Before him lay an empty plain. A voice called to him, My warriors, come to me. Johnny turned to where the voice seemed to be coming from. The plain became a trodden road not far from Johnny and he began to walk."This place...I know it...but from where...?" Johnny thought as he walked towards the voice.

Kronos had been observing Johnny and his course in the timeline when he noticed a small disruption in the timeline."What have we here?" Kronos said as he focused on the disruption. For one brief moment in the timeline, Johnny had disappeared.Kronos knew this disruption and opened a time loop, "The war of the gods has taken him at last." Stepping through the rift, Kronos appeared on top of a mountain overlooking Sanctuary."The perfect chance to test him has presented itself. Let the games begin."----------Variuer sat on the throne in the Chaos Shrine. Smiling at his newfound freedom, he began to stretch his arms."I see Chaos has not the mercy to restore his warriors when he summons them," he said as he summoned his sword. The sword began to glow with a red energy as he raised it towards the pillars of the room."Never mind that. Chaos will have quite the time trying to hold down a fellow god," he swung the sword, the energy being releasing in the room and destroying all the pillars, shaking the building itself."Let him try to restrain me. I'm already two steps ahead of him."----------Kain awoke in a strange world, unlike any he had seen before. Looking around, he saw a lake not far from him. Walking towards it, he removed his helmet and splashed water in his face. Looking around again, he wondered to himself, "Where am I? Where is Baron? Where is..." He stopped for a moment to concentrate on the name. His memory was faltering. He could see the face, but where was the name? He began to walk off from the lake, pondering the name of the man he seeked.

The final sound Ramza heard as the world faded into darkness was a whine like scream that split through his body like a knife. That of course wasn't to  say that Ramza was at all unfamailiar with pain. After all, one could hardly serve the knights of the Hokuten without coming across a good deal of it, be it the bite of a knight''s blade, the chill of a mage's spell or, the most recent, the utterly overwhelming agony of divine wrath. But the sound- the sound of God dying- was a sound no mortal man was ever meant to hear. A sound Ramza never would have expected to hear.

 

In the end it was all up to the fates. He had never meant to challenge God, or the church, or even his brothers. When it came down to it, all he'd really wanted was his sister and his best friend back. He was young. He held none of the ambition that the rest of the cruel, misguided world seemed to hold, and when at last the fighting was done, when at last he could lower his sword and look upon what he had wrought there was only one thought that passed through his mind.

 

My god, what have I done?

 

When he looked back at his men, he could see the very same thought echoed back to him. There was no relief, no rejoycing, just utter and complete horror as they watched Altima writhe and fall. No one spoke a word, for there wasn't enough time to speak. The last action Ramza made was to grab his sister's hand and hold her close. He didn't know his reasoning behind it. He knew the gesture would mean nothing because in the next second the Airship graveyard was torn asunder, an earth shattering crash filling the air, and then silence. Dead silence.

 

That silence lasted a long time. For a very long time, Ramza heard and saw nothing, nothing but the final moments of his life played over and over in an infinite loop and that question My god. My god what have I done? repeated ad nausium in an endless chorus of madness. For a very very long time, there was no Alma. There was no Altima and there was no Ramza.

 

When Ramza awoke it was akin to being startled out of a deep sleep. A cry escaped his throat and he threw his hands out, flailing like a startled Malboro. It took him a second to realize that he was safe, not being attacked or accused of heresy or threatened with execution or beatings or Agrias's cooking. It also took him a moment to realize that wherever it was he'd awoken was entirely unfamiliar to him.

 

"Awake, warrior of light"

 

A voice spoke to him. He raised a hand to his head. It occured to him that he'd heard it before, but he wasn't certain of where. A few minutes passed and when Ramza failed to answer the voice spoke again.

 

"Rise warrior of light. You have been called to take part in a sacred quest."

 

Ramza stood with a start. He wasn't familiar with the idea of hearing voices and he wasn't about to start.

 

"Alma?" he cupped a hand to his mouth and began calling for his sister. It was getting late, and he was certain it would be a long way back to Igros from wherever he was, "Alma? Are you..." In mid cry he noticed a figure standing by a small pond, clad in rather heavy armor, most likely that of a lancer. He was staring into a pond intently, as if watching for something.

 

"Ah! Hail!" Ramza raised a hand, walking towards the man. With any luck he wouldn't recognize Ramza as the heretic that accidentally killed a saint and no one would be the wiser, "I was, ah, wondering if you could tell me how far we are from Igros. I've been separated from my men and I'm afraid I'm quite lost."

