De-construction of the USA's Public Education System

Thats because they don't have me as a teacher. They would learn or be frozen.

That's kind of how my school feels

most of my classes involve just sitting and taking notes

It's awful in my history class since after we're done with the current unit it's almost completely forgotten.

And I honestly don't even do a good job simply memorizing xD

So true. I thank you for finding this.

Wow. I agree with this thing so much.

The point this student was making is that more often than not, kids are expected to get good grades and excel and be involved. They focus on getting through with school but not actually learning. Because of this, many students end up simply memorizing rather than learn and push themselves beyond their limits to be involved in everything possible in order to be able to get in a good college. School is no longer about teaching and learning as much as you can, it's about being able to mindlessly follow everything your teachers tell you and memorizing everything they want you to the best. In some cases, that's not completely true (we all have a few teachers that go above and beyond to teach!), but in many, that is the case.

That sounds right to me now as I think about it.
