August 2, 201312 yr Speaking of Portal and Half Life being in the same universe, there's always a major plot hole that bothered me. Portal takes place some time during the events of Half Life, and GLaDOS makes a reference to the invasion as she tries to convince you to stop killing her (and die to the nuerotoxin). She says something along the lines of "I'm the only thing standing in between us and them." "Them" being the Combine. Assuming GLaDOS wasn't lying, how come the Combine didn't destroy/loot Aperture Science? Chell created a nasty hole in the ceiling, they would easily be able to enter without GLaDOS to stop them and they have plenty of reason to enter because of Apertures advanced Portal technology, AI technology, and Robotics technology. Even though Aperture is in disrepair in Portal 2, that's only because of the years that have gone by (several hundred thousand of them to be exact). However, once GLaDOS get's back online she is able to restore the place to it's former glory in about an hour. Clearly the Combine didn't enter facility as it's pretty much intact. Even when it's in disrepair, the robot factory is still operating as well as most of the AI systems, stasis fields, testing chambers, and the main reactor. I know it's probably not really a big deal, but that plot hole has always been bugging me. Unless there's another force at work in Aperture that was able to keep the Combine out (ratman?), they should of completely taken over the facility and looted it's technology.

Well, Portal takes place almost directly after the original Half-Life, before the combine became a problem. The reason why they didn't raid the enrichment center after its destruction is because they hadn't invaded just yet, and when they DID start coming, they were too busy probably looking for the Aperture Science vessel, the Borealis. That's the only explanation I have, and its just a theory. Otherwise, no idea. i have a feeling there will be vast amounts of Time Travel in Half Life 3, so maybe that will explain some of it. I also have a feeling that Portal and Half-Life will completely merge in Half-Life 3 (which, trust me on this, is in Beta)

The only major threat to the Enrichment Center that we know of would have to be the Combine. Black Mesa is more or less gone by the events of portal, so there can only be one major threat to Aperture.

I'm guessing the remaining Xen. Or, GLaDOS was lying, or her information was outdated. Who knows? Nothing makes sense anymore

I never felt that statement needed to be taken literally.
