Posted September 20, 201312 yr I have seen something that suggests that the voice actors of the Kingdom Hearts characters have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Does anyone here have any concrete proof of this?
September 20, 201312 yr i dont think there's any concrete proof but sometimes you can hear in the acting that it doesnt seem like they know the context of the words
September 20, 201312 yr If I remember correctly Ben Diskin the voice of Young Xehanort said he didn't really know what or who he was talking to and what the context was. You can listen to the interview here: http://www.google.no/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.khinsider.com%2Fnews%2FExclusive-KHInsider-Interviews-Ben-Diskin-3022&ei=kdI8UtvRGqiA4gTd9oDACg&usg=AFQjCNF9fbyBb4NX4PUrVn_E77VKhkkJ6Q&bvm=bv.52434380,d.bGE.
September 20, 201312 yr If they can do a good job at it, what difference does it make? Do you think Christopher Lee actually took the time to research the plot and characters before getting on board?
September 20, 201312 yr Author If they can do a good job at it, what difference does it make? Do you think Christopher Lee actually took the time to research the plot and characters before getting on board? Well, in my opinion, why would you voice a character if you have no idea what they are talking about? Personally, I would never voice a character without knowing what their background is first.
September 20, 201312 yr These are the only example I know of: Richard Epcar = When he replaced Zane in KH2, they just told him to read the lines without giving him any background info. This was only for KH2, though. Chris Lee = When he recorded DiZ in KH2, he just told the guys he was going to read his lines one, go home, and never look back. Ben Diskin = He was told that he was playing Young-Xehanort too evil, and they made him play his role more "ambiguous". That being said, for some of the games, they have to match lip-flaps. So in those games, I'm pretty sure they have to watch the actual scene they're dubbing (like animes) while they record. In those cases, they definitely know what they're saying. But for the most part, it's the director's job to give the VAs the context they need. So if the VAs did something wrong, 9 times out of 10, it's the director's fault.
September 21, 201312 yr The actors are mainly just given the script and a just a tiny bit of backstory. If they want to know more about it, they have to look it up like anyone else.

September 21, 201312 yr Some of the voice actors probably do know what they are doing, David Gallagher comes to mind straight away. Sadly we don't get to see many interviews with most of the actors so we don't really know how they get on with the knowing the story/their character, Haley Joel Osment is the main character and we rarely or never hear a peep out of him regarding his role as Sora. On a side note though, I remember seeing a video on youtube not long ago where these fangirls went up to Jesse McCartney while he was promoting Alvin and the Chipmunks and you know got him to sign KH posters and even a Roxas figure and when he looked at the poster (which was of the KH2 boxart) he literally asked which character was his. I'm sure he knows what Roxas looks like but I still lol'd.

September 21, 201312 yr Author Uhmm... well, cartoon actors never know or care what they're talking about: Why should game acters be any different? Well, this is Kingdom Hearts; a series with a long story that is complex while making sense at the same time, so I think that knowing about the story first makes perfect sense.

Personally, I would never voice a character without knowing what their background is first.I think you're forgetting that voice actors aren't necessarily fans of all the works they are in. Voiceover work pays the bills and is a job. If voice actors only chose to act in their favorite games they'd be bankrupt.
