RPG Site: I can see Nomura-san's crew need the room back for their next interview, so I'm going to wrap up by betraying my inner fan and ask a more specific talent question - Hiroyuki Ito, the creator of ATB, the director of FF9 - my favourite, which of course you produced - and FF12... Is he still at the company - and is he working on anything that we already know about?

Hashimoto: [laughs] You're a very unique journalist, asking about Ito-san! Yeah. He's still at Square Enix. He's been planning and doing some proposals for a new project at the moment, so... Really, he's the kind of guy that wants to challenge new things all the time, so, yeah. At the moment, he's doing... [laughs] He's putting some ideas together.

RPG Site: I'm very interested to see what he does next. For RPG gameplay systems I really do feel he's one of the best there is; one of your strongest assets.

Hashimoto: Like you say, he's very talented and very involved. He's very, very in-depth... he likes the depth of the gameplay systems side of things. He really loves to go really deep on mechanics and things, and that takes time. I'm very excited to see his ideas soon!

Thanks to RPG Site.

Battle director for Dissidia 012, Takeo Kujiraoka, was unable to speak to Ito directly due to Ito working on another project.

Thanks to FINAL FANTASY Wikia.

Hiroyuki Ito directed FINAL FANTASY IX and FINAL FANTASY XII but has since been quiet. Could he be directing FINAL FANTASY XVI? Only time will tell.

He also co-directed VI and created the ATB battle system but sure let's just go with him directing IX and XII.

Personally, I hope he's creating XVI he really hasn't been given his time to shine at Square since the release of XII. I think he could truly create something unique should XVI be made available on PS4/Xbone. But first things first, we need XV to come out before we can even begin to talk about XVI.

Edit: I missed the part about the ATB.

The interview above mentioned the ATB and the Wikia page says the rest. And I was referring to his more recent major projects.

Kinda early to be worrying about that, but I assume he would be a better director than any of the recent FF directors...

Not really worrying, just a theory given how quiet he's been.

There's only been one director for the major games since he directed XII and this director helped make some of the greatest and highest selling FINAL FANTASY games.

Most people didn't like the XIII saga...the only good recent FF games have been spin-offs

I personally liked XIII but the majority didn't.

I would love it if were true! I'm not sure when XV will come out, but I hope XVI comes out soon after (and by soon, I mean like 2-ish years).Given how long it takes to make AAA games, I hope they're already working on XVI and have XVII on the drawing board.Just curious, what is this past team doing now? The team that worked on all 3 XIII games is the same team correct? Shouldn't they be working on something right now?

I hope Motomu Toriyama's team is working on X-3 now, it's the only team that can do it.
