t appears creating Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix has been significantly more laborious than it needed to be, as the original assets for the game were lost some time ago.

That's according to the title's director Tetsuya Nomura, who made the revelation during a

 discussing the project, as well as Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV.

"Kingdom Hearts 1 was created a long, long time ago, so actually the original data was missing already," he explained. "It was lost, so we had to research, and we had to dig out from the actual game what was available and recreate everything for HD. We had to recreate all the graphics and it was actually not that easy."

So instead of being able to work off the original master assets that were created, the company had to recreate pretty much everything from scratch again. There's a lot more in the video about the process of recreating the game, as well as other titles Square Enix has in development.

No that's not the reason. If you said that was the reason for them releasing it in March then yes, since that was the original version of 1.5 HD ReMIX. For the english version, all they really have to do is just translate everything and make the lips sync.

Lip-sync (for CoM and Days) isn't happening, they're pre-rendered. Would take too much time and money to fix. There was a (supposedly) finished build at E3, so they've apparently completed localisation, they're just waiting for an opportune time to sell.

They remade  the cutscenes for Days, so im sure they'll lip sync that at least. IDK about COM, i hope they do though.

The new cutscenes for Days are pre-rendered just like the original DS voiced cutscenes, someone on FFshrine who extracted the files specifically said so.

So is it technologically impossible for them to have extracted the code from the original game disc?

This is perfectly normal. Not all devs kept the source code to games because they thought they would never need to mess with them again. You could always reverse engineer the game. But that would be unessasry for square because its the same devs remastering it and not a third party like blu point or ...hijixs...

 

Anyway it should be fine for recom since the Osaka team made that for ps2. The only graphical thing I saw missing was sephiroth pillar flames. It's bloom or texture are missing and are just black with no glow.

Its called business. Atleast they funally released something Kingdom Hearts related to the PS3.

Well, this information was already given at E3, but I do agree that it's interesting that that the data for the original game was lost, but hey, Nomura and the team were able to do their best, and we'll get 1.5 and enjoy it to bits while he starts 2.5, which I'm sure he'll announce in the TGS, just you watch. :)

It would seem very lazy of Square not to make the lips sync in the english version when this is an HD Remaster.

I know, i know. They've made it before hand. But still, it really does seem lazy for them not to make the lips sync, especially since IT'S A MOVIE. Its one thing if its cutscenes for a game, but a compilation of scenes into a movie is another. Its all cutscenes, so it does seem lazy really. But i know, its because it'd take alot of money to change that, but who knows? Maybe thats the reason why its taking so long for the English release to come out.

The reason they could do lip-sync for the other games is because the cutscenes were generated in real-time, and therefore easy to alter. Pre-rendered scenes don't allow that.

You guys! The voices didn't sync because the mouthing was in Japanese. They just placed English voices over Japanese mouthing.

As long as the gameplay still remains the same, it's fine with me.
