Considering that he created three underrated masterpieces:Blue Dragon, the Lost Odyssey and the Last Story after his departure

How do you think Sakaguchi now feels about Final Fantasy? The series he created, his baby that he once putted his heart and soul on it since 1987 up to 2001?

I think so,but it's still hurts to see your creation and masterpiece becoming a joke in the industry after it was held as the ultimate king of RPGs

Though I didn't asked Sakaguchi personally, but I think he might've felt like what Keiji Inafune feels about Megaman now but in a different way

News blogs reported an exchange on Twitter made between him and Takashi Tokita, where he told Tokita and the other employees to "stop rehashing FINAL FANTASY". Tokita responded with "We're planning to!". From 2010. He left in 2003 following the merger. He's not going back.

Boy was he so right about it

Play his games then. Isn't he still making games?

He is, he's head of Mistwalker after all. Their last major game was The Last Story on the Wii, which was an absolutely amazing game.

Those game were hardly underrated. They probably didn't sell as well as other big RPGs but they certainly had some decent reviews.

Given that Final Fantasy XII is the last FF game he has any mention on I reckon he has moved on at this point. Of course he must have some sort of frustration with the current state of the series he helped create and that is understandable if he does (Inafune comes to mind with the whole Megaman situation too).

Personally I think Sakaguchi is better off where he is at Mistwalker, he has no reason to go back to Square Enix.

When I mean underrated,I mean it didn't sell well because it didn't have a popular brand name on it.They're really really amazing it just people didn't give them the chance they deserve because they didn't have the name final fantasy on the cover.

As for Sakaguchi,he did a tweet in 2010 to one of his fellow workers that still works in Square and told them "Stop rehashing Final Fantasy"

Ah right, I never got a chance to play Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey as I never owned a 360 so I couldn't say if they were actually any good. The Last Story sold pretty good in America though didn't it? I think I remember Xseed saying it was doing really well any ways.

Hmm, 2010 would have been when XIII was out right? He does have a point though and at the risk of starting a whole XIII argument I think I'll say no more.

Not only he has a point, but the dude also kinda knew what they were going with XIII and I'm sure he still has one of his old friends who still work at Square Enix to tell him what's going on there.

Yes The Last Story did really well, but it immediately got overshadowed by other Final Fantasy releases around the same time, and the sales didn't reach Sakaguchi's expectations

Ah cool, that makes sense.

Is it weird that I wouldn't even compare The Last Story to Final Fantasy in the first place? I remember at the time Xenoblade and The Last Story were the two big RPGs on the Wii that everyone was pretty hyped about and they often got compared. Shame about the sales though, I really enjoyed the experience Sakaguchi gave us with that game. Hopefully we see another great RPG from him and his team in the not so distant future.

Well,at least Xenoblade sold well enough to get a sequel, heck most critics and fans alike consider it the best JRPG of the past console generations
