During the last two or three years, the F2P (free to play) games have been getting a lot of attention. Most of the F2P gaming is focused on PC, but there has been few for consoles, like DC universe and there is upcoming Dust 514 fps for PS3.

What is your opnion on F2P games? What are your favourites?

My favourite one is without doubt the Team Fortress 2. Gosh it's my first FPS game anyway so it being free is like jackpot for me. It's one of the most balanced online games I have played and it has main focus on team work, which is nice. It also has very orginal looking graphics and map design and musics sound really nice. THe personalities of characters are very cool stereotypic and funny.

So yeah, if you have PC you must play this.

There is some other really cool ones like: Tribes; Ascend, Microvolts (virtual waifu shooter) and Blacklight Retribution.

I think that F2P is really great idea as long as it isn't made to pay to win style game what gives you clear advantages on others if you use your money on it.

Also, it wouldn't be bad idea to make older games to F2Ps, it would give them longer life time and bigger player base.

Also making MMORPGs to F2P isn't bad idea, the Star Wars Old Rebublic is going to change to F2P soon aswell. It looks really nice game and I'm definitely going to play it once it's free.

No the F2P game is game that you can play for free, it usually has some stuff you can buy on game though. Like weapon packs or level up packs if you are too lazy to play the game to get them or costumes and all kind of special stuff for your character.

Yes. But what I have heard there is few ones coming for XBOX and for example Dust 514 coming for PS3. F2Ps are currently PC's thing, but I'm confident that consoles are getting them soon.

tht would be cool.

There are some really Good F2P Games like S4 League and Elsword. But it all could be way better if these firetrucking hackers wouldn't exist ~ Also, many F2P Games are focused on "How to make as much money as possible", like S4 League ... At the Beginning it was very Free User friendly, nearly everything was obtainable, but now you have to pay like 100€ (I'm German) to get 1 exclusive Item. That sucks

Too bad I never tried out TF2, seems like a good game.

SO MANY PARODIES OF IT

The problem with most Free to Play games is while they may be free, many of them you have to pay for in order to actually progress or even enjoy the damn game. So the bests are those you don't need to pay a dime for and still have a blast.

1. TF2 would have to be number one. It's fun, has a great community, hilarious characters, surprisingly interesting storyline and is still being frequently updated despite being so old. You can play this game in so many different ways that every time you play is a new experience.

2. Planetside 2, I know it's not officially out yet (the beta was great though) and you need a super computer to play it, damn is it a great game. If you are looking for an MMOFPS this is the best it gets. Think a Battlefield game, but with 2000 player battles on a massive map and amazing customization.

3. Runescape, it's glory-days are long since passed but damn was it fun. You have a fully functional MMO, that can be played entirely for free. There is a membership option that literally triples what you can do but what you can do without paying a cent is enough to keep you entertained for a long time. The game is still going strong so I've heard but it isn't what it used to be, not that the game has gotten bad, far from it and the servers are still heavily populated. It's just that it isn't as popular or frequently updated as it used to be. This is easily seen through youtube. Runescape was one of the first games to have a really huge Machinima community. Popular youtubers such as Kaishi and TehNoobShow made the game even better but they are all gone now, off to do other things with their lives.

Yeah, so called P2W (pay to win) is very annoying in many of F2P games. Or that you must play after going over (x) level and still want to continue.

It's kinda surprising that Star Wars Old Rebublic is going to be F2P, I heard that those who are F2P get level ups slower and their play time ends after lvl 50, but that is the point when you have completed all missions and most of side missions.

TF2 is again great example how you make F2P game, even if you buy things you aren't going to get any advantages over other players, you can buy weapons which you can randomly find or just craft by yourself, or get hats and misc items which, well if you like tuning your character there you go.

I remember older days of runescape used to play so hard that game, now it is full of hackers and annoying people. There is some weird balance changes that just annoy me:/

I would love to play planetside 2, but my computer is nowhere enough powerful to handle it..

Few videos about few F2P games:

little bit more random side of TF2:

Never heard of Microvolts, looks like a Battlefield Heroes but not pay to win.

Tribes ascend is fun too but it's really confusing sometimes.

As an EVE Online player I was really looking forward to DUST 514. Not that I could play it but that I could nuke PS3 players from orbit. Turns out the beta wasn't that great though so I don't know how the game will do.

Microvolts isn't really battlefield heroes, it has same kind of graphics and overall gameplay style, but gunplay has a lot of quake wibe on it. You can carry all of your weapons same time, only way to get health is to kill other players. The game is fun, but map design is kinda bad

Yeah I saw the video those maps looks pretty horrid but I think the game looks fun.

Looking forward to Planetside 2. Hey! Lets make a squad and conquer the whole world!

There is also Blacklight: Retribution and the recently added, Gotham City Impostors but sadly no dedicated servers.

Oh yeah, I forgot the Blacklight!

Good game, now that I think about it, Black Ops 2 is very similar to blacklight's graphics and gameplay.

I haven't played Gotham City Impostors myself, but it looks kinda nice
