Sword Art Online: Another Log-In (Roleplay Thread)

Keimei looked around at the crowd in the center plaza of the Starting Town. "Why was I just taken here...?" She asked aloud. She'd only been playing for a couple hours, and had decided to get into the combat system before finding anyone to team up with. She looked around the crowd, noticing a lot of other people were also teleporting there. Suddenly, the sky above her turned blood red. A cloaked figure appeared over the square, and hovered there.

"Hello everyone, and welcome to SAO." A voice boomed over the crowd. "You're likely wondering who I am... My true identity will remain secret. However, I will tell you this; I have hacked into SAO. Some of you may have noticed that there isn't a log-out button... That's because I've removed the option to log out. I've trapped you all in the game..." He paused, as the crowd was dead silent. He eventually continued. "Why have I done this? Simple. I've wanted a world of my liking. In this world, I've surpassed even the game's creator, Kayaba Akihiko. Here, I control you all... Unless, of course, you can clear all 100 floors. However, that's impossible..." He cackled. "Also, to warn you... If you die in the world of SAO, the NerveGear will fry your brain in the real world, killing you in both. If anyone attempts to remove your NerveGear, you will also die. Now then, before I leave, I have a gift for you..." Suddenly, a mirror appeared in Keimei's inventory. She used it, out of curiosity. There was a sudden flash of light, and she shut her eyes...

When she opened her eyes, she felt different. She looked into the mirror... That's... my real face in the mirror... She looked in horror. Aside from her hair color, which was the same shade of red that she'd made it in-game, she looked exactly like she did in real life.

"Now then... With this, I must leave. Good luck in Aincrad... You'll need it." A maniacal laughter echoed along the buildings, as the figure disappeared.

After the echoes, there was silence. After what felt like ages, people began rioting. "We're doomed!" "I can't be trapped in the game, I've got a meeting in an hour!" "That had to all be some sick joke!" Keimei looked around in confusion. She didn't know what to do. She looked around frantically.

I have to get out... The only way to do that is to fight, and I'll need partners... Man, I really wish my friends had been able to get the game so I wouldn't be alone in this. She dashed through town, weaving her way through the crowd and into the streets. She tried to look around for someone, anyone who was also rushing to go fight.

(Wow, I didn't expect things to pick up so quickly.)

"All right, I'll go with you guys." Lock finally answered. He would've answered sooner, but he was caught off guard by the two newcomers and the chance an an impressive quest. He was surprised that nobody seemed to notice his odd complexion yet, but that was okay. Maybe they were just more mature than he expected. "I'm Lock, by the way. I wasn't a beta tester, but I know a thing or two about wielding weapons, especially melee ones. It's kind of a hobby of mine in the real world. If any of you need tips on how to use a sword, spear, ax, or hammer, I'm your guy."

"Alright, Lock! Looks like we've got another expert with us." Keimei was relieved that the people she'd teamed up with were so skilled when it came to various aspects of the game.

(No, it's fine, get the xP from the Baker, sounds like 'Fun'/shot)

"OK!" He yelled, starting to run as fast as he could. "I hope we can clear the boss, though, I mean, if we find some of that metal as a drop from that one enemy, I can forge better equipment for us, or at least for the person with the lowest stats to compensate" He thought, leading the way, they encountered a few boars and wolves, nothing too dangerous to fight, but certainly a threat. When a pack of wolves encountered the group, though, Abisk decided to teach the team about "Switching". "Okay, guy's. Find a team mate, and stick with them. It's time to teach you all how to Switch." He said, looking at Kei. "Be my partner?" he asked.

The group eventually reached a pack of wolves. "Yeah, I'll partner with you." Kei smirked, and drew her sword. "You go first, you know more about combat than me." She said calmly.

As the group closed in on the pack of wolves, Lock grabbed his hammer from his side. He was about to charge, when he remembered something, and turned toward Abisk, "Hey Abisk, should we form a party first before we attack these wolves, or does that even matter yet?

Vash walked towards Lock and pulled out his Sword. "So, i guess you wanna partner up so we can switch in and out?"

