The Nintendo Entertainment System... The system that revived gaming. The NES has a lot of quick, memorable games. While the storylines were simple, the gameplay was always a blast. Another aspect of the games I've always liked is the music. 8-bit music has always been something that interested me. These simple tunes can convey a lot more than one would expect. So, I've decided to make my second "Top 10" gaming list, this time my 10 favorite tracks from NES games. Now, first of all, a disclaimer. This is my opinion! Some of your favorites might not be on this list. I might have a different musical taste than you. Also, I haven't played every NES game out there. In fact, I haven't even played all that many. There are some songs that I might end up liking more than these ones at some point! Now then, with that out of the way, here are my rules: First rule is one track per game. The second rule is two games per franchise. I probably won't be able to go into much detail in my descriptions though, since I'm far from being a music expert. Now then, with that out of the way, let's begin!
10. Ice Climbers Theme (Ice Climbers)
As with many Nintendo franchises, Super Smash Bros. introduced me to Ice Climbers. The characters were fun to use, and the music was awesome. The 8-bit version of the theme didn't disappoint, either.
9. Palace Theme (Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link)
Having first heard this theme in Melee, I thought it was from a more recent Zelda game. I got Zelda 2 a few days ago, and loved this theme the first time I heard it. It definitely fits Zelda 2's atmosphere, too!
8. Stage 1 (Castlevania)
I got Castlevania for free when Nintendo offered a few free games to people who bought the Internet Channel on the Wii before it became free. The game's music was great, and this track always stood out the most to me.
7. Boss Battle (Kirby's Adventure)
The Kirby series probably has one of my favorite soudtracks. From Kirby's Adventure, my favorite would have to be the boss theme. It's great at pumping the player up for the tough showdown up ahead. (Of course, if there was a version of Dedede's theme used in this game, I'd go with that one. This is used for his battle instead, though)
6. Battle Theme (Final Fantasy)
FFI was my first ever FF game. The battle theme hooked me in. It was intense enough to even work as a boss theme, which worked well since it was the only battle music in the game.
5. Battle 2 (Final Fantasy II)
(I could only find an extended version...)
I'll be honest, I only own the GBA version of FFII. Still, I've heard the NES version of this theme, and I love both versions. It's the final boss theme for the game, and it fits the bill perfectly.
Who doesn't know this one? This has practically become gaming's theme itself. It's impossible to resist this one, it's just so... great.
3. Airship theme (Super Mario Bros 3)
This sounds like absolutely nothing else in one of the 8-bit Mario themes. It's intense, nerve-wracking, and tells you you're in for a tough fight. It's perfect for infiltrating the enemy's heavily defensed base.
2. Overworld (The Legend of Zelda)
Another one of the most iconic themes of gaming. I fell in love with this one the first time I heard it. It's been used in most, if not all Zelda games since, and this is still the most memorable version.
1. Dr Wily's Castle Stages 1+2 (Mega Man 2)
You've taken out Dr. Wily's eight robot minions. You're ready to storm his castle. What plays when you first arrive? This. It's perfect for the beginning of the final showdown with Dr. Wily. Mega Man 2 had an incredible soundtrack already, but this one shines the most.
Well, that's it for my list! It was kinda short, but I really didn't have much to say on these... Well, I've got some ideas for another Top 10, not sure when I'll begin work on that one though. Thanks for reading!
