So, unless the search didn't turn up what I was looking for, there isn't a One Piece discussion thread yet. So, I've decided to fix that! Well, feel free to discuss One Piece on here! Keep in mind, not all of us are up to date, so please avoid spoiling us!

^ I'm still not caught up yet, either . But hey, I'm getting closer. Currently in Water 7 manga-wise, and onto Thriller Bark anime-wise (by the end of this week that is, because I'm still watching the anime through Toonami).

 

First off, I'd like to express that I still find it funny that Shulk started this thread despite having zero interest in this series anymore.

 

And second, just because I'm bored, I'd like to rattle off on some more things about the series in general. And again, I'm not caught up, and my prior knowledge to limited to pretty much everything up until the end of the Post-Enies Lobby arc happens. That being said, here we go:

 

 

1) When I first got into the anime, I skipped every filler arc, barring the Buggy and Helmeppo/Coby stories even though really, those aren't filler, so I could catch up in time to watch the anime on Toonami when it starting airing with the Davy Back Fight arc, so essentially I watched from the beginning up to Skypeia. I recently went back to see these arcs for the sake of completion and holy crap on a stick, the anime filler sucks. No really, it does. I hear left and right about the quality of the anime filler and saying how most if not all of it is good enough to be part of the official canon, and that's just ludicrous to me. Not only are all these supposed stories just wastes of time, but they play against the show itself due to the canon material already having suckish pacing as it and TOEI's insistence of only animating a chapter per episode since the beginning. Don't get me started on the whole mini-flashback arc in the middle of Enies Lobby either. IIRC, it was part of an anniversary, but did you really have to just show past footage TOEI? You couldn't have just stuffed all of this into a freaking "Episode Of" special? You already made one for Arlong Park, might as well do it for the other East Blue arcs too. But no, instead we gotta bring the pacing to a screeching halt, reuse the same god damn moments of the Straw Hats thinking about Robin and getting ready to fight CP9 for five straight episodes. Gag me.

 

2) Sanji is definitely my least favorite Straw Hat, Ussop being a close second because of the stint he pulled in Water 7, which I'm still mad about. He's the least developed, least funny, he's too much of an asshole to anybody sans Nami and Robin most of the time, his "rivalry" with Zoro annoys me because Zoro is leagues above him in every way, and his fighting style isn't explained well. But what puts the nail in the coffin for me is his chilvary schtick, showcased greatly with his fight with Kalifa in Enies Lobby. You're telling me this man can't fight a woman because he "simply can't"? Utter bullshit. His nakama should be the highest priority above everything else, just like with the rest of the Straw Hats, and yet he'd rather left Kalifa kick his ass then defend himself. Nami, a woman, even compliments Sanji on this afterwards, even though she had to fill in for him after he got incapacitated. What the hell? This shit shouldn't be praised, it should be used as a device to make Sanji a better character, so that he can drop this white knight crap and learn to care about more than his libido. I'm sure Luffy would kick his ass if he ever saw Sanji puts his "respect" of women over something that's important. But no, let's just stick to status quo because "durr hurr, it's funny because he's a pervert". Ugh.

 

3) And just to make sure this post isn't entirely negative, I'd like to discuss something I do like, something I know a lot of people already know I like, and yes, I'm referring to my waifu Nico Robin. Robin, Robin, Robin, where to begin... let's start with her character arc. Beautifully done. Going from Miss All Sunday in Baroque Works to joining the Straw Hats and seeing her relationship with them tested in Water 7/Enies Lobby all culminating in learning her full backstory, getting a large insight to her character and how she ticks, and finally being rescued and rejoining the Straw Hats. I also like how she brings a different sense of feminine charm to the group compared to Nami, as well as a sense of maturity and intellect, while still being able to be as goofy or strange as the others on occasion, which also allows her to be calm with the rest of the crew even if they screw up or act stupid, unlike Nami who is your typical "never-chills-out" tsundere. And of course, behind Roronoa Zoro, she's my favorite Straw Hat member altogether.

since last posting I've lost patience with waiting for dubs and have watched the last 100+ episodes subbed - currently on the Punk Hazard arc, nearing conclusion

I'm currently all caught up with the manga, and I just need to fangasm some. So if you aren't caught up, then please don't look at the spoiler tag.

 

 

OMG!!!! We fighured out in chapter 818 that the red poneglyphs (or road poneglyphs) are basically a map to show the location of Raftel!!!! X marks the spot and all that!!! I had to take so many brakes while reading it so I could fangirl over the chapter!!!! Seriously, that chapter was just chock full of information regarding the ending of the series! It's really beginning to feel like we're 70% complete.

 

And in chapter 819, Jack returns to Zou!!! And the alliance between the Strawhats, the minks, and the samurai (and ninja)!!!! Gah!!! They're going to fight Kaido together, but first Luffy has to go get Sanji back from Big Mom!!! But it looks like they have to fight Jack first!!!!! There is SO MUCH going on!!!!!
