Phillips Wins Patent Dispute With Nintendo UK

Featured Replies

God I hate Philps so much right now.

Btw,you should put UK in the title as Philps only won their patent there and not yet in other countries

Patent trolls, patent trolls everywhere.

You're forgetting that Phillips is a large company, unlike most patent trolls that go after Nintendo. Not to mention that the patent trolls rarely win.

I really hope that the penalty won't be too much cuz I'm soo pissed off right now

I'm sure that Phillips bribed some people to get their bullshit patent through cuz there is no other way

So this guy wants patents for a console that's already 5 years old and considered last-gen. I don't see the logic. :/

This is bullshit and doesn't make any sense the Wii is last gen....

This whole thing's been going since 2011, apparently. They're targeting Wii U now, too. Still, the Wii doesn't even fit those patents. If anything, Kinect and PS Move are what they should go after (Not saying they SHOULD, but those are technically a lot more similar to what the patents described).

Sooooo....what happens now?

Nintendo's appealing to court to try and prove that they didn't do anything wrong. If they lose the dispute, they'll have to pay a lot of money to Phillips, and from what I understand, possibly ban sales of Wii and Wii U in the US. I have NO clue what the point of that would be for Phillips, aside from them just trying to screw Nintendo over for the heck of it.

Whelp. Might as well discontinue Wii this year then. Not much purpose left for it now anyway.

Philips is a much larger company than Nintendo nowadays too. They are literally doing this with absolutely no necessary cause.