Kain turned to the man who had called to him, "Igros? We are not in the province of Baron?" Looking at the man, he seemed unfamiliar. But Kain was not one to take chances with his own memory. He held his lance up to the man, "What is your name, warrior?"

Ramza paled a bit, stepping back. In spite of his experience in the trials of war he was still quite uncomfortable around blades and the like. In fact the battles he'd fought and lost comrades in had only heightened his utter hate for battle.

 

"Eaagh.." Ramza let a short cry of surprise escape his lips as he stumbled back, "I don't wish to fight you, sir" he said, composing himself after a moment, "I... ah.. I'm afraid I know not of this Baron, but if you count yourself lost, then I am just as lost as you are. "

 

As he looked the man over a strange thought entered his mind. A harrowing thought. The man's armor resembled neither the order of the Hokuten nor the Nanten. He bore a crest not of Ivalice nor Riovanes nor Valeria. Could it be perhaps that he had become displaced in space or perhaps...

 

"You... wouldn't happen to know what year it is, do you? "

"The year?" Kain was taken aback by the man. "I see no significance of what year it is." Lowering his lance to the man, he looked away towards the mountains in the distance, "So we are both lost here in this world. We'd best head somewhere high. Get a vantage point to see where we are."

Ramza shifted a bit, a touch put off by the man's bluntness. After all if what he feared was true there was a chance he would never see any of the people he'd fought for again.

 

"Pardon my asking again but, I fear knowing the year is quite important to me" he looked down, "While I am not entirely sure of my circumstances I believe I may have spent a good deal of time... well... " he didn't want to say dead lest the man believe him a specter or a ghoul"unconscious. My sister and my companions were with me last I knew. I want to ensure that I haven't been gone for... for so very long. "

Kain turned back to the man, "I only know what I know. I know not the year, nor where your companions are. Should your companions be in this world, we should work towards finding them."

"HELLO BANDAR."

 

"Oh. Hello Pelor." He was non nonchalant about the god of light greeting him.

 

"A GREAT SHADOW HAS PASSED OVER ALL OF THE REALMS, AND I HAVE CHOSEN YOU TO BE MY CHAMPION."

 

Bandar blinked. He didn't know if Pelor was stupid or had an amazing sense of humor.

 

"Nope."

 

"NO?"

 

"Hell no. Do I look like a firetrucking paladin?"

 

"BUT THOU MUST-"

 

"I'm enjoying my cornbread."

 

"BUT THOU MUST-"

 

"And I've got a hot date with this super hot Warlock, gonna tap dat ass."

 

"BUT THOU MUST-"

 

"Look at this nice silverware, you're gonna make me leave such a fine establishment? There's a personal ass wiper in the bathrooms-"

 

"BUT THOU MUST!"

 

Bandar didn't get a chance to protest this time as he was slowly dragged into a portal. He clawed for the cornbread dragging the plate with him.

 

"NO! NO! Let me eat my cornbread in peace!"

 

He was dragged into the dimensional door by the God of Light and thrown into the other world. The next thing Bandar knew was being thrown into a pond. He splashed into the water, the cornbread flinging at high speed into Ramza's face. 

 

Bandar raised his head. "Aw damn, my robes are wet, at least my cornbread is-NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" He screamed as he kneeled waving his arms in the direction of the Cornbread imbedded into Ramza's face.

Sylar stepped out of a shadow next to Kronos, and smiled maliciously. "Ooh, testing huh? Sounds like fun to me..." Sylar spoke to Kronos, his insane tone coming clear in his words. Sylar snapped his fingers, and dark spikes appeared around him. "Y'know, I always loved standardized testing. Filling in all those little bubbles was so tedious though," Sylar turned to Kronos, and looked him up and down. "Nice power. I want it." Sylar said again, all pretense of friendship dropped. He snapped his fingers again, and the blades of darkness went hurtling towards Kronos.

Yuffie awoke in an empty field, and rubbed her eyes. She sat up and yawned loudly. It was then that she realized that this was not her bed. The ninja sprung up, grasped her large shuriken, and looked around. Seeing no immediate danger, she let her guard down slightly. "Where am I now?" Yuffie muttered to herself.

Kronos disappeared as the blades hurtled towards him. Reappearing behind the man who had just confronted him, Kronos' arm changed into sword form and he raised it towards the man, "A man of your aptitude can never comprehend the laws of time. It is mine alone to wield and see fit what to do it with. You seek not what I seek on this battlefield, cretin. Begone."

