, bro.

Cons are amazing. The voice actors you get to meet, the people, the dealer's room (Oh god the dealer's room @w@), the anime that they show, the panels, every little bit about them can seem overwhelmingly awesome. If you go into a con weekend telling yourself that you're gonna have a good time, chances are you will. Plus, if you're into the whole beer scene, some con attendees (even staffers too) throw the best room parties. Oh the stories I could tell. lol

The best reason to go to a con is to experience a sense of comraderey with people who love the same things you do. After all, that's what a convention is by definition, a gathering of people with similar interests. There's always a little bit of something for everyone, and even if you're not into games or comics, it's still worth going just for the energy present. Also, on a more practical side, there's usually a lot of good speakers and Q&A sessions with professionals, so you can make an educational outing of it.

I really only been to Wonder-Con and Comic-Con...been wanting to go to Anime Expo though for some years now
