Did you play the Japanese version or use a fan-translation?

I've played it on DS and thought about buying it on Steam but I'm not paying the price they're asking for it. I don't really prefer to play it on any platform because at the end of the day it's only Final Fantasy III. I hardly play it every day as it is, heck I don't even own a copy of it any more.
