I know that people are trying, but we aren't getting anywhere fast.

We haven't been doing a lot of things well. Hell, women are still being murdered simply for being women. Same sex marriage isn't legal nationally. This is literally the least productive senate in American history (although I believe one side is more at fault than the other, both parties can be blamed for this). We're doing a terrible job of promoting equality (Afghanistan has a higher percentage of women in government than we do), but I think there's still hope. As messed up as things are, we're slowly getting better. VERY slowly, but at least we're making progress. Public opinion usually changes slowly. So while our lives and probably still the lives of our grandchildren will be rife with inequality, we will keep improving. Maybe in 100 years children will be as appalled about the rampant racism, sexism, and homophobia as we were learning about slavery.
