I hate these riduclous assignments...

Posted

Here's what I got from History: an assignment where I must tell the Holocaust...for a 5 year old. Which means I can't use "big words" and "words that might give them nightmares".

What the freaking hell? How am I supposed to do that? 6 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust, and it wasn't pretty.

To make this less complicated, here's how I am I supposed to write it:

"Directions: You have read about the Holocaust in Chapter 14 Section 3 of your book. You have seen clips of Schindler's List and Bergen Belsen documentary. You have been part of discussions about the Holocaust in a high school setting. Now, you must apply your knowledge of the Holocaust to hypothetically presenting it to a 5 year old child.

Considering children are more sensitive to certain topics such as lifee and death, you must approach the topic appropriately. Also, the intelligence of a 5 year old is not that of a high school student or adult. You must not use vocabulary that is difficult to understand.

In sum, you are telling the story of the Holocaust from the Nuremburg Laws to the liberation in the same manner you would tell a 5 year old. Demonstrate knowledge of the Holocaust and the ideas it changed Europe socially, politically and ecomomically as you write. Most important to your grade is thorough explaination but creativity, insight and translation to a 5 year old language will also be considered.

Good luck".

Let's see here....I'm not quite creative (except for writing stories), and explaining the history of the Holocaust to a 5 year old won't be easy.

Oh, I'm going to love this assignment. Great way to end the school year >.>

i knu a 5 yr old. you need to use easy words, colorful picture,s not to gory, make sure u make them look well not to bad...

and like

add Thomas the train somewhere in it

It would be difficult for translation for a bloody mass homicide for a 5 year old child. I don't know much of the holocust, besides Nazis, Jews and Anne Frank. Possibly start off with explaining the different characters in the scene, like Hitler and the Jews, introduce Hitler as a "Bad guy" or "Bad man" that was very mean. This would be a difficult task, but with your writing skills, I know you can figure this out. Others must have.

Larxene, look at Sorage's post. Do you really think telling a giant death toll of Jewish lives and others lives that perished in the Holocaust is easy to explain to a 5 year old without upseting or scaring them?

Remember, the Holocaust is not easy to explain. It's dreadfully hard, considering that it's terrible that these people have been blamed for Germany's loss in World War I, and that they have to suffer illogical consequences. It's bad enough that 2/3 of the Jewish population in Europe are gone because of Adolf Hitler and his deranged actions which also caused World War II when he decided to invade Poland.

Basically, it may seem easy if you have a vast knowledge of the Holocaust, but explaining what the Holocaust was and how it affected Jewish lives to a 5 year old is not easy as pie.

You should then try to stray away from the subject of killing and death as much as possible but without falling off the edge. Just instead of a mass death, try thinking of it as something like...."Going away somewhere and never coming back" Like the big bad Hitler told them to do so.
