Pete is the true ‘Xehanort’- it all makes sense now
Should you take the time to actually read all of this, I will explain the origins of Master Xehanort and Pete- and the role they shall play in Kingdom Hearts III
By the time Birth by Sleep comes around, Disney Town and Disney Castle already exist- so it’s some years before when it’s Timeless River, around the time Eraqus and ‘Young Xehanort’ would’ve been in their teens.
So in Timeless River, Pete the Steamboat captain sails across the waters- doomed to sail around in circles as it is only a river. He grows tired of this life, and believes the inhabitants of his tiny world to be beneath him, so seeks to escape from his world.
His powerful will and resolve to escape unlocks the potential in his heart, thus creating a key-shaped sword. With this mysterious weapon, Pete tests it out- slashing at the air only to open a portal, a portal to another world, and steps through it out of curiousity.
Pete now finds himself on the shores of Destiny Islands, in full color mind you! Taking in the view, he realizes this world is far better than that dreary one he left behind.
Just as he’s thinking this, a young man approaches him- Young Xehanort to be exact. Xehanort examines the blade in Pete’s hand, recognizing it immediately. He tells Pete it is a Keyblade, a weapon with the power to unlock hearts. Upon Pete’s questioning, Xehanort refuses to explain how he knows this.
Instead, Young Xehanort instructs Pete to unlock his own heart, and move it into Xehanort’s body so that he can wield the Keyblade in his place.
Pete doesn’t like the sound of this at all- he then uses the Keyblade to unlock Xehanort’s heart, and watches as it floats away, leaving his body behind.
Convinced that Young Xehanort’s body will serve as a far better ‘vessel’, he deems it, he then turns the blade on himself to release his own heart, and puts it into the strong body before him.
With Young Xehanort’s strength and lower weight, Pete feels empowered! His former body fades away, leaving Pete, who now inhabits Xehanort’s body, to mull over some questions. What is the Keyblade? Why did he obtain its power? Just how many more worlds are there?
With Keyblade in hand, Peteanort begins his journey to find his answers- eventually becoming the student of a Keyblade Master, along with his now peer Eraqus, to learn the secrets behind the Keyblade.
With this new knowledge, one event in particular grabs Peteanort’s attention the most: The Keyblade War. From here, Peteanort, who simply goes by the name of Xehanort, begins to become infatuated with the darkness and the past.
Meanwhile, back in Timeless River, Pete’s body created a Nobody that now takes his place.
Pete’s Nobody, having been created before all of Pete’s memories could be transferred, as he moved into Xehanort’s body, is now far more simple-minded than he used to be. His use of grammar is poor, and those around him seem to take pity on him. This causes the Nobody to feel rage, as a heart slowly develops over the years and he acts out for attention, leading to his banishment in Birth by Sleep.
Now in Kingdom Hearts III, should Master Xehanort- who’s really Pete inside of the now aged Young Xehanort’s body- should Master Xehanort and the True Organization XIII fall, he will be able to transfer his heart into Pete, who all this time was actually his Nobody.
By fusing his true heart with his long forgotten Nobody, Peteanort will become a higher being- one that shall serve as the TRUE final boss of Kingdom Hearts III. He will also ride upon the Red Eye boss- you will fight a giant Peteanort Nobody/Somebody hybrid riding upon a rampaging Heartless