"So i guess this Switching mechanic cant be done with 3 people?" Vash asked Abisk.

"We can do three's, but I'm sticking to two and two right now, it's simpler that way." Abisk replied, then being bombarded with another question.

"We're already in a party, one of the convinces of this game is that it has some voice commands, like teaming up can be done verbally, but I'm splitting us up to make it easier to learn Switching and Combat." He replied, then,

"Okay. First, you have your basic slash!" Abisk yelled out to the group. "Nothing special, but if you're a really good swordsman by nature or practice or something, it can be helpful in mid-combat when you need to switch it up, put remember, enemy's sometimes have things called "Sword Skills". We have them as well, but we're not focusing on them yet. Sword Skills are special attacks to be used by an enemy or yourself, and certain weapons have certain Sword Skills that can be used, but not all of them can use the same skills, keep that in mind when buying or ordering a weapon of any kind!" Abisk said, looking at the first in the pack of wolves, he ran up and slashed it across it's face, but then was tackled and bitten by another of the group. "Now this is where Switching comes in! If you're in need of rest, you can take turns in combat by having a player sit in the rear and recover, and they can join back in simply by having themselves or their partner yell out the voice command, and they attack and the partner that switched out goes to the back to recover!" He yelled, stabbing the wolf a few times to get it off of him. "Switch!" he yelled, hoping Kei would be able to handle the next attack.

"Right!" Keimei ran in to where Abisk just was, and slashed the wolf, managing to defeat it. "That's one down..." Another started to run over towards her. She blocked its attack with her sword, and shoved it back. She managed to stab it, but it ended up slashing her arm with its claws. Ow... I can even feel the pain. I can't be reckless anymore... "Switch!" She shouted, running back to rest.

(I'd always thought that only applied to before Kayaba made his announcement. The second arc kinda explains that there's a pain filter that lets you feel the pain in-game, I'd always assumed SAO was like that too. I mean, if they could feel worn out, it only made sense to me that they'd feel pain.)

Robin was shocked by the message from the mysterious man in the sky, he waited for it all to sink in. He may never see his family or friends again. He pushed his emotions aside and tried to think about what he should do next "I guess i should start leveling" Robin sprinted for the fields and pulled out his dagger. He took out the pigs pretty easily but he was surprised how much energy it took. Robins athletic nature really helped him through the lower level enemies, although it took him a while to take them out he was fast enough to dodge their attacks. they were pretty slow so he didn't take too much damage, Robin looked over to see a group taking out some wolves. "Maybe I can join them later? There's no way I'm going near those things at my level by myself."

(you're right there's a pain filter that was applied after kayaba's message)

Vash walked towards Lock and pulled out his Sword. "So, i guess you wanna partner up so we can switch in and out?"

(Just so you guys know, this is my last post until morning, hope you don't mind.)

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I'll go first." Lock responded to Vash, and then charged at the wolves. It felt weird being the only one in the party without a sword, but that was okay. Lock bashed the head of the closest wolf, and then another two came lunging at him. He was able to strike one, but the second was able to slash him in the left leg. His health bar went down, but fortunately not by much. It stung pretty badly though. Lock defeated the other wolf with his hammer, and shouted, "Stitch!" After a moment, he noticed he said it wrong, "Wait, I mean switch!" Lock backed away, and thought about the strengths and weaknesses of his hammer. It was a powerful weapon, but also a slower and harder to maneuver than a sword, which mean it required some foresight in order to be used properly.

"Switch!" She shouted, running back to rest.

"On it!" He yelled going back to the front. "And now we get onto Sword Skills. Like I said, they're skills we can use as players and enemy's can use to hurt us intensely." he said. "Depending on the type, it can deal major damage to enemy's, weapons, armor, you get the gist. But for right now, we're just going to try them out." He said, using his basic two-sided sword, he switched his grip to reverse and took a step back with his right foot, his blade glowed green. "You let the energy build up for a moment, then let it explode!" he yelled, sliding his right-foot forward and unleashing the skill, he span slightly like a top and killed two more of the wolves. "Switch!" He yelled, jumping back to let Kei get in a stroke or two.

