If it's executed correctly, then yes. The story would make for a great movie.

I can only guess that you mean that it would be nice if there was a Grand Theft Auto Movie . Yeah , there's already been one . It described the Grand Theft Auto I storyline .

I always wanted a movie where the protagonist has to go around to do absolutely nothing for 3/4 hours

I'm not a GTA fan to begin with, but I wanted to point out that having a movie could be awful for them. There's no guarantee that a large percentage of the game's fans will go see the movie, so if the movie flops, it'll look bad for the series and could hurt sales. 

I don't care for the game series so I doubt I'd watch a movie from it.  My sister and mother liked GTA series but neither even finished the storyline so I doubt they'd care about a movie from it.

I never could get into the games, so it wouldn't really matter to me.
