Kamiya: Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 will always remain Wii U Exclusive

Video game designer at Platinum Games, Hideki Kamiya, has revealed that both Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101 will be, and always will be, Wii U exclusives.

In a tweet, translated by NeoGAF, Kamiya said:

"We're a development company...Nintendo gives us money, we make Bayonetta 2 and W101, and they sell it...So if Nintendo says 'We're putting Bayonetta 2 on PS360' it'll come out on those platforms...So ask Nintendo about it"...

So unless Nintendo become a 3rd party, Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 will always remain Wii U Exclusives.

Before anyone mentions Mass Effect 1 exclusivity thing, let me say this:

Mass Effect is a Bioware IP. That made it exclusive to Microsoft while they owned Bioware but EA bought the IP with the developer, thus allowing them to release it on different platforms. This is a completely different situation with Platinum working as a second-party developer.

To sum up:

  • Bioware were a first-party studio that became third-party and took some of their IP with them. (For a Nintendo example see Rare and Banjo Kazooie).
  • Platinum are an independent studio that has their projects funded by external publishers, in this case Nintendo. Second-party developers can make deals to see their IPs end up with various publishers (as evidenced with Bayonetta) but the publisher who funded the work will have ultimate control over where a specific game is published. In other words, Nintendo own Bayonetta 2 but they do not own the rights to other Bayonetta games.

I don't know about you guys and about how many of you will send death threats to Kamiya, but I'm still happy that Bayonetta 2 was revived after being canceled by Sega

And the Bayonetta franchise wouldn't be alive now if Nintendo didn't step up to fund the development while neither Sony nor Microsoft cared about the Bayonetta franchise at all.

For me,I'm happy,I'm gonna buy a Wii U and these two games will be the first games I bought alongside Wind Waker HD and other exclusives
