105 years ago certain individuals began to manifest superpowers called NEXT. Ever since these beings have taken different paths on how to use their new powers. Some decided not to be bothered,living normal lives. Ohers have used their powers to live a life of crime,having an advantage. The most well-known route however,has been that a select few of them have become costumed superheroes in order to protect their cities using their powers. Taking advantage of this companies began to sponsor these heroes,and with this came the birth of HeroTV in the capital of NEXT activity,Sternbild City. With HeroTv,heroes fighting crime is a commercialized commodity,its helicopters and cameras following the heroes as they commit heroic acts across the city,from the smallest to the most dangerous. This turned NEXT from being hated and scared by normal people to actually be appraised by them. Prejudice towards NEXTs still exists,but it is not as prominent or violent as it once had been. Any NEXT criminals to be caught will be transferred to Abbas Prison,the only prison in the world with cells that are capable of nullifying NEXT powers.

 

Many heroes have come and gone to be remembered forever within the HeroTv hall of fame. These include the iconic Mr.Legend,the first ever hero duo Tiger and Barnaby,and many others. But with heroes many villains have remained as part of Sternbild’s City history,such as infamous Lunatic,the treacherous Maverik,and the powerful Jake Martinez.

 

With new generations of heroes protecting Sternbild City,new generations of villains are sure to appear as well. Either a graduate from the NEXT Academy,found by a sponsor on the streets,or training for revenge,anything is possible within this city.

 

Things to know:

 

NEXT powers: When activated,NEXT powers generally surround the user with a blue glowing outline and turn the user’s eyes a bright blue as well. These abilities can vary from useful to not exactly useful (Such as super sweat),and can vary from elemental-based powers (ice,fire,etc.),Offense-based powers (Hundred Power,Diamond body,etc.),Defense-based powers (Barriers,impenetrable skin,etc.),and even mental-based powers (telekinesis,memory implantation,etc.)

 

Special cases of NEXT powers: There are two special cases of NEXT powers that have no explication,these are NEXT having two powers,and NEXT losing their powers, both of these being extremely rare.

 

A NEXT having two powers is rare and the only known NEXT recorded in history to have two powers was Jake Martinez. (Mind reading and Barriers)

 

A NEXT losing their powers is just as rare,and there are only two NEXT recorded in history that this has happened to them. (Mr.Legend and Wild Tiger) This will show when the NEXT notices that its powers become weaker,or don’t last as much as they should. The powers decrease and decrease until they disappears completely.

 

Sponsors: Most if not all heroes have sponsors,companies that will pay them if they are willing to promote their brand or products. They do this by having the brand names on somewhere in the hero’s costume,where the people can see it from time to time. Considering the Heroes are also treated as celebrities around the city,they make them do commercials,interviews,etc. The sponsors do know the true identity of the heroes that work of them at times. They’re the employers after all.

 

Heroes & Costumes: With sponsors come good costumes to fight evil in. Usually fit to please the eye and fit the hero’s personality and power,along with a catchy hero name. Heroes do prefer at times to keep their identity secret from the public to protect themselves and their families. The only known hero to have presented his true face to the public to know is Barnaby. Usually the hero’s costumes include using contacts to change eye color,using wigs or hair spray as well,to make the hero appearance completely different from their human one.

 

 

Sternbild City: Based off New York City,Sternbild is built in a three-tier style. The Bronze layer (bottom),the silver layer (middle),and the Gold layer (top). The higher the layer, the more opulent the lifestyle. Living accommodations are wide and varied, ranging from apartment complexes to traditional Japanese-style houses. In the center of the city is the Justice Tower, which serves as headquarters for the city's heroes.

