Something I really want the final fantasy franchise to do

Posted

I've been playing Shin Megami Tensei IV and needless to say I'm in love with it

But the one thing about the game that intrigued me the most is the fact that the decisions you make will change your alignment between the Law Route,Chaos Route or neutral route

This really impressed me as it allows you to see the points of view from both sides and it isn't just another cliche (Good Vs Evil) battle cuz each side has their own legit reasons for doing what they're doing but it's the effect of their actions on the world and how the game presented the weight of your decision really well makes you unsure which side you should go with or side with neither and go your own way....which is really hard to do in SMT IV btw.

So that one unique mechanic in Shin Megami Tensei IV made me think.....shouldn't Final Fantasy attempt something like this even for one game?

I want one final fantasy game(main or spin-off) to implement this where you have a story with both conflicting sides that aren't necessarily good or evil but it's up to you and your decisions and beliefs to shape the future of the game's world depending on what you're thinking when you go through the story

They can make the protagonist either a silent one like in FF1 and the SMT games or make him a full fledged character with conflicted beliefs

the Final fantasy series needs to evolve and try something that it didn't try before in terms of story-telling and I really really want it to try alignment mechanic from Shin Megami Tensei even if it's in a spin-off so they can see if it can work or not.I know my words won't reach Square Enix even if I posted this in their own forums but at least I wanna voice one of my wishes for the series

I can see a main character in 3 different cutscenes talking about what he thinks about which path he's going down. :P

Well if you've played any Shin Megami Tensei game you'll know exactly what I mean

I think Bravely Default could attempt what you're talking about. Being handheld and less graphically intense it could pull off something like that. And in the first game you start to sympathize with the antagonists so it's similar to what you're talking about (you just don't have many choices).

Like I've said before they can attempt it with a spin-off to see if it's gonna succeed or not and I want it to have as much choices as in a shin megami tensei game if possible

Again if you guys played any SMT game you'll know what I mean

Okay, maybe I'll buy SMTIV for my 3DS to see what you're talking about :P

Is the gameplay in SMIV similar to Etrian Odyssey? I know they're developed by the same company but I haven't played any SMT games yet. Or is it more similar to Persona (no map drawing)?

It's kinda a mix between the two but it's easy to get into in terms of learning gameplay mechanics so don't worry....though the game is hard as hell sometimes so be careful cuz I died a lot in the game

Note:Shin Megami Tensei is actually the main series while Persona is a spin-off

Shin Megami Tensei IV was the first Atlus game I've actually played by myself and it turned me into an Atlus fan ^_^

So it would be Final Fantasy XVI?

That or a spin-off

Most likely spin-off so they can see it they can pull it off right or not.

Hmm I wouldn't mind something like that...though I've never played Shin Megami Tensei