Vash immediately jumped in front of Lock and grasped his Sword with both hands. He quickly did a stab and a side strike at one of the wolves but it immediately counter and bit his arm. "AGH!" He quickly grabbed his arm. "That......actually hurt? UGH, ITS ON NOW YOU STUPID WOLF!" He quickly did a strike at the head, then a stab towards the face and finished off with a spinning finisher that blew away the wolf and defeated it. "Wow.....That felt good, that was actually fun!"

"Oh ok then." Vash quickly held the sword on his shoulders and slowly backed away from the wolves, then his sword started to glow bright blue. "HERE IT GOES!" He pointed his sword at the Wolf and let go of the charge, and he flew at the wolf, slashing through it, instantly killing it. "Wow, that was incredible!" He quickly ran to the wolf and started to charge, but the wolf scratched at his legs and he fell over. "Agh, ok that wasn't smart." He decided to just take it out the old fashion way, and quickly did 2 side strikes and finished with a blitz type of move.

Robin moved away from the pigs and sat away from their spawn point on a nearby hill. He pulled out his mirror and looked in it, his white hair blowing in the artificial wind. Robin thought about all the things he was going to miss about the outside world, he would miss his mum's cooking and his bed. Robin kept looking in the mirror deep into his eyes, he could feel the emotions welling up inside him. "Who the heck was that guy? who does this? this isn't how it was supposed to happen!" Robin wanted to get out, more than anything, but as he dropped his gaze from the mirror he noticed how beautiful the sky was. "Even if we're stuck in here Kayaba put his heart and soul into this... I'm going to beat this game, I can't do it alone. But if i want to join a group i'm going to need to become strong. Robin remembered back to his guide book, "I already know how to switch, that concept's pretty basic, I guess it's time to learn how to use my skills." Robin stood up and began practicing charging and using his skills

Achi decided he had enough. He knew that he had to partner up with someone. But perhaps...He could go solo for a while, at least until he found some formidable players. He got up from the bench, and ran off to the next town. But a little while after he saw a battle in the distance, an entire group fighting a pack of wolves. Formidable...but as for them in particular, he wasn't comfortable conversing with an entire group. He decided to leave them be, and moved on. After a while, however, he ran into a man, probably 4 years older than Achi(Achi is 14, by the way).

Achi knew he had to partner up with someone eventually, so he brought up all of his courage...and spoke. "H-hey there..."

(sorry man I'm about to go to sleep :P but I'll continue tomorrow :) )

Achi knew he had to partner up with someone eventually, so he brought up all of his courage...and spoke. "H-hey there..."

"hey, I'm robin." Robin gave him a smile and went to shake his hand "what's your name?"

Finally at the farm, she found the pack. Six wolves prowled the fence, and she took her sword out.

Charging, she leapt over the fence and waited. When the time was right she struck. Sword glowing, Aether struck the first wolf. She concentrate and spun to strike another.

Two hurt and four healthy. She breathed easy. No worries.

Spamming Sword Skills, she ended up with six injured wolves.

Kicking one away, she slashed another. One down, she spun and slashed another. His health higher, she attacked again, and while she took him down Two more hit her, sending her to the ground.

Aether cursed and rolled, kicking to push them away. she got up and slashed a flurry of blows, taking two more out. With three left, she retreated a few feet away. The last three prowled around. With her back to the fence she could keep them in sight.

One lepat but met a Sword Skill. The last two retreated.

She frowned. Sub - shit.

She tried to duck but was hit from behind. The Alpha. Dammit.

Reverse-gripping her blade, she stabbed the Alpha, who yelped and jumped away. She got up.

Three to one. Lovely. Health at half.

No worries.

She spun and slashed one away, then waited. She felt the skill activate, and slashed. Down to two.

She yelled and charged.

Ten minutes later she dragged herself into the town. At level four, almost level five, and health in the red, she informed the guard.

"Thank you citizen! Here is compensation."

A one handed straight sword was handed to her.

"Tempered Anneal Sword. Good." She then held both of them. Dual wielding. She'd try that when she had better weapons.

