Something feels absolutely off about the modern Final Fantasy games

Posted

It just feels so off to me

from 10-2 through 13 to XIV(even the realm reborn version) including a couple of spin-off games(except Dissidia 012 and Crisis Core those were pure awesomeness)

I just didn't had that grand and epic feeling that I used to get from a Final Fantasy game......XIII-2 is a semi-exception to that as I think it's much better than 12(And I hate Vaan with a passion by the way)......but I still had that feeling that there is something really off

When I was replaying FF4 through the Complete collection on the PSP....I felt that epic feeling once again....the story, the characters, the world, the battle system and that soundtrack of legends by Nobou Uematsu......everything felt right and it continued with games like FFVII and FFIX

Despite the graphical limitations back in the 90's,they still managed to create an outstanding experience to compensate for the limitations they had back then, but I don't understand how they got worse with the advance of the technology,I don't mean in graphics, but in story-telling and the world of the games, while for me it very slowly started with FF8,at least FF8 has a world of it's own to explore and see despite the awful story, something that XIII completely lacked with it's lifeless boring hallways that took 0% advantage of the supposedly beautiful world of Cocoon.

I know that FFXV is looking great and awesome from what we've seen in E3,but will Square be able to bring back that feeling the old games once had............again it's not about me being a nostalgia whore no no no no,I mean will they be able to create those magical & epic stories once again and maintain the essence of what made Final Fantasy great in the first place???

Because one of the reason I have those worries to the extreme now,is that the new committee that Square made to ensure the series's quality, consist of the same people that ruined it in the first place like Toriyama.

Exactly our point. And I don't think time travel "works" for FF.

It's not like FF8 did the time travel gimmick any better since the plot of FF8 is complete garbage in my opinion...at least XIII-2's time travel was kinda better

Anyway, time travel or not....if the first game was so bad it got retconned....you know something is seriously wrong with the first XIII

And that's my biggest gripe with XIII's story....it's pointless.....aside from the main characters and few incidents...there is nothing important to carry with you from XIII

Fal'cie,L'cie,Focus.....all of this mess they were spamming on us for 40 hours and 13 chapters now means NOTHING by the time you discover that now you can cast magic without being a l'cie to do so

the only thing you get from being a l'cie is an Eidolon to summon

I loved XIII.

I loved XIII.

I used to love XIII more than you and SpiderFreak do....I used to be an ultimate fanboy of XIII...I'm not kidding you.

I still love some aspects of it like the Battle System and the awesome music......but there are so many things wrong,so jarring that it's hard to miss

the whole Fal'cie giving focus to their slaves through hazy dreams.....How does any of these fal'cies expect their slaves to carry this focus PERFECTLY with nothing clear of that they should do.????

That's why DysleyBarthendelus's stupid plan didn't work until Lightning and her cohorts randomly gathered.

This focus thing loses it's credibility the more you progress through the story of the trilogy as they could've easily tell a L'cie:There,go destroy Orphan inside the City of Eden...he's evil. The end

They could've gave them even a false focus to drive them to complete such goal without a question

Also, the crystarium is the stupidest level up system I've ever seen in any RPG....PERIOD

Crystarium is present in XIII-2 too mate.

Crystarium is present in XIII-2 too mate.

I know but at least there, all the rules are available so I can level up however I want and choose whatever rule I want to start with

the first XIII puts artificial caps on you so you won't level up more than the boss of said chapter.Basically everything in XIII up to chapter 11 is scripted.

You can't arrange your party until chapter 9,you can't level up until you clear a chapter....the game wants you to play it the way Toriyama want, not the way you want to play. And that's not a good thing to do in an RPG

Well I loved it regardless.

There is nothing wrong with loving it...but I warn you....the fanbase will tear you apart for liking it as they did to me for the past 2 years....not on this site maybe...but just post a comment on a FF forum or on youtube about how you like FFXIII.....and watch the amount of insults and hate mails you're gonna get for no reason.Dude I once posted the phrase "I love FFXIII" on Square's facebook page a year ago and I got a death threat.....I'm not kidding

that's just one of the reasons the FF fanbase is in 2nd place right after the Sonic fanbase in terms of worst fandom in history

Who said it's the second worst? Lol.

Who said it's the second worst? Lol.

For me at the very least.

They might not be as bad as the Sonic Fanbase....but I just can't stand the FF fandom at all

MUCH LESS OF THIS

I know XIII has long hallways which was really bad, but i felt the gameplay was good and the story was even better. With those i could stomach the long hallways easy TBH. But i can see why you would dislike it. XIII-2 was so much better though, and LR and XV look to be some of the series best to date.

From waht ive seen XII seems boring the main character just seems like a kid who tags along for the ride and isnt important at all honestly. I dont like XI or XIV that much since they're MMO's. If i didnt have to pay every month to play them i would look into them.

I admit that im  a bit biased with this, since XIII-2 was my first FF game ever, so i like XIII alot.

oh boy this again

I know we had a lot of those already and the situation would be repeated by others if things didn't improve