Bio: Yuri was born in a big city across the world in a successful family. He is the youngest out of triplets. The middle triplet died due to complications,but its personality never exactly left. Yuri and his big sister grew up together,but they had very different personalities. While the sister was outgoing,he was more reserved to himself,and easily scared. As he grew up he developed an alternate personality,which he claimed for it to be their brother which never left. Of course the family just ignored it as childish nonsense. On their 10th birthday Yuri surprised everyone when he was able to change the color of the flames on the birthday cake. However the power did grow stronger than he could handle,and a fire occurred. No one got hurt,but the family home was burnt down. It was then that the parents were confronted with the reality that their youngest son was a NEXT. So after that night they took Yuri to a huge catholic school to stay for the day,promising they would come back later. They never came back for him. Years later he was visited by a woman that had heard rumors of a rainbow child within the catholic orphanage school. She took him to Sternbild City where she signed him up in the NEXT academy. After graduating she quickly made Yuri a hero for her company. He has been a hero for a year now,and has it harder than he makes it appear at times. 

Curious facts?: Yuri has a multi-personality disorder,however the other personality is what he says is his older brother that never really left,to which he calls Mad Hatter. They change places when it comes time to do the dirty jobs.

He hates vegetables.

"Wait for meee~!!" KuroNeko yelled rather loudly, chasing after Sho who was chasing after Shotaro.

She looked at The Hatter before stopping for a second.

"Hatter! Come on!" She yelled.

KuroNeko then started catching up with Freezer Burn.

"Wait for me and The Hatter!" She called.

Just as Saidarin was about to try to persuade Megumi more, he stopped and smiled as she walked away.

 

Crap, something doesn't feel right. A change in the wind... could it be a NEXT? A culprit of the crime?

 

There was one thing he was sure of, however. Saidarin was not the only one tailing someone. Alright, time to come up with a plan.

 

With a small snap of his finger, he sent a strong gust of wind to carry a small stone into an alleyway he'd seen a short ways away, where the presence seemed to be coming from. The wind would focus specifically on knocking the stone against different places in the alleyway, slowly but steadily, creating  an echo and the illusion of the sound of footsteps.

"Hm." Yu grunted. Too many people for his tastes. Way too many. Even a NEXT Hero or two, which only served to make matters worse. Plus, it seemed another set of footsteps was coming down the alleyway.

"All or nothing." Yu murmured, hoping he could manage to slip away unnoticed as he finally stepped out of the alleyway. Keeping his head lowered he slowly tried to make his way elsewhere, though keeping an occasional eye on Saidarin. Yu needed to get away from everyone--for fear he may be caught and forcefully interrogated for his own behavior.

Saidarin felt it as well: more people were congregating around the area, and he still felt he was being watched.

 

"I hate to have to do this...." He sighed, then took in a great breath of air. Clenching his fists, he let out all breath as he pumped his arms up toward the sky. Winds of 45 miles an hour gusted throughout the entire area, slinging trash cans all around.

 

This could reveal my stalker, but at the very least give me a way out of this.

Sylar crept about. Lots of bad things in the world today. Including himself. Evidently a robber had been shot while being pursued by some heroes. Sylar had scoffed when word reached his ears. It was complete nonsense. Obviously a rogue human attempting to change the role of NEXTs in society. Of course, whoever it was, would probably be an obstacle to him, but not much of one. Sylar flexed his fingers. Oh the power he could hold. Sylar continued to walk through the alleyways.

 

"What do you make of it Gauss?" A firm voice spoke from behind the other NEXT hero. Alex stepped out from the shadows. The teen had made friends with Gauss early in his hero career. It had not taken long for Alex to figure out where his friend lived, despite the man's general dislike of followers. Now, the least flashy hero Nightwing, was looking for opinions on the horrific scene that had played out in the city. "I mean, who do you think would have done something like that? Especially with the cameras rolling.

David glanced behind him and nodded to Alex, as he turned off a few screens dealing with his work.

"Plenty of possibilities." He answered, turning back to the screens. "Though, my money is on a vigilante I have noted working the streets. I have not seen him directly, but a pattern of activity is there for those who look."