Putting her starting sword in her storage, she went off to find a decent quest.

"Okay." Sikiro muttered, watching the boar snort and scrape its foot against the ground. Sikiro held his sword in its sheathe, waiting for the right moment to strike. The boar charged, letting out a squeal as it ran towards Sikiro. The young male closed his eyes, finally opening them to unsheathe his blade and slash the oncoming swine right in the face. It trotted a few feet past Sikiro before exploding into blue fire and crystals.

"There." Sikiro said, opening up the menu and checking the Quest sub-menu, "Just three more of these things to go."

"I've got this!" Keimei ran back to the pack of wolves. Her blade began to glow blue. After a few moments she charged at a wolf, slashing straight through it. The wolf instantly dissipated, meaning all the wolves had been defeated. "Looks like we did it... Good job, everyone!" She congratulated her fellow party members. "We all make a pretty good team!" She turned back to her partner. "Abisk, are we ready to move on now?"

Mes stabbed her blade into a wolf, finishing it off. It snarled at her one last time, and died at her feet. "Hmph." Mes turned, and placed her rapier back into it's place at her side, and began walking away. She walked at her EXP bar, and saw how close it was to level 5. She smiled to herself. She was doing well for herself. Then she heard a deep howl. The alpha wolf, of course. She turned and was met with fangs. Mes leaped back, but not quick enough. Pain shot through her arm. Mes threw the wolf off, and drew her blade. She closed her eyes and concentrated. She unleashed her newest sword skill, thrusting forward, and stabbing the wolf about 45 times a second, finishing it off with a powerful lunge. The wolf fell backwards, now perforated. Fully satisfied with her completed job, Mes checked her EXP bar to find that she had indeed reached level 5. At least that stupid wolf had been worth it. She also glanced at her HP bar. It was officially dipping into the red zone. Mes rolled her eyes at the inconvenience. Now she would have to return to town before she progressed any further. She had already made her way to the second town, and figured she was about ready to progress to the third. All she needed was a partner. "Where will I find one of those?" Mes muttered to herself, walking into town.

The clean sound of a blade being drawn and sliced was heard behind Sikiro. The boar was flung back, now dead. Ryonne stood to his full height, and spoke. "Watch your back. I won't always be there to save it for you." Ryonne threw his blade back into his sheath, and began to walk back to town. He had recently finished a quest himself, and was headed back to turn it in. That's when he recalled a need of his. He would need a partner before progressing any further. Ryonne had seen for himself this player's strength. He decided upon him as his partner. Ryonne turned back to Sikiro, and stuck his hand out. "I am Ryonne. I see you are also partner less for the moment. If you wouldn't mind, I believe an alliance would help us both out quite a bit." Ryonne was straight to the point, and clear with his wording.

Level Seven.

Aether was just outside of the second town. She had finshed a simple quest of clearing boars to get to level five, and now was facing far more powerful monsters. As one tried to slash her with it's curved blade, she ducked and lunged, impaling it through the chest. It cried out and died.

She turned to face a few more. Her X.P bar was small again, and not growing much further. She sighed and spun, parrying the next sword. Three more sword-wielding gorilla men and she would be done. Go get her reward then head to the next town.

Easy.

Aether reverse-gripped her blade and blocked another swipe. Concentrating, she unleashed a sword skill and removed it's arm before finishing it off with a decapitation.

She felt two hlades bite into her shoulder though. Growling in pain as her health bar went into the yellow, she stabbed back and got a critical strike. Two down.

Dropping, she swept the creature down and drove her sword home.

It flashed into crystalline pieces and faded away, leaving Aether to stand and statt making her way back to the town for her reward.

"The boar was defeated already." Sikiro replied, giving this new player an apathetic glance. He sighed, touching his face for a moment, "I suppose I could team up. That was what I was looking for, anyways--someone to team up with." He said, smiling a little. This was finally starting to go well.

"Right then." Sikiro said, "Name?"

"Nice!" Abisk exclaimed, the wolves were nearly done...