Kain turned his attention to the one who had just landed in the pond. Kain raised his lance to the man and spoke to Ramza, "Be this one of your companions? If not, I'd like to question him."---------As Johnny walked down the path, he saw an expanse of field nearby. In the center stood a girl with a giant shruiken. Johnny diverted from the path and walked towards the girl, "Hello! Are you okay?"

Sylar turned and stepped back looking the man straight in the eye. "Cretin, seems a bit harsh doesn't it?" Sylar questioned. "Also, it seems I just comprehended time." The serial killer summoned a dark blade of his own. He stepped forward, then sped up time to lunge fiercely at his opponent, leaving little time to react.

Yuffie looked at the traveler. She gripped her weapon a bit tighter, but grinned anyway. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for asking. You wouldn't happen to know where I am would you? I'm Yuffie Kisaragi by the way." Yuffie told the man. She was hesitant to trust him, but considering he was the first person she had met, she would have to for at least a little bit.

Johnny looked down, a bit dejected, "I'm sorry to say, I don't know where we are. As familiar as it seems, I can't place a name or anything." Johnny shook his head and looked back up at Yuffie, "But I'm getting ahead of myself. Name's Johnny Madman." Johnny reached out to the girl for a handshake, "Nice to meet you, Yuffie."---------Kronos did more than react to the strange man's attack. He made him overshoot it. Using one of his techniques of time paradoxes, he vanished from one place and moved behind the man. Retracting his sword and returning to his own hand, Kronos began to take an interest in this man, "I tire of this game. Perhaps you would enlighten a fellow scholar on what you seek here, on the battlefield of the gods?"

Luna was beginning to wake up on top of water not remembering anything except her name. "Where am I?" Luna asked herself as her vision blur seeing a figure coming to her. The figure was a man known as Kain Highwind. "Are you alright?" Kain asked bending down. "A little hurt but i'm ok." Luna said trying to get up. Kain help her up as she struggle to get on her legs. "Thank you. My name is Luna." Luna said to the man known as Kain. "I am known as Kain." He said to the young demigoddess. "I should get you to Cosmos so that she gives you her light." Kain said taking her to Cosmos.

Yuffie smiled back at Johnny and returned the handshake. "Well Johnny, I suppose we should get on our way now." Yuffie said, cutting to the chase. She grinned and started skipping down the path.

Sylar turned and looked towards Kronos. The guy was smart, Sylar had to give him that. "A goal? Pssh, I don't need a goal. My existence is more along the lines of gain power, mess with people, gain more power, and just cause general chaos. I mean, do I need a goal? World's going down anyway, might as well help it along." Sylar began to speak, circling Kronos, twirling his blade of darkness in his hands nonchalantly. "I was born with a gift. I can see the way things work. Watches, societies, abilities, I can understand them all by simply looking at them. Hence, by looking at you, I understood your ability, and reconstructed it within my own body. Rather simple really," Sylar continued.

Ramza gave a little shout, shaking pieces of cornbread from his hair.  He certainly hadn't been expecting to see young wizards falling from the sky.  Two of them in fact. He sighed, this was a strange place indeed.

 

He looked the older wizard over first. He was dressed outlandishly, wearing a strange pattern on his robes, and bearing no sign of Ivalician make. He shook his head.

 

"I've never seen him before in my life." he admitted, " Though I wish he would stop shouting. It's bound to draw..." he looked around before lowing his voice a touch "Unwanted attention." He shook himself, "Ask what you will. In fact, I have a few queries I'd like to make myself."

The first thing Vormav felt upon awakening was a gripping pain that pierced his chest. He blinked, groggy, disoriented. Where am I..? Thoughts poured through his head, How in the world did I get here.... and for that matter, what IS here?

 

He looked around. He was atop a mountain, in the middle of what appeared to be a howling storm with no sight of civilization for miles and no memory of how he'd ended up there. In fact, he had no memory of the past few months.

 

"Good Lord..." he whispered, righting himself slowly. It hurt to move, but he was not a man to be deterred by pain, "What happened here..."

 

The last thing he remembered was meeting with a legion of his fellow shrine knights in an attempt to uncover the mysteries behind a set of artifacts known as the Zodiac stones. Each of the stones was imbued with a powerful holy magic, but it was impossible to harness. Even the most experienced magus were perplexed and puzzled by the strange stones. He remembered that as he touched the stone a voice spoke to him, asking him what his wish was. The answer of course had come to him in seconds.