With a few clicks from his mouse, the scene of the camera crew coming around the corner to find the dead body replayed.

"I have to admire him or her for the ability to stay anonymous for this long. It would certainly make my job easier if I had such anonymity."

A cell phone of David's desk vibrated and buzzed as it received a message. David picked it up and opened the message. For the barest of moments, a look of annoyance crossed his face, but it was quickly gone to be replaced by a look of intrigue.

"Well well well. It looks like the little robbery had more of an impact then I thought."

Standing up, David walked over to a cabinet on the wall where he stored his out fit.

"A random grabbing of cash and a very surgical siphon off a crime lord's account."

He raised a hand and a small bit of electricity bounced from finger to finger. The doors of his cabinet swung out and the Gauss costume flew out and started assembling on David.

"Want to come to the recently robbed bank?" He asked over his shoulder before his mask flew in and rested on his face.

Sho followed Shotaro quickly into the streets. Sho shot an ice blast at the runaway, stopping him dead in his tracks. "DONT KILL ME!" He said. "I-I just saw the body, I swear!" Sho looked at him. "Ok... I guess I can understand that... But you'll still have to be questioned, okay?" He melted the ice off, and carried him back.

Mad Hatter had a hard time trying to keep up,especially with so much movement and his brother arguing with him at the same time. He groaned in frustruation. By then the cops had arrived. Mad Hatter's eyes turned red as he pulled down his hat to cover the color of his eyes. The police walked up to the scene.

 

"Are you alright,Mad Hatter?"The police man asked as Mad Hatter did indeed seem a bit out of it. Mad Hatter turned away and kept his gaze to the ground. This time it wasn't Mad Hatter,it was Yuri,the trapped red-eyed boy who could have it all,yet couldn't. 

 

"I'm fine,if you guys have it handled here,I have to go."Mad Hatter said as he walked away,waving back at the people who were already at the scene. He did not want to see the body. Mad Hatter could,but Yuri couldn't bear the thought without puking due to the color red. Yes. Yuri indeed had a phobia for the color red,ironic considering his hair and eye color. He was instantly confronted by the press,to which he quickly coward away. The change from Mad Hatter to Yuri was almost instant,since the two acted so very different towards people,the press,and so on. There was the sound of a horn. Everyone turned to see a company limo parked in front of the scene. It was Mad Hatter's sponsor. The same elegant woman from before walked out and stood up. 

 

"Mad Hatter isn't a crime scene investigator,he has no practice in dealing with dead bodies. He will be coming back to the hero building now."The woman said. Mad Hatter took this chance and quickly ran up,getting into the limo. The woman walked inside with him and closed the door. The press quickly spread. Some taking photos of the crime scene as others were tapping on the window,asking for a few words from Mad Hatter. The limo drove off. Mad Hatter sighed and carefully took off his hat. 

 

"Thank you Ms.Mercedes. I was starting to think that I would-"Mad Hatter would never get to finish that sentence as he was slapped right across the face by Ms.Mercedes. Mad Hatter blinked as he felt his cheek sting. 

 

"You idiot! You were pathetic! You let that newbie Freezer Burn take the credit for finding the body AND the other heroes for capturing the remaining assilents."Ms.Mercedes said as she flicked around the news on the plasma tv that stood within the limo. Mad Hatter,or in this case,Yuri,looked down as he played with his hat slightly. 

 

"I'm sorry."Yuri muttered. 

 

"You're lucky tomorrow we have that documentary I had set up. The life of a hero! They'll be taking your shots of your day tomorrow. Within all that I have a bunch of stuff that I need you to show casually to promote."Ms.Mercedes said as she took out a stuffed plush that looked like Mad Hatter. Yuri stared. 

 

"I don't know how to respond to that..."Yuri muttered. 

