I understand that Second Chance saves you from a single fatal blow if you have more than 1 HP. But Once More saves you from a whole combo, right? So isn't Once More Superior to Second Chance in every way? Or is Once More useless without Second Chance?

 

If someone could explain this for me, I'd appreciate it.

Once More only works after the first hit. If you don't have Second Chance, a single hit can kill you before Once More can trigger.

You need Second Chance to survive the first hit if you don't have enough HP, but if you only have Once More, you won't be able to survive the first hit of the combo if your HP is too low. You need Second Chance to survive the first attack, and then Once More to survive the rest of the combo. Both are needed to survive the tougher bosses of the games.

If you're a couple of HP away from dying, Once More isn't going to help you. Likewise, If you get hit by a lethal combo, second chance won't do much either, unless you just manage to survive the last hit with 1HP. Both serve their purposes.

They aren't needed, just recommended, unless you're referring to Vanitas's Lingering Spirit and Mysterious Figure in BBS.

Basically just use both. 

It's highly recommended that you use both, as the others above have mentioned, they both save you either way. 

I'll use Sephiroth as an example. If he combos you with his sword down to the point where you would die and you don't recover or get back to your feet, you won't die with Once More. The next hit will kill you. Second Chance lets you survive any hit that would kill you, so his Descend Heartless Angel attack. The two can work together to save and allow you to get combo'd and juggled till the cows come home and still live. I hope I explained that correctly.

Well if you're crazy and out of your gourd, then yes, they aren't needed. There are just some risks that you don't you don't take, and this would be one of them.