"Great job, Kei!" He yelled, sheathing his blade."Yeah, we mo- eh?" A menu appeared in front of him "Quest cleared? Oh. It must have been a glitch.." he said. "I'm not going to argue, enough EXP from this and the glitch to level me to three is far from something I will dislike..." Abisk said. The rest of the group had leveled to two. "Okay, we move on, but look at our HP meters before we move on, we're not far, and everyone seems OK, but you always check statuses before you head out. It's safer like that." Abisk informed. "Come on now, its getting late, we need to secure an inn and work on the quest." He said, starting to lead the group. "We got wolf hide... I wonder if anyone in this group has the Sewing skill, its good early game for armor's..." He thought as they made it to town. "First job is stock up. Each town has a few things different, we need potions and gear primary, there are few status afflictions early game, so were OK without status improvers. We could also use improved gear, my armor is pretty good, I had saved up a little before the game launch and got the DLC trainee palidin armor, good till the boss room in terms of effectiveness, but you all aren't wearing the best gear we can have at this point, nor weapons." He informed, everyone ran off and used whatever money they had to get items, Abisk grabbed a bunch of potions, once everyone returned prepared, they were ready to set out. "Follow me, its the blacksmith's son who we're talking to." Abisk said, finding him where he was before: hiding in the back of the blacksmith shop's spare gear."Please don't kill me! Take what you need!" He yelled at the group, Abisk just waved it off. "No, my friend, we're here because we heard something down here... Crying?" Upon the question, the quest bubble appeared above the NPC's head. "Y-you did?. Oh... Well, my dad had made a sword, best one this land has seen in a long time... But I was attacked and forced to give it to the thing that took it... My father... He disowned me for it..." The NPC explained. "There, there, my friend. It will be OK. I and my friends here will retrieve the sword in exchange for nothing more than 600 Gil and a few small bread rolls." The NPC smiled and looked Abisk in the eyes. "T-thank you! Are you sure you don't want any more? The sword is worth-" "No, my friend, we'll kill the beast and only desire the bread and Gil. No more, no less."The NPC bowed. "Thank you, kind hero." Then an exclamation mark went inside of the quest bubble. "We're on!" Abisk said, rushing to the outside. "We need to go to the underground tunnel below the city, in the quest its rumored to be the old town built here, but when monsters overran it, they built over it." Abisk explained, rushing to the outskirts of town. The one good thing about being in town was that your HP will steadily recover, slowly, and not in duels, but it would recover, and he had maxed out his HP again, so had the others. Once they made it to the entrance, which was not cealed like it should have, he walked into it.

"Nice!" Abisk exclaimed, the wolves were nearly done..."Great job, Kei!" He yelled, sheathing his blade."Yeah, we mo- eh?" A menu appeared in front of him "Quest cleared? "So... I'm guessing you know where this thing that stole the sword is, Abisk?" Keimei asked, hopeful that they had some sort of idea. The tunnel was fairly dark, and she ended up tripping. "Ow... Wish we had some sort of light in here..." She muttered under her breath. "How far does the tunnel go, anyway?" She asked.

(sorry man I'm about to go to sleep :P but I'll continue tomorrow :) )

"hey, I'm robin." Robin gave him a smile and went to shake his hand "what's your name?"

"I-I'm Achi..." He said reluctantly, shaking his hand. He had no idea what to say, so he decided to go into a topic that's on everybody's mind. "So...why do you think this hacker guy or whatever decided to trap us in here? Could it really be for some desired world?"

"So... I'm guessing you know where this thing that stole the sword is, Abisk?" Keimei asked, hopeful that they had some sort of idea. The tunnel was fairly dark, and she ended up tripping. "Ow... "Yeah, I know, I was the guy mainly beta-ing it in the beginning, so I know every route there is to it" He made a left turn where one normally, seeming to disappear into a wall. "But be careful. The monsters in here can fight well in the dark," He said, pulling out his swords, he clashed them together to create sparks, causing a spark to light some wood from an old house on fire, making a small torch. "I was hoping to just find the house with supplies needed to go darker, but a torch is fine." He sighed.
