Kitase talking to Eurogamer said on the prospect of Square Enix doing an HD remake of FFVII:

"I can honestly tell you I would love to do that," he replied. "If you simply ask me if I personally would like to do that, yes I would. Definitely. There's no lie about it. But you must believe me when I say it would take a lot to happen."

"Even if I casually say I would like to do that, because it would be a huge project I would have to motivate myself to the level that I really am prepared to take on this huge responsibility," he said."I don't know if those three things will happen simultaneously. It has to tick lots of very big boxes. I won't rule out the possibility, but it would take a lot to make it happen."

"But should I ever take it on, it would have to be the biggest project I've done. My life work. So I would have to be as highly motivated as that to end up with something I'm very happy with. It's a huge thing for me."

Elsewhere in the article, Kitase stated that the reason as to why FFX was remastered was so that his son could play the games... Cute :P

"My son, he's at the age where he was too young to have played the original games when they released," Kitase explained. "My son only knows Tidus and Yuna through the Dissidia experience, not from the original titles. Obviously I wanted him to play one of my creations, so I had to make it available for PS3 and Vita users. That's the reason."

Ummm. For one you don't do a "HD remake". And secondly this is about a full remake.

And VII is already in HD....

yes a full remake would be amazing

But not on PS3.Let's hope for his son to wish for FFVII so we could get a remake xD

They aren't going to release it on PlayStation 3. And they could easily port the PC version to PlayStation 4.

Oh, so the remake would be in SD?It's not like I misused the terms remastered or remake, only adding the prefix HD. You're just splitting hairs.

In the interview he himself says FFVII HD Remake, and also says FFXII HD Remake.

Yeah, people in journalism have a hard time in using the terms correctly. FFX and X-2 should never be referred to as remakes (as they are remasters) and same with FFXII. Putting HD in front of remake/remaster is a good idea as Square Enix have been known to do things like this:

If they made this into a game it would be a remake as well, but a 16-bit remake. I don't understand why Sora96 has a problem with using the term "HD remake" when it's just clarifying what we're talking about... Usually he wants people to be specific :/

No one does a "HD remake".

Kitase didn't write the interview. The writer did.

I'm in the online form of "journalism" and I've never had an issue.

Yeah, I think it's mainly older people who have an issue. Both IGN and Eurogamer have occasionally referred to FFX/X-2 HD as a remake, not a remaster.

Also *an HD remake. As someone who tries to spell and type everything 100% correctly, you still have a way to go ;)

I write fine. Just look at my news posts.

I'll let you have this one mistake.

Anyway, on topic, what would you call a remake for the 3DS? Simply a remake, or would you call it an SD remake, in order to be unambiguous? If they remade FF7 for 3DS people would complain that it's still not HD, so the term "HD remake" is acceptable in this case.

It would be an HD remake of the original game. That's like not calling the KH collections HD because they're already playable at 4K on PC. I see your point, but calling it an HD remake is still acceptable.

That's just upscaling. Hardly. The PC version of VII is native HD.
