Which Final Fantasy do you think is undeserving of its fame? For me its 8.

Funny how everyone says the most popular one is the most overrated one. I guess "overrated" for most people is code for "[X I don't like] is popular and I do not like how popular it is because I do not like it."

 

Well, actually sometimes it is. Do you see how many fanboys VII has produced, even going as far as to say that everything after VII is crap? It's not that I dislike how popular it is because I do like it, it's just that people fall over their heels for it, calling it the "greatest game of all time" when their are other much better things out there. VII was a cool game, I won't deny that, it's just not the best or the most awesome.

Those people need to get a reality check, and claiming their favorite thing is "overrated" isn't the way to do it; saying that will just get them pissed off. "Overrated" is just a shortcut that implies more about the fanbase than the work itself, and a term to make the fans even whinier.

I dunno, saying anything negative about FF7 or saying that something is better will get you a death threat from most people.

Not necessarily. FFVII game out over a decade ago and the hype after its release died down a significant amount. Sure, there are still plenty of fanboys, but there's an increasing number of people taking a more critical look at the game and praising their own personal FFs. It mainly depends on who you're talking two and what kind of community they're in. For instance, there's a good chance praising FFVII in a forum surrounding the old school FFs will leave you nice and crispy.