 

"If you manage to show this our sales are sure to boost. You already show off our brand name well with our custom made costume we made for you. But we need more encouragement. Also you will have to play the piano for a bit later on,maybe after that we could promote the CD."Ms.Mercedes said as she continued to talk to herself. Yuri stared sadly as he looked out the window and sighed.

 

"Yes mam..."

When Sho got home, he felt refreshed. A successful day at being a hero. He had caught a presumed assailant, and stopped two criminals! He didn't even care about the stupid suit anymore! He took it off, and washed the dye off of his hair. He sighed, as he showered. As soon as he got out, he called hatter and Neko. "Hey, Hatter...Neko... Remember what I asked before...about training... What would be a good time for that?"

 

Shotaro looked in the cell. He had been here before... Rather, his clone brethren had. He had been foolish enough to be spotted... He would accept what came soon....

KuroNeko got home on her own time, going back to Rin. Her mother helped her change out of her clothes, Rin taking the colored contacts out and getting into some comfortable night clothes....she was sleepy and wanted to be left alone. Rin was half asleep when her phone started ringing.

"WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU WAKING ME UP!" She yelled into the phone.

"O-Oh...it's just you Sho. I didn't give you my phone-number! Stalker!" Rin snapped.

She then noticed this was a three-way call, the Hatter was on the other end.

"Oh...H-Hi Hatter..." She sighed.

So the little stalker took BOTH their phone numbers? Interesting...

"Oh... I bet you are wondering about my number... My publicist is sneaky... Also hero tower hotlines have all heroes on speed dial..." He sighed. "I'm sorry, Neko…"

 

Shotaro was in a van, heading for questioning at the precincts… as soon as he got out, he was sniped.

 

Shotaro 2 was on the roof with the rifle. "Disposal complete..." He left as quietly as he came.

"Got a secret

The ringtone rung from Yuri's cellphone. They had just reached hero's tower and were walking out of the limo. He picked it up when he heard some unexpected yelling through the line. 

 

"R-I mean,KuroNeko,is that you?"Yuri asked as he carefully got the phone closer. "Oh my goodness I totally forgot about that for a moment."Yuri said as he entered the elevator with Ms.Mercedes. He turned to her. "Ms.Mercedes,I promised FreezerBurn that I would teach him how to control his powers. Think I can take some time off tomorrow so I can teach him?"Yuri asked. Ms.Mercedes turned to him. 

 

"That's it! That's a wonderful idea for the show! Mad Hatter teaches the ropes to the new hero!"Ms.Mercedes said. 

 

"That's not what I meant miss."Yuri said as Ms.Mercedes shook him. 

 

"He's more than welcomed to accompine us tomorrow for the recording that HeroTV is doing. It'd be a total hit!"Ms.Mercedes said. Yuri sighed and got back on the phone. 

 

"Well according to Ms.Mercedes tomorrow I have a recording thing with HeroTV,but that you're more than welcome so I can teach you if you don't mind cameras stalking us around from time to time."Yuri said as they got off on one of the top floors. Yuri walked into the bathroom to take a shower and wash the makeup off. "I really don't mind teaching you. I want to see what you can do and how I can help. The recording starts tomorrow around 10,so if you get here earlier I can teach you in private until the crew gets here."Yuri said as he took off his wig and stared at the mirror. "Whatever makes you comfortable is good for me though. You can come too,KuroNeko."Yuri said with a smile. He did enjoy the company of the other heroes,they were the only people he could truly call friends. 

 

"Mm'kay, I don't mind cameras. Is that okay with you Freezer?" Rin asked the boy.

She felt a little stupid knowing they were most likely in hero tower while she is just down here....in her little house.

"That means I will have to go in costume...." Rin begun.

"You will pay for this, Hatter. I don't like doing stuff in costume unless it is for the show." She sighed.

She always gets mad over the simplest of things, which could get annoying for other people.

"I will be happy to help you however, FreezerBurn." She said with a smile.

"Thanks Neko!" He smiled. He didn't care much for cameras either. He then decided to wear the wig and contacts for anonymity... "Alright... See you guys soon!"

