To protect yourself from the people that get guns illegally.

I understand getting them for protection, and being unable to get them would mean small time criminals wouldn't bother, but people who know someone/have a contact would easily get them illegally meaning that innocent people who did have them for protection are completely and totally defenseless if they come under attack from someone who doesn't care for the law and obtained them illegally.  

Obviously the best and safest option is to destroy all the guns in the world.  But that ain't gonna happen 

 

Though I have to say where I live, even though guns are illegal, people continue their violence with merely other weapons, petrol bombs, bottles, iron knuckles, etc.  I know loads of people who've been raided for stashing bombing equipment for the IRA, and obviously the same occurs for the UDA, they wouldn't tell me obviously since the only Protestant I was close to who was in the UDA is my ex that I no longer talk to.

Hmmmm...maybe,but I still believe its not the best idea to legalise them.Not everybody have guns,I never saw one(Other then a policeman's gun) and allowing people to have them just raise the odds that someone end up being shoot,but that's just my opinion.

 

But,yeah,to protect yourself against people who get them illigally is a good reason to have them,but I'd still never vote to allow the rights for gun in canada.

I just figure the odds don't really get affected that much whether or not guns are legalized. If someone is going to use them for illegal purposes they are more than likely going to get them illegally. And if guns are illegal then the people who need to protect themselves legally are at a disadvantage. But I understand that's your opinion and I'm not going to be like Oh screw you people need guns! I just think that making guns illegal isn't really going to bring down much crime and instead puts innocent people at a higher risk.