 

To further proclaim the glory of God and do the bidding of Saint Ajora.

 

And that was it. That was all he could remember.

 

"Izlude... Miludia.." he mumbled the names of his two children as he walked along the path. He dearly hoped that they were still alright. He needed to return to them, surely they had worried for his safety, "Worry not, my son.. my daughter... soon I will return."

"But I like attention. That's what mother always said, that I cause trouble just to get her attention," Bandar seemed to forget the tragic loss of the cornbread and jumped back a bit. The demented wizard looked at those who had gathered around the silly little pond. This wasn't the first time that Bandar had traveled across the planes of eternity, in fact, a spell of his made it a rather easy task. Unfortunately, he didn't have the spell Plane Shift prepared at the moment, and doing so would take hours upon hours of uninterrupted study. Plus, it wasn't as though Bandar had anything else to do-oh...

 

He did.

 

Bandar shook his head. He couldn't think about that right now. He wasn't strong enough to do such a task. Not yet.

 

"So." He push his hands on his wastes, stood tall and looked about the land around him. "Where am I? Eberron? Ravenloft? That really really weird place called Earth?" He looked at Ramza and then at Kain. "Nope? Nobody knows. I guess that makes this a whole new wooooooorld~! A dazzling place I never knew~!"

(OOC: I was a bit confused at twilight_roxas' post, but I think I can find a way to end my own confusion.)Johnny followed after Yuffie down the path. Along the way, Johnny attempted to make small talk, "So...do you remember anything before this? Before waking up?" Johnny cast his arms behind his head, "Cause I can't. It's really weird. Memories are something of a specialty with me."----------Kronos laughed at the man, "I doubt that time in itself is that easy to comprehend." Kronos turned towards the man, recognizing his ability, "The one I seek, a warrior on this battlefield, has a talent much like yours. However, his ability is tied directly to memories, not sight itself. This begs for examination."---------Dark Kain lowered his lance and turned away from the two men, "This man is not whom I seek. Ask of him what you will, he is of no use to me." Dark Kain turned his head slightly to look the strange man in the eyes, "Although he'd be more likely to keep his head if he minds his tongue."

Bandar stared at Kain for a moment back, before snickered, which broke out into quiet laugh.

 

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he said between snickers, "Well not really. You, are not the first to say such things, and you shall certainly not be the last to do so."

"What you have been called for has affected your memories." A voice from a patch of thin air beside Johnny and Yuffie explained.

Lean Joker became visible, already in step with the ninja and the knight. His old, battered long coat fluttered slightly as he walked with them, his hood up so only the bottom half of his face was visible.

"An odd, but constant effect in the war between Cosmos and Chaos. Before you ask, my name is Joker."

The two names struck a chord with Johnny, beginning to stir memories of a woman in white and a demonic figure. There was another figure he saw in that flash of memories: a man clad in armor, with sword and shield in hand."I remember now. This is the battlefield of the gods, where Cosmos and Chaos fight. And we've been summoned to fight for them," Johnny thought aloud, piecing the memories together. He looked up at Joker and said, "The name's Johnny Madman. My friend is Yuffie Kisaragi."

 

--------Dark Kain smiled and said with disdain, "I should hope not. Strangers seem to be falling from the sky, and I doubt any will take to you any more kindly than us."

"It's raining men. Halleluiah." Mused Bandar with a smile. "That just gives me an opportunity to sell enchanted umbrellas now."

Joker bobbed his hooded head to Johnny and Yuffie.

"Glad to see some of your memory is returning." He said, looking ahead to where the trio were going. "Some do not recover from the memory loss till after they are sent away. Do you know if a counter part was chosen from your world?"

"A counterpart?" Johnny asked. "Not sure yet. You and Yuffie are the only two I've run into so far. Anything's possible. Not sure how Chaos would deal with Dusk."---------Dark Kain sighed, "There is no end to his madness." Kain looked back up towards the mountains, "Regardless, I'm heading towards a vantage point in the mountains. Join me if you like, but I'd rather stay in territory more suited to me."

"Pity." Joker said. "I was hoping that we could at least know some of Chaos' warriors ahead of time."

Joker tilted his head up, looking to the sky.

"It might be best to find more of Cosmos' forces before we go directly against Chaos."

 

"Great, more idiots." Vanitas growled as he walked towards Dark Kain and Bandar. "I would have thought Chaos would get warriors worth something."
