Here's what I got from History: an assignment where I must tell the Holocaust...for a 5 year old. Which means I can't use "big words" and "words that might give them nightmares".
What the freaking hell? How am I supposed to do that? 6 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust, and it wasn't pretty.
To make this less complicated, here's how I am I supposed to write it:
"Directions: You have read about the Holocaust in Chapter 14 Section 3 of your book. You have seen clips of Schindler's List and Bergen Belsen documentary. You have been part of discussions about the Holocaust in a high school setting. Now, you must apply your knowledge of the Holocaust to hypothetically presenting it to a 5 year old child.
Considering children are more sensitive to certain topics such as lifee and death, you must approach the topic appropriately. Also, the intelligence of a 5 year old is not that of a high school student or adult. You must not use vocabulary that is difficult to understand.
In sum, you are telling the story of the Holocaust from the Nuremburg Laws to the liberation in the same manner you would tell a 5 year old. Demonstrate knowledge of the Holocaust and the ideas it changed Europe socially, politically and ecomomically as you write. Most important to your grade is thorough explaination but creativity, insight and translation to a 5 year old language will also be considered.
Good luck".
Let's see here....I'm not quite creative (except for writing stories), and explaining the history of the Holocaust to a 5 year old won't be easy.
Oh, I'm going to love this assignment. Great way to end the school year >.>
