Inafune Stop! Stop Right Now!

Posted

In an upcoming interview, Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune discusses his Kickstarter success with Mighty No. 9, and the possibility of Capcom publishing the game. He says that if Capcom were to propose the best offer, he “would go with Capcom,” assuring that “There is no reason not to publish with Capcom.”

Inafune also addressed the thought of turning the game into a Mega Man title if Capcom was inclined to do so. Although far more hesitant about this idea, Inafune did not express complete opposition to it, but he did admit that the terms would have to be just right, and that he and his crew “really want this to be [their] thing.”

In a resounding demonstration of the gaming community’s love of Mega Man and Inafune’s creations, Mighty No. 9 shattered its Kickstarter goal of $900K in only two days, eventually raking in nearly $4 million. The Kickstarter campaign even reached a stretch goal that will bring it to 3DS, in addition to Wii U.

There has been much discussion about the game’s similarities to Inafune’s own Mega Man titles, which has given way to the recent consideration of Capcom’s involvement. Inafune’s full comments appear below.

“I would hear their terms. If they had the best terms, I would go with Capcom. There is no reason not to publish with Capcom, and I certainly don’t feel like there’s a reason that I have to publish with Capcom. Literally it would be a very cut-and-dried business negotiation. If they had the best terms, the logical businessman in me would say, “Yes, let’s go with them.”

“If Capcom came up with really great terms to make it a Mega Man game, then of course I would listen and that would be an option. But the base of this game is that we wanted to create something original. If they gave us an offer we couldn’t refuse, that would mean having to change the main character into Mega Man. On top of that, it would still have to be our IP, which is what we want. I can’t foresee that happening. We really want this to be our thing.”

Capcom will cancel it immediately the moment they get their shit diarrhea hand on it

This comment made my day lol.

Inafune, SMFH... I am disappointed, even if you are having your own terms if you're willing to work Crapcom. Crapcom will quickly pull a troll face and say "we canceled it due to no possible DLC profits."

Has he learned nothing?

I am dissaponited to hear this....I mean COME ON!!!!!! YOU SAW WHAT THEY DID WITH YOUR CREATION!!!!!!!!! IT's ONE OF THE REASONS YOU LEFT!!!!! This pic is how I felt when I read the first part of this....

This comment made my day lol.

I was just watching an AVGN episode when I was reading this so I thought I should use it.....thanks to James Rofle

As much as I like Megaman,I don't think this is a good idea to turn Mighty no 9 into Megaman,I like Beck's design and I really want to play Mighty no 9 and I don't think we can trust Capcom just yet.

And with Capcom, all the stretch goals would become DLC.

And That would suck for the people who paid to backup the project because they paid for "Mighty no 9" not for "Magaman",for a Megaman game NOT publish by Capcom,I don't think Inafune ever mention anything about the possibilities of Capcom being involved in the project and I'm sure that a lot of them paid to show Capcom that people still care about Megaman.