 

(What time is it now? I mean, is it morning? Or night?)

Sam, in human form, leaned back on the coach in her apparent as she watched the account of the murder on the news. She had been questioned by the police and manged to point them in the right direction for them to find a bullet casing from the killer's gun. They had been suspious, but she knew how they worked so managed to get out of there with nothing more then a warning to stay out of trouble and to stay in town. Not that she had any intention in leaving. This was her town and she didn't like murders in her town.

"Especially ones that happen not even a block from me." She thought bitterly.

If she had just been faster...

"I'd love to." Alex replied simply. He secured his mask over his eyes, and drew his hood over his head. "Not on duty at the moment, so I might as well." Alex said, though he was now officially Nightwing with the hood and mask. He leaped back through the window he had climbed through on his way in, and clicked a button on his wrist bracer, summoning his motorcycle. It positioned it self under him, and Nightwing landed, grabbing hold of the handlebars. He revved the engine, and drove over to the entrance o the bank. Nightwing parked in front, and waited for Gauss to catch up.

Darkness. And water. Lots and lots of water. Then came the whirlpool. That whirlpool, once again, that would inevitably swallow him up. Twirling, sinking...

 

Slowly Saidarin began to awaken, and sat up. "Where.... am I?"

 

He patted the surface he was sitting on. A soft bed.

 

Where am I? The last thing I remember was..... that boy. And a helicoper...

 

Looking around, Saidarin noticed nothing of familiar significance. No windows, though the room was nicely furnished. Then, he heard a voice.

Gauss levitated down next to Nightwing, using metal disc under his feet.

"Always in a hurry, aren't we?" He said as he strode purposefully to the bank, his metal disc swirling and flowing onto his back, becoming the back piece of his armor.

"While this robbery went on, there was a massive transfer from Albright Co., a local front for an international crime lord." Gauss explained, his tone now all business. "My sources confirm that this was not authorized by anybody in Albright or anyone higher up. So, it appears the robbery we saw on the news was a front for something bigger."

(I think its day but it could be changed to night)

 

Yuri smiled as he threw the towel over his shoulder.

 

“That’s great! Thanks guys,I really worried that I would end up doing that whole thing alone…”Yuri muttered. Even if his other personality was the one in charge when they were in costume and fighting crime,they shared the same body,therefor,felt the same feelings and emotions. “I will see you all tomorrow then…bye.”Yuri said as he hanged up the phone. He was happy,he liked to interact with the other heroes more than being a hero himself. He set the phone down and quickly took a shower,removing any dirt or left  over makeup. Once he was squeaky clean he dried up and got dressed in his usual outdoors attire. A white t-shirt with black dragons on it and a black and red hoodie,jeans and some sneakers as he shook the water out of his hair. He walked out into the GYM area where Ms.Mercedes was waiting for her.

 

“There you are Yuri. You better get enough sleep for tomorrow.”Ms.Mercedes said. Yuri gave a slight smile.

 

“Of course madam,I will head home and quickly sleep. Fighting crime has left me a bit tired and all that.”Yuri said. The sarcasm was strong in this one. Ms.Mercedes rolled her eyes as she got her hands on her hips.

 

“Just be sure to get here in time. We don’t want to keep the crew waiting for your big debut of the documentary.”Ms.Mercedes said. Yuri gave a small bow,usually how Mad Hatter would do after completing an act.

 

“Yes mam.”Yuri said as he walked away. As he reached the stairs his smile turned into a tired frown. He never liked all of this type of attention. He was beyond grateful that she had found him,brought him over,gave him a home and gave him everything a child could ask for. In that he felt that this was a way to repay such debt. But at the same time he felt that maybe it was too much? Maybe,just maybe.

