This is what I own: the original games...KHI, RE:COM, AND KHII for ps2 (but I own a ps3 as well FYI). Considering getting 1.5 remix (and if its ever released, 2.5). I just have two guestions though....

1) (this is probably a more subjective question but I don't care. Lol) considering what i already own, is it reeeeeally all that worth it to get this remastered collection? (Keep in mind a college student with very limited funds who has access to YouTube and thousands of cutscene videos) What EXACTLY would I be getting that I don't have? What is your opinion on this? Anyone else in my boat? Your input would be most helpful

2) I also own the official guidebooks for kh1 and 2 which made my playing sooooo much more complete and enjoyable! Are these books (or at least the first one at this point) compatible with the remix version? I can assume by what I've read that this can be answered with a yes and no. I'm more interested in the "no" parts. Where is the book completely useless? I'm mainly looking at things like maps, level up stats, keyblade power stats, and item locations...again any input would be most valuable. Thank you

You would be getting to play a video game in HD. It looks so beautiful compared to the quality on the PS2. Don't get me wrong, the quality isn't super horrible on the PS2, but could I go back? Probably not. One of the biggest reasons that I got the game was trophy support. I'm kind of obsessed when it comes to playing games that have trophy support. Not to mention it has theater mode for 358/2 Days so it includes not only cut scenes, but the text dialogue from the game as well. I'm not sure how much of it since I didn't play the game all the way through cause I hate hand helds. I would definitely say it's worth the $40 or however much it is. I really didn't care about Chain of Memories since I can't stand the card based battle system.

 

The books would be somewhat compatible. There have been changes to Final Mix and things were moved around.

 

Oh, something else that I really appreciated with this collection is the use of the reaction command since that wasn't available in the original KH. That was something that made me prefer KH II. It just makes Sora's manueverbility a lot more enjoyable.

Well you could hit up GameFAQ for the Final Mix alterations, item synthesis recipes have all been changed, that would probably be the biggest change to invalidate the guide, the leveling system was tweeked to so it won't be exactly accurate. New treasure chest resards. Also on top of the 11 new Heartless the rest have been tweeked in some way. 

 

Considering you might not be convinced in the investment and that you already have the original ReCoM and can simply watch the Days cutscenes I wouldn't be able to justify an immediate purchase if I were in your shoes. However trophies, Final Mix, (in my case ReCoM and the Days cutscenes) and the HD conversion made this a worthwhile purchase but if you're not to bothered you wait till Christmas and treat yourself to it.

Well KHFM for starters. And than you also have Re:CoM and the 358/2 Days Cutscenes all in HD. Honestly I just think it was worth it for playing in HD. But as well with the extra FM content, and the trophy support, it's just incredible. Also Square Enix stated they will only make 2.5 if 1.5 sells good, so as KH fans it is our duty to make sure we get KH1.5.

@punchxcore: Wait. Reaction commands (as in the triangle right?) are now in kh1 with this release?? Oh yay!! Those were so much fun(especially when the game went all light saber at the end of kh2. Lol)! Thanks for the input.I hated the card thing too. I never got past battling memory-Leon(like the very first battle in the game. Lol). Can't mentally process the cards fast enough and by things moved around? Do u mean items?

But yeah by "original" I meant the original non HD ps2 versions. I've never owned a handheld so the others haven't really counted to me. Hoping I'll someday be able to play BBS and dream drop on ps3 or 4 or SOMETHING not handheld before kh3 comes out!

FREAKING Final Mix, HD, new abilities, new Keyblades, new enemies, trophies, new cutscenes (youtube is NEVER the same, no matter what anyone tells you), new music (beautiful by the way), skipable cutscenes, updated character models, a freaking 358/2 DAYS MOVIE, PS3 themes, Gummi Ship Missions, more easily accessible synthesis items (well, in my experience anyway), and FREAKING Kingdom Hearts!!!!!!!

 

Other than that, no. Nothing else worth mentioning.

ok so first, there is no reaction commands like in kh2, it just for move like sonic blade and strike raid and they replace the action for talk and examine with triangle. so its KHFM that has lot of new moves and they changed the level up layout so the book doesn't help (i have one so i know), it has 2 new keyblades for sora, 2 new staffs for donald, and 2 new shields for goofy. final mix has new cutscene and speech bubbles.11 new heartless and all heartless are recolored. a new secret boss, new modes, new synthesis, new accessories, new gummi ship enemies, new gummi ships, new gummi ship stuff, you get stuff for kill all secret boss, it's in HD, you can use the right stick to move camera, updated character models. for reCoM, not much but in stead of keyblades from kh2 they change them to keyblades from days, cutscenes and roxas's dairy from days. when you beat each game you get a theme, trophies. and yes you will need the guide because it has all the new stuff and reCoM is in there and it never got a guide but i would still keep the other guide still. it might have some other stuff, but i forgot i hope this helped. edit: remade music in KHFM,CoM,and Days and skip able cutscenes

The game is worth the price as you're essentially getting 2 games and a movie for about the same price as a single 90's-early 00's game.As for the guide, if you're an Item Collector, you're going to want it, if not you don't really need it unless you absolutely can't beat Xemnas (Mysterious Figure). I haven't gotten around to buying it myself yet but I would assume a strategy for the Xemnas fight is in it, although they didn't have a Julius strategy in the 3D guide book, which kinda ticked me off. But for items, definitely want to get the guide as I said earlier.

WOW! Thank for all the input everyone! Definitely the information i was looking for and much more! Regarding the guidebook, i just found on amazon that the official one (hardcover and everything!) for 1.5 will be released October 15th! My mind is sooo made up now! Thank you all! Now just waiting to see if 2.5 comes out and praying that i get to finally play BBS and 3D!!!!!! They did it with CoM. Why couldnt they do it with those two? I want to play them soooo bad!!!
