The Gamecube is the console that I grew up with. Naturally, I need some kind of tribute to it. So, here's my list. Yaaaay! Also, please note, I haven't played every Gamecube game. I also've played a bunch of titles that no one's really heard about, or knocked off because of other titles. Anyways, let's get this list started!
10. Pokemon Colosseum
This is one game that I feel that no one gives a crap about. Sure, it's been rising in popularity as of late, but for the most part, no one likes it. I'm not one of those people, but I still feel that it could've been a lot better. The concept was great, story was good for Pokemon, villains were cool, and it was one of the only means of getting Johto Pokemon to your gen III games. Even still, they should've had more Pokemon, the animations could've gone a bit faster, etc. etc., most people's problems with the game. Hopefully, the slight images of a possible Wii-U Pokemon Fighting game will bring back the greatness that was Pokemon console games, after the amount of bash they've gotten in past years.
9. Wario World
Take the fat counterpart to Mario, put him into a 3D beat-'em-up, and let him wreak havoc! This game was one that I loved playing as a kid. Even to this day, I love playing it. No better feeling than piledriving a dinosaur into the ground! But that's really the only reason why I love this game so much. Wreaking havoc. The game itself is short, easy, and the boss battles weren't that hard or memorable...Except that creepy Brawl Doll...Yeeeesh!
8. Luigi's Mansion
Yet another game that seems to get a lot of hate. I personally love this game! Great challenge, fun boss battles, witty dialouge, a lot of collectables, and the list just goes on! However, there has to be a catch, right? Of course! The game is too short! However, that doesn't stop a game from being bad. I own a lot of games that are short, and I love them! Same with this game, I love it! But if it was longer than it was, then it could be much higher! Plus, Luigi's whistling and humming. Need I say more?
7. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
I friggin' love Final Fantasy games! This is no exception. Really, it's not an actual RPG, but more rather a Live-Action adventure game, with upgrades at the end of each stage. The locations you travel to are memorable, the music was brilliant, and the combat was great. And if you can get the GBA link cables, and get your friends to join in, it's hectic and fun. Even still, the reason why this game is so low, is because it's too long and repetitive! Approximately 60 in-game years, and all the same locations. None the less, this is a game I like going to whenever I feel the need to.
6. Viewtiful Joe
Oh my god this game! Really, this is just the one game that I turn to when I'm feeling nerdy. Take a movie addict, put him in his favorite movie, turn him into a super hero, give him special effects for super powers, all combined with witty dialouge, a decent story, creative level design, and you get one heck of a 2D Beat-'em up! However, much like Wario World, the game is too short and easy. However, unlike Wario World, the bosses are extremely memorable, and they're the main source of the witty dialouge. The anime the accompanied this game was also a plus!
5. Super Mario Sunshine
Yeah yeah, another game that not too many people like. Even still, I love this game. The 3D platformer that I grew up with is definitely one of the best! F.L.U.D.D. was a great asset, the use of water throughout the entire game was great, and the creative ways of using it was also cool. My only complaint is that the level design wasn't the exact best, and the whole plot twist with Baby Bowser and Peach kinda came off as awkward, but even still, I love Mario, and this is a game that I can say I love! Except Carona mountain and the final boss, they kinda sucked...
4. Sonic Adventure DX
Yeah yeah, this game originally came out on the Dreamcast, but that was a system I never exactly remembered playing, even though I was told we had nearly every single game for it. Either way, this game was great. 6 varying characters, tons of stages, memorable boss fights, the stories for the characters were great, especially E-102's story, and as a whole, there's a whole bunch of nostalgia that I put into this game. Mainly from playing as Knuckles and exploring the fast levels. Of coourse, this game still has it's flaws. The main complaint being that Tails, Amy, and Big's story sucked. As for me, I didn't mind Tails' story, Amy was kinda bad, but still playable. And Big's was the reason that I could never beat the game when I was younger! Anyways, the game is still great, and I could pop it back in any day!
3. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Okay, seriously, this game has a lot of flaws! The presentation was a huge disappointment, the sailing was repetitive, no one used the Tingle Tuner, paying up to Tingle's overpricing was awful, and the Triforce hunt was boring! But there's still so much other stuff that this game does RIGHT, that it overshadows what everything else has done wrong. The presentation, while a let down, is still very enjoyable. There's a ton of stuff to do out in the ocean, the dungeons were great, combat was efficiant and fast-paced, the bosses were good, the story was great, and all-around, I love this game! It's not my favorite Zelda game, that'd be Skyward Sword. But still, it's a great Zelda game, and I'd pop it in any day!
2. Metroid Prime
Okay, with every game, there's always the system that always seems to surpass it's system capabilities. For me, that game is Metroid Prime. The game just looks so realistic, with huge, sprawling environments, tons of collectables and power-ups, memorables enemies and boss fights, fitting music for every location, nostalgia bombs everywhere, the list goes on and on! Sure, there aren't enough save points, and back-tracking can get repetitive, but that's not too much of a price to pay for a great game!
Now, I'd normally want to put an honorable mentions section here, but sadly, the rest of my GC games SUCK! So, my number 1 is...
1. Tales of Symphonia
Okay, to those of you that have no idea what this game is, read on. If you already know and have played this game, you already know why I love this game! This game has so much content into it. 80 hours of gameplay, tons of skills with 8 characters, pretty good voice acting and translation, fast-paced combat, some of the best music I've ever heard, great boss battles, topped off with a story that'll just make you say "Wow!" The only thing, and I mean the ONLY thing bad about this game is its visuals. Even for the Gamecube, the graphics aren't the best. But that's not how I judge games. I judge them by everything else. So, I am dimensionslayer, and of all places, I bought this game at a Half-Priced Books. Why? I have no idea, but I did, and I'm glad I got this two-disc masterpiece!