After a long walk Yuri finally reached home. Ms.Mercedes had set him up in a nice apartment complex on the Gold Layer. Yuri entered the elevator only to be taken to the top floor,the penthouse,as also given to him by Ms.Mercedes. As the doors opened the gleam of the marble countertops and the luxurious furniture almost blinded Yuri,who had been walking in the dark for a while. It was already furnished by the time he had moved in. But it made him feel uncomfortable and scared,afraid that he might accidentally break something really expensive,and everything there looked expensive. He threw his bag on the side of the sofa and sat down,clapping his hands as the lights went out,the only light now in his room being the lights of the city gleaming from his balcony and window views.

 

“I’m glad I have friends.”Yuri muttered to himself. Was Ms.Mercedes a friend? Maybe,no,more like a boss,an adoptive mother,and so on. But the other heroes,being closer to his age and all being in the same job,did feel like friends to him. It made this little awkward boy happy. He stood up and walked over to the balcony,staring out at the city skyline. It was a beautiful sight. He sat on the edge of the rail and closed his eyes as he whistled to a tune.

NEXT power: Blood manipulation (Similar to like in "Deadman Wonderland")

 

Bio: All that is known is that his hatred for NEXT began when he found out he was one at the age of 14. The story varies but it always goes back to the tale that he and his friend were exploring some buildings when they shouldn't have and one of them gave out,collapsing on them. Azure managed to escape but his best friend was caught between the pieces of metal and concrete. He couldn't lift the pieces himself so he promised his friend he would run to get someone as soon as possible. He ran back into the city and tried to get the attention of one of the police men,who ignored him and simply shooed him away due to them paying attention to the heroes and their acts. By the time he did get someone to listen to him and follow the rest of the building had collapsed on his friend,killing him. After that he went into a deep depression and developed a sick hatred towards the heroes,or any NEXT in general,beiliving that if NEXT never existed that the world would be a much more tranquil place,and his friend would've been saved in time. He discovered his next powers when he tried to commit suicide by slitting his wrist with a razor blade. Instead of bleeding out the blood started to move upwards and towards any direction he would ordered it to go to. With his newly found curse he deviced a master plan: he would bring back the human race to its former glory by eliminating all of the NEXT from this world,starting with the heroes and NEXT of Sternbuild City.  

 

Curious facts?: He had developed a crush on his friend ever since the age of 10. After his death most of his depression came from a broken heart,a hollow and hurtful feeling which lingers to this day.

Nightwing grinned very slightly at Gauss' remark. His speed was a matter of pride for the young hero. He listened to his friend's briefing of why they were here. Nightwing thought about it for a moment. 'So someone used the bank robbery as a distraction to deal a blow to Albright... but if we can trace the account, then could that be a lead..' The hero voiced his thoughts to Gauss. "Would it be possible to track the perpetrator through the transfer? Or would we have to go through Albright's database to try and find a lead there?" Nightwing said. Gauss always seemed such a detective, not going after the flashy crimes like the other heroes. Alex had been attempting to use the same logic skills himself, but to nearly as much ease.

Gauss seated himself as a computer terminal, pushing the bank manager out of the way.

"Hey!" The manager exclaimed, but a cold stare from the hero silenced him and caused him to retreat.

"Who ever did this was smart enough to corrupt the memory of the transaction, making the destination for the transfer ambiguous, at best." Gauss finally answered, as he finished a quick examination the bank's mainframe.

He stood up and looked around the room.

"Can't even tell what terminal it was. My hat is off to the mastermind behind this."

He glanced over to Nightwing.

"Find anything?"

Nightwing glanced back to Gauss. He had scanning the whole bank for evidence of any kind, but to no avail. "No forensic evidence anywhere I'm afraid to say. We're going to have to pick up on an intel lead if we want to find the perp. I'd suggest looking into Albright itself,  but I don't know how open they are to visitors." Nightwing said, reporting. He continued wandering around the bank, hoping to a clue of any sort. Unfortunately, even his bracer scanner hadn't identified any fingerprints or DNA about the area.
