WELL, this anime season is shaping up to be a great one.
So, fresh out the gate, we have this new anime called Kill la Kill, which is was created and being animated by Trigger, the same studio that created Gurren Lagaan. That alone should get you excited.
Anyways, this anime has a little similarity to the last anime I made a threat about, WataMote, and I say that because this anime centers around the slice of life type genre and, like WataMote, it takes it into a really weird/strange/hilarious/awesome direction. In WataMote's case, that was making things really awkward, But in Kill la Kill's case... it makes things SUPER FRICKING ACTION PACKED AND DOWN RIGHT INSANE!
This show is out of the loop. It's fast paced, it's in-your-face, and overall, it kicks ass. The first episode was aired last Thursday, and the first manga chapter was released yesterday, and here's the story so far: It revolves around this school called Honnoji Academy, which is run by the fearsome student council, who basically run the school under their president Satsuki Kyrruin. These students rule using Goku Uniforms (Yes, that is exactly what you think it means. lol) which are suits that give them incredible powers. The suits are numbered in rank by stars, with the council, of course, having the highest ranked, at 3 stars. Then it goes to 2 stars, for the council's goons and such, then to 1, then to no number; those are basically fodder. And as it is shown, a 1 star taking on a 3 star is like Pilaf taking on Beerus. No contest. So obviously, these guys are not to be messed with. Then along comes this exchange student named Ryuko Matoi, who is looking for the killer of her father; the killer left behind half of a giant pair of scissors, with Ryuko claiming the other half as her weapon while she tries to find the other pair, who she believes to be in the possession of Satsuki. The rest you have to watch the episode for, but I'll tell you one last thing: at some point, Ryuko finds a living school uniform called Senketsu, which gives her special powers that are able to help her combat Honnoji forces. Now, then, go watch the episode for the rest.
All in all, I think this series has had a really great start in it of itself, and Trigger is doing their best to really get people talking about. The animation is beautiful, the action is amazing and all over the place, and overall, the whole concept of it is really intriguing. I think this could be one of the best series of the year.
