That's a sad thing to be disappointed about.

That's a lot of excitement for something that was never even hinted at. It was the fanbase that kept hyping itself up for a release date. 

Tetsuya Nomura explained this in his Famitsu Weekly interview.

Back on topic: We should have expected a release date since it's obvious it'll come out in 2014 over a month ago.
