"THIS IS IT FOLKS!!" The short, plump announcer declared. "THE IG-I IS FINALLY UNDER WAY! TODAY WE HAVE RISING STAR BLAKE BLAZER FACING OFF AGAINST IG-I VETERAN FERRO ALSTRAD, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS BINARY. THE RACE IS JUST ABOUT TO START FOLKS!! I CAN BARELY WAIT MYSELF!!"

Inside his mech, Blake rolled his eyes. "You ready, old man?" He asked his opponent.

(Other racers are gathered in the Lounge Area at the stadium, they have a clear view of the race where they can scout out their competition, be they on the course or with them in the lounge. I recommend socializing while Natron and I are racing)

(The first lap's mostly for getting an early lead and for assessing you mech's condition, it's an all out brawl from there)

"Hold on you!" Blake called getting up and speeding forward. He took the inside turn and faced Ferro.

"Let's go head to head, shall we?" He asked, already in the motion of his first punch.

"I'd prefer not to." Ferro said in a bored way. He ducked under the blow and used Blake's momentum to get ahead. Then he leaped up and pushed off of Blake's back, sending his opponent careening backward and himself rocketing through the next turn. Ferro believed first and foremost in the racing element of the IGPX, and he intended to reach the end first rather than spend time battering a hunk of amateur metal.

"Hmph." Lexi lay upside down on a couch near Ren. She had been watching the race quietly, assessing the two racers. One was getting ahead of himself. He was clever, but seemed to barely know what he was doing. The other was the opposite. Every move he made was deliberate, but not every move was a good one. Granted, she didn't have much experience racing either, but she had practiced enough, and watched enough races to know how to win.

"Humph, fine then." Blake regained his balance and pulled forward, his turn was a bit wide but he was on perfect conrse. He drew his mech's arm back, all his sensors locking in on the one spot. "Take this!" Blake's mech's fist made contact with the opposing mech's shoulder blade, firing a sonic blast and completely blowing off all contro of the appendage. Blake dashed forward, drawing as close as possible to the next lap before retaliation or a pit stop.

"I am Chiko...are you a Mech user too?" Chiko asked, looking at IA.

"My dad forced me to become a Mech user...It's a bit fun...." she said, smiling a bit as Blake took the lead for a second.

  • Author

"Yup." IA replied. "I'm a forward. How 'bout you?" Forced into the IGPX, huh? By her father nonetheless... As far as she could remember, she never really had a father. Maybe talking to this Chiko girl wasn't such a good idea...

The mech's left arm went dead and began to flop by Ferro's side. Ferro let it flop; he had a use for it. Rounding the next turn on three limbs, Ferro got behind Blake. Suddenly he whipped his dead left arm around Blake's ankles, grabbed the end with his right arm, twisted the hand around the shoulder and cut it off. In effect, Blake's legs were tied together. Ferro ended to maneuver with a blow across the face and a kick in the chest. He regained the lead and put distance between himself and Blake, although at a slower rate.

Iris giggled. "I saw that little smile when Blake took the lead." She told Chiko. "He is pretty cute, you know."

Blake smirked. "I know what to do now." He returned to the all too familiar chase behind Ferro after tearing off the arm that bound his mech's legs. He had time his next strike just right. He wouldn't be able to try it again. He stayed behind Ferro, slowly but surely catching up to him. He cut inside on the next turn and got low, swinging his mech's leg up to Ferro's mech's hip, unleashing another sonic burst, dishing the rest of Ferro's mech's left side, and pushing Blake ahead.

"And there he goes again." Iris commented.

(Did you realize I lashed your legs together?)

(Clearly not)

Chiko giggled, "Sure Iris..." she sighed.

This was a tough fight. She'd probably be losing however. It's a shame however.

Waldo sat in the Lounge Area, loudly eating through a large bag of Dorito's. He could barely contain his own excitement. After all, not only was this race action packed, but both of the racer were Midfielders just like him. He was already trying to think of stretagies of to beat them, should the need arise.

"This is going to be good." he said quietly to himself.

(Nei, I edited, so it's your turn)

Kamui stood behind Waldo. "Indeed it is!" He declared. "In fact, things have been truly marvelous up until this point. The midfielders adept mobility is at it's finest in a competition such as so! Sadly I fear it's about over..."

(I looked through everything. You have no sonic bursts left.)

Ferro's mech sprawled across the track. "Pit stop!" Ferro yelled to the running skeleton. The yellow line appeared in front of Blake's mech, and the skeleton came over. It picked up Ferro's mech, repaired it's left side, refueled it, and set it down behind Blake. After a few seconds, the yellow line turned blue. Ferro took the opportunity to get a jump on Blake. He quickly went to all fours, and with a mighty push, sailed past Blake on the straightaway. Ferro coaxed as much speed as he could out of his mech before the turn, then drifted through with a sliding maneuver.

"I'm not done yet, old man!" Not completely true. He was done fighting, but the race wan't done. Blake wasn't going to let it be done. He was going to make it done himself. His mech went into Speed Mode, the limbs folded in and the rest of it laid back and adopted a more automobile like structure. All controls went to speed and turn and left and right. Blake quickly caught up with Ferro's mech whose quadruped function. Worked more as a median between the two standard modes. Ferro began to fall behind. Fast.

"AND WE HAVE A WINNER" the announcer declared as Blake dashed across the finish line

(Hold on a minute! I didn't know I could do that!)

(I knew I was forgetting something...)

"Well that was interesting." Waldo said to Kamui. The way those two fought, he began to doubt his own skills. He could barely imagine holding his own against either of them, let alone beat them. But he wasn't about to let this guy know that.

"By the way, I'm Waldo, another midfielder like those guys." He said, pointing to the racers, "How about you?"

(By the way Sikota, what's this about a Speed Mode?)

(A transformation the mech can make once per race. All fighting capabilities are tossed aside and like in my initial post on the matter, devotes everything to speed during the final stretch of the race.)

"I am defender Kamui Gackupo!" The enigmatic pilot replied. "I play the role of defender."

"Hm... Perhaps if you and I prove adequate enough, we may even be racing side by side next season..."

"Wait, you mean in the IG-3?" Waldo said, surprised. This guy was a little overly theatrical, but that was ok. After all, he seemed nice enough. He just hopped this guy was a good racer.

"Uh... sure, I'll think about it. You want some Dorito's? I think I've had enough" he said, holding out his half eaten bag of chips.

"There are things in life that I choose not to indulge in." Kamui said, gracefully denying Waldo's offer. "Now if you'll excuse me, I must attend to my training. I may be the one to be racing next week and I do not wish to be caught I'll prepared." He walked away.

Across the room. Iris stood near Chiko. "Well I guess I'll be going. Seeya on the track. Maybe." She walked away.

Once Blake had finished his interviews, he left the arena. He watched some of the other new racers filter out with him and got a scope of the competition.

(Can you switch back out of speed mode, or is it an end-of-the-race kind of thing? And do I have to race again in order to make it to the IG-3?)

Ferro climbed out of his mech after the race. Damn speed mode. He had forgotten about it! Oh well, just another race under the belt. Ferro made his way off the course.

(End of the race kind of thing. And you MIGHT race later)

Leon was sitting near his mech tightening bolts, loosening screws, cleaning parts, reattaching parts, fixing the paint, and generally making the fixes on his Defender without the pit crew. He was smiling as he did it. "A clean defender is a happy defender" he said as he put the finishing touches on it. Then he looked at his schematic. "Alright next up is the rest of the armour and then the steady boosters so i have more speed during the race. It wont be much but its something." He said as he started doing just that.
